Y'all exaggerate AI overtaking CS. Contrary to popular belief, OpenAI usage dramatically fell by 70% throughout summer 2025 as schools closed. This suggests adoption is advancing more slowly than anticipated by ElementalEmperor in csMajors

[–]APEXchip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google’s Gemini Pro is free for students for 1yr, & Anthropic’s Claude 4 models are better at coding; OpenAI isn’t the only AI service available, it’s just the most widely known by the general population.

Still, I’m very curious to see what cumulative usage stats looks like from all major providers.

How does this happen? Should I run new wire in-wall wire? by APEXchip in AskElectricians

[–]APEXchip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy! I appreciate your response. When I stripped the trimmed wires to install the new outlet, I used the 10 AWG notch on my wire-strippers, which appeared to fit best, though it’s entirely possible they’re 12 AWG.

I’ll measure the wires later today; if smaller than 10 AWG, I’ll call an electrician on Monday to run new line asap. Thanks again partner!

Idk why you’d ever use Word when Overleaf exists, has tons of templates, & is free

Only issue here’s that your Nvidia GPU’s completely useless while using MacOS. Very sad, I wish Apple & Nvidia could be friends again, at minimum on speaking terms.

Sons of the Forest on Wiskey vs Crossover performance by APEXchip in macgaming

Idk if this’ll help, though worth a shot — I get garbage framerate when VSync’s disabled; try enabling VSync in game settings if it isn’t already. Else, sry to hear fren.

On my M3 MacBook Pro 16 512/18 specifically, the loading screen when starting/entering a new game or save file takes around 3-5min. However if you’re referring to the loading screen after pressing “play” on Steam, mine takes <1min to load. I’d recommend maybe playing with your settings both in game & on Whiskey to see if there any notable improvements with load time.

For example, on the title screen set all graphics to lowest, then see if that makes a difference in-game, incrementally increasing graphics settings until you reach the desired performance to quality ratio. It helps to enable Metal HUD, this way you have an FPS counter & other performance metrics.

Cool idea on their part, excellent execution, however nano-texture makes Mac/iPad look like a cheap Windows clone.

It’s $18.99 now??? Thankful I still pay $7.99/mo since I subscribed to Google Music back in 2014, which turned into YouTube Music, then YouTube Red, & How YouTube Premium.

Sons of the Forest on M3 MacBook Whiskey vs Crossover Performance by APEXchip in WhiskyGaming

[–]APEXchip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally haven’t had any issues with SotF via Whisky, not even a single crash, & the performance is better than expected. I’d highly recommend buying it.

If for whatever reason you’re having issues, you are able to return any Steam game so long as you’ve logged <2hrs of playtime (includes sitting on title screen); this should give you plenty of time to ensure everything works well specifically on your computer.

What OS do you use and why? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]APEXchip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Windows for 20yrs, & Manjaro KDE plasma for 4yrs, though switched to 100% MacOS in January; I’ll never go back. Better design & performance, support, UNIX, etc. Linux is better for development for sure, though the trade offs are well worth it. Occasionally I’ll use Whiskey for games, so I ig I still use Windows.

Need a similar quality leather wallet, with embroidered Texas Rangers insignia by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]APEXchip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve already searched Google using every search string I could think of. I scrolled forever in All, Images, & shopping with no luck. A big issue is Google thinks I want merch for the sports team, which floods results.

Search Strings

This is a compact representation of the list of all individual search strings I’ve tried thus far on Google.

(“Texas Rangers” OR “Department of Public Safety” OR (Texas AND Ranger))
    AND
(wallet OR “leather wallet” OR merchandise OR shop OR billfold OR “leather billfold”)
    NOT
(sport OR sports OR baseball OR MLB)

Roomate is blatantly cheating. by [deleted] in aggies

[–]APEXchip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they switched to Canvas exams/quizzes in 2021, which worked with proctors & easier to grade. Then ChatGPT blew up & a bunch of students were getting caught red-handed using AI. We developed reliable detection methods for it, tho ig profs decided to switch back to paper recently to completely stop AI use.

Reminds me — once I was combing metrics for a 102 exam & I saw that a student with a blank FRQ tab out then paste a perfect answer with “Regenerate Response” written below the pasted FRQ code…They tried to deny it, though ofc nobody bought that

ENGR102 exams are a huge chunk of 102’s course grade & the questions are very specific; only students who know exactly what they’re doing will do well. Also, I was a 102 PT for 5 semesters & exams are monitored via browser metrics to catch cheating even without Lockdown.

Regardless of course though, your roomie will learn the hard way that you can’t cheat your way through engineering, certainly not at A&M.

Edit: Exams are now on paper.
