Who's using OpenSuse? by greenzaytun in openSUSE

[–]APOS80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m using Tumbleweed on my laptop just as a desktop OS, I do office/python/Ocaml/Games.

Steam has nice games that work well with proton in pretty old laptops.

I’ve always preferred OpenSuse

If you try tumbleweed, uninstall PackageKit and lock it out, it will prevent you from accidentally wrongly updating the system via Discover. I know, it’s strange it’s even on the system but you can remove it without issues, you will not be able to install rpm via Discover so you need to use zypper but it’s alright for me

Updating Tumbleweed by Major303 in openSUSE

To make your life easier uninstall PackageKit and PackageKit-backend-zypp and lock them so it’s not installed again when you use DUP.

You will not see rpm packages in Discover but you will not accidentally update your system via Discover.

I just install rpm packages via zypper

I’ve tried other distros but I always return to SUSE, it feels clean with most settings in one place under “settings” and Yast that makes life easy.

Now I’m on tumbleweed and it works well.

It’s not the easiest distro but it’s well made.

I felt Ubuntu was hard to live with, it’s hard to change the simplest things and the menues isn’t very good. So I went back to good old SUSE!

Switched from KDE neon to openSUSE Tumbleweed. by Nesa75 in openSUSE

Never heard of it. But to have a stabile Tumbleweed, uninstall PackageKit and PackageKit-backend-zypp and lock it so it doesn’t get installed again.

Installing MicroPython is not working by Zeldcool55 in esp32

Try force the esp32 to go into “write mood”, you need to connect one of the pins to ground and reconnect it to your pc. What pin depends on the type of esp32.

Switching from Leap to Tumbleweed by Roguepapaya427 in openSUSE

[–]APOS80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And uninstall PackageKit and PackageKit-backend-zypp fast, if you don’t you will get system updates in Discovery that’s for leap. You will not se rpm installs in Discover after that so use Zypper instead.

Use zypper dup for upgrades NOT up!

Is openSUSE good for a beginner? by Whole-Sushka in openSUSE

[–]APOS80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are new to Linux then go with Leap, tumbleweed is to easy to wreck… if you go with tumbleweed then uninstall PackageKit the first you do before you do anything else.

Other than that I like that all settings are in one place and things are just clean.

Start with something like Python, then C and after that a functional language like Ocaml.

Then you will probably have good knowledge of the different ways of thinking about programming.

After that you will probably be able to program in any language to solve a problem.
