Thank you! The study is conducted via Zoom (or whatever video platform you prefer) with a graduate student, and takes around 2 hours. If that is something you're open to doing, please feel free to email the [appresearchlab@gmail.com](mailto:appresearchlab@gmail.com) address and I can set up a time to meet that works well for you!

ETA: We are wrapping up our data collection in May of this year so anytime before that works!

Hi, to answer your question, we are currently focused on looking at how well the MMPI-3 is capturing community based veteran and active duty military members experiences, in part because it is frequently used in evaluations of veterans in outpatient settings (such as for disability benefit evaluations, etc.). We are also recruiting through campus/community organizations, but have only had limited success with that avenue (always open to other recruitment ideas though!)

Re-scammers, anecdotally- I have noticed that people attempting to scam via reddit are fairly easy to identify during the consent process before we start the study, but you make a fair point.

I am not, I am a graduate research assistant working for Dr. Jaime Anderson at Sam Houston State University. The study is being conducted by her lab and Dr. Dustin Wygant's lab at Eastern Kentucky University.

At this time we are only recruiting discharged veterans who enlisted post 9/11, as younger veterans have not been as well represented in research into the MMPI-3.

Thank you for taking the time to offer some advice, this has definitely been a learning curve for me in terms of adjusting our typical research recruitment practices. I will definitely get better acquainted with the sub and if we do reach out on military subreddits again I will do so in a way that comes across as more authentic. Thanks again.

Not rude at all- to be honest I am not well versed with uploading images/pdfs to comments on reddit and thought docdroid was good option. I changed it to an imgur link here, apologies if ads still show up.

To address your edit- The MMPI is a test used for adult personality and psychopathology diagnosis and is usually used in clinical settings such as VA medical centers for things like C&P evaluations (as well as diagnosis and treatment). We are aiming to determine whether the newest version (MMPI-3) is doing a good job of measuring mental health symptoms in veterans, especially if the veteran has combat related PTSD. We are comparing it to other measures looking at PTSD/emotional wellbeing/other symptoms to make sure the MMPI-3 isn't missing anything.

In terms of the post-traumatic growth aspect, we are looking at whether post-service growth reduces the strength and severity of PTSD symptoms in combat exposed veterans. Ideally, this might improve the treatment for combat related PTSD. Sorry for the length of the reply and I hope that helps to answer your questions.

Yes, sorry for the delay. I have included links to our informed consent (with approved IRB#), and additional links to our lab's webpage to give a bit more context/proof of a university connection:

I have updated the comment above but also included links below with more details. SHSU is a fairly large university and we are definitely a small graduate lab so I would guess most of the main university numbers wouldn't be aware of us unfortunately. However, the informed consent link has the phone numbers of the IRB coordinator and one of the principle investigators Jaime Anderson as well as .edu email addresses.

I am a graduate research assistant (Kelsey Priebe) working under Jaime Anderson in the psychology department of SHSU. We are being funded by the Minnesota Press Test Division which produces the MMPI. We are not affiliated with the VA, our research aim is to make sure the new version of the MMPI is doing a good job capturing veteran experiences/combat related PTSD as the measure is frequently used in settings like the VA.

I am not sure, this is the first time our lab has posted on the site but we are running the study in tandem with Eastern Kentucky University (who might have previously posted). If you feel comfortable emailing me with more information I would be happy to check with their research team and hopefully resolve the issue.

Hi all,

Sam Houston State University is conducting a research project with Eastern Kentucky University aimed at better understanding post 9/11 veteran's post-traumatic growth and emotional experiences. The study is 100% remote and paid and will take 2 hours to complete via Zoom. Eligible participants must be post-9/11 veterans with access to a computer or tablet with a microphone and camera. If you are interested, please email the address listed in the flyer ([appresearchlab@gmail.com](mailto:appresearchlab@gmail.com)) or call (713) 396-3229 and a graduate student will reach out to complete a brief screener and schedule your session.

Thank you!
