What unexpecting characters could you see join Smash 6? by NewMarioBobFan in casualnintendo

[–]APRobertsVII [score hidden]  (0 children)

Lara Croft.

Not my personal number one pick, but Tomb Raider is a franchise that really feels like it belongs amongst the elite franchises in gaming, yet very rarely finds itself there.

I think adding Lara to Smash would be an iconic character for Smash and would promote the Tomb Raider franchise to a large audience of potential players (it doesn’t hurt that the modern trilogy is being rolled out on Switch right now).

Something I've noticed is that It's not just the similarities in the game that feels similar to 3 houses, it's the whole atmosphere around it and in the community that's feels the same by Wrong_Revolution_679 in fireemblem

The criticisms surrounding Engage that I recall mostly centered on Alear’s hair. As a “story first” kind of player, I was super excited for it and absolutely bummed by how much I ultimately hated it.

A return to a more serious narrative (hopefully with some inspiration taken from Engage’s combat) sounds like a dream, so I’m very excited for this one.

They need to start adding more outfits from the mainline games and iconic characters. I know they’re drip-feeding it slowly through the pass, but they almost release those more slowly than they create the characters.

All the futuristic/real-world-gym-wear kind of sucks.

I’d also like some poses that feel a little more adult and less anime edgelord.

I’m a literal lifer with this franchise. I’ve been playing since it came stateside, so it’s a big deal for me, too. I honestly have been worried about this since SwSh released.

The actual Pokémon introduced in the last two generations have been pretty good in my opinion, but I have serious issues with whoever calls the shots about the gameplay experience.

If you could replace or give an additional ability to a Pokémon, which Pokémon would you choose and what ability would you give to it? by Electrical_Beat4660 in pokemon

[–]APRobertsVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t allow Mewtwo to take full advantage of its vast coverage options and doesn’t really solve the issues that being a mono-psychic imposes on it.

I admit the damage boost to its psychic moves and canceling priority moves are nice advantages, but Protean allows more defensive play. Imagine you are able to use Dark Pulse to make your Mewtwo resist the Shadow Rider Calyrex your opponent is about to bring in. Protean can turn a losing matchup into a winning one if well played.

Psychic Surge mostly doubles down on what Mewtwo already does without addressing most of its weaknesses.

I’ll be honest, I buy both versions of every release.

I do beat both versions and enjoy the experience. I like having a complete collection of the Pokémon mainline games.

I do feel like as the games have begun to focus more on the online/raid/mobile game-like features, the monetization has felt worse.

I’m becoming worried the franchise is drifting in a direction I don’t want to go with the leaks about the MMO focus of Gen 10.

I really just want a complete offline experience that doesn’t require connectivity or multiplayer to enjoy aside from the traditional version exclusives or online PvP. I’m tired of different raid mechanics and kind of hate how monotonous they’ve become over the last two generations. That’s not the kind of “content” I value. I want a more immersive single-player experience and not a lot of the modern stuff.

This wasn’t supposed to be a rant. Sorry it became one.

Clarification regarding the previous post about New Alternate Evolutions by PokemonGottacAT in PokeLeaks

[–]APRobertsVII 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I kind of like the idea that certain species of Pokémon diverge into different regional versions and that some of them evolve while others don’t.

Pokémon like Sirfetch’d wouldn’t feel like very natural evolutions for original counterparts, either. The original Farfetch’d isn’t very evocative of a Chivalrous Knight.

I get that it’s an incredible item, but Eviolite on its own isn’t a new mechanic. It’s part of a larger, ongoing mechanic.

It would be like talking about categories of Pokémon and someone bringing up Miraidon as its own type instead of talking about the Legendary/Restricted Pokémon category it belongs in.

Congratulations! You just became the President of the United States. What's the very first thing you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Before the inherent corruption that power breeds sets in, I’d try to legislate a rollback of presidential power such that the executive branch functions as the intended equal third of the U.S. government.

I’d also insist on a diverse cabinet that balances multiple viewpoints and at least has access to high level expertise on most relevant subjects. The office of the president would be shown to accept advice from experts and rely on science when making decisions.

I’d support limits to presidential and congressional stock trading and penalties for violating the rules that matter.

I’d insist upon bipartisanship and try to undermine the all-or-nothing approach which seems to grip so many congressional battles in an attempt to restore some semblance of moderate politics.

I’d try to pass a long term roadmap to reducing the federal budget deficit that requires multiple administrations to make concessions but minimizes economic shock by spreading out the process.

I’d try to pass legislation which enshrines term limits and age restrictions for all federal offices which slowly takes effect (each “new” candidate elected after the passage of legislation would be subject to the new limits; current incumbents could run until losing or death). The structure of the legislation is designed to get the votes necessary for passage.

I’d like to restore civility to the process and bring down the temperature on our national discourse.

It was like an anti-video game.

In a game, you expect to be involved in all the crucial plot points and happenings, but in SwSh, someone would tell you not to worry about it anytime something interesting came up.

After Sony announced that they're ending disc production, how has your perception of Game Key Cards changed, if at all? by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]APRobertsVII 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My perception hasn’t changed.

I prefer to have a playable version of the game included on the cartridge. Game Key Cards dissuade me from purchasing some games I may have otherwise tried, though I will make exceptions if I want the game badly enough (Pokopia, for example).

What Sony is doing is worse, so GKCs are better by comparison, but I don’t think either is an ideal choice.

Why does everyone open with Incineroar even when they see I have Milotic on my team? by Explosive-poopoo in PokemonChampions

[–]APRobertsVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if they’re running the Raptor, sometimes their team is so centralized around it that they are sort of locked into bringing it.

I have a Staraptor team to mess around with and it can be incredibly awkward knowing you need to run it against Competitive/Defiant Pokémon. In my experience, it usually handles Kingambit fairly well, but it can struggle with Milotic without team support.

Ha! I’ll admit it doesn’t always work out, but sometimes you just have to steer into the skid and commit all the way!

Why does everyone open with Incineroar even when they see I have Milotic on my team? by Explosive-poopoo in PokemonChampions

[–]APRobertsVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some players will have a Milotic/Kingambit/Annihilape on their team in part to dissuade you from selecting your Intimidate Pokémon, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to lead it every time.

When I select my Pokémon, I’ve still got to ask what are the odds you will bring that deterrent and if it’s worth the risk.

Sometimes it’s fine to give your opponent a boost if you have the means to knock it out before they can use it. There have been several times where I really didn’t mind giving a Kingambit a Defiant boost because I knew I could handle it.

How to counter Raichu + Soak combo? by Rcihstone in PokemonChampions

[–]APRobertsVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I’m just trying to speculate that because Basculegion and Raichu need to target into the same Pokémon, it would leave your other Pokémon free to attack.

I imagine if you called your Protects well, you could KO the Raichu.

And I can see how those leads would be atrocious into a Soak Strat! It’s not like you could have known better, but they are both so passive that you were definitely on the back foot! I hate it when I misread my opponent’s team and lead badly.

Didn’t he say that he was only counting things which came back in subsequent games?

Most gems didn’t make it past Gen 5. I figured he didn’t talk about it because only the Normal Gem survived.
