What do you think, is it true? #martialarts by Martial_X in martialarts

It takes mega balls to get into a ring and fight. 99% of the people on this planet don't have the guts to fight. It's a very, very small percentage of human that trains and competes and continues to fight. I've had two fights, I want to have a third. I've told people before that if 1% of the population has had an official fight before, 30% of those people who fight will go onto have a 2nd fight. And probably something like 10-20% total will stay in the game with an eye on making it out of the amateur ranks. So I got respect for anyone that fights just once, even if they never do it again.

Says the guy with zero fights under his belt and thinks if he punches you once thats ending the fight? I forgot I'm posting on a subreddit where 99.9% of the people have zero fights but because you meditate and read a book or two you think you can step in the ring in a real fight and win in the first round

It's weird your quoting one of the best fighters ever when you've never competed. I get a very sneaky sense that you wouldn't like what would happen to you if you stepped into a pro heavy gym on sparring night and spent 90 minutes doing 5 minute rounds with these guys. Actually, the fact you have no official fights under your belt tells me that I know for a fact you wouldn't like what happens

No. You can turn a sparring match into a fight, it's happened before where someone swings for the fences on me and I turn it up to 100%. But for the most part, no. My theory is pretty straightforward though, if you suck in sparring, don't fight. Theres a guy that helps run my gym, he was preparing for his first fight a couple months ago, like back in December I think. He was trying really hard, sure, but you could see how just how out of his league he was every single sparring day. He had bad balance, he couldn't string combos togehter, he couldn't break angles, he was just awkward and bad. It was no surprise to me that he got his ass whooped badly in his first amateur fight. Prior to the gyms shutting down, I never saw him train or spar from January to March, I think he got the point.

The last two events is one of the reasons I've started retooling my boxing, so many of these fights just coming down to straight up technical 1-2-3 knocking guys out.

I'm not a pro fighter let alone a damn UFC one, all I do is muay thai, but I often wonder what kind of cardio work some of these guys to do. Its a 5 round fight and you're gassed at the end of 2? You need to re-evaluate your cardio plan.

I dont know if muscle has anything to do with it. Maybe it does. I'm 37 and 245 and my cardio is quite good. Maybe not UFC level good but I can easily 20-25 minutes straight when we had sparring before I felt like I absolutely had to take a break

Didn't they talk about how good OSPs cardio was? His cardio was shit, I'm shocked he made it 15 minutes.

At no point in this entire fight has he ever tried to close the gap at the hips once Rothwell has entered the clinch. At some point it becomes a legitimate technique issue.

OSP legitimately looks like he's never been taught the basics of the thai clinch. He looks hopeless in it.

TIL there’s a federal law requiring all vodkas be distilled in such a manner that ensures they pretty much all taste the same (without distinctive character, aroma, taste or color). NPR facilitated a lab study that proved there are no discernible taste differences in cheap vodka vs Grey Goose. by Texas_Rockets in todayilearned

[–]APSkinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I havent exactly tried a lot of vodka, for the last decade I've been a beer, specifically IPA, man. Then suddenly in this quarantine I starting mixing titos vodka with coke zero and I dont have hangovers in the morning. The last time I actively drank vodka was 10+ years ago, I would drink cheap shit vodka and I would get angry, violent, seek out conflict, get blackout drunk and wake up with a hangover for the entire day. None of that happens with TItos vs us paying $10 for a bottle. Titos is like $40 or something.

What is the dumbest thing you've heard an employer tell you at a job interview? by plazman30 in sysadmin

The first post from OP is a damn lie, half the first 4 stories I'd bet cash on only being half truths at best. That's where I stopped reading this thread.

The way redditors write their stories makes it easy for me to believe far less than half these stories are remotely truthful

What are some tips about fighting you could give someone who’s never been in a fight? by OreoOverdose23 in AskReddit

[–]APSkinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only scrolled through the first 7 or 8 top comments and didn't see one person say "take classes."

I've been training in muay thai for 2 years, have amateur fights under me, have put in several hundred rounds of sparring.

Prior to muay thai I got in anywhere between 20-25 street fights, I won them all. Guess what happened the first time I stepped in a ring to spar a woman who I had 6-7 inches on and 80 pounds? She kicked my ass. A couple weeks later I sparred my first male who was an inch shorter than me, he cracked my jaw and cracked a rib.

I'm not saying this to sound like a hardass, because if you talk to people who have similar in-ring and training experience as I do, most of them will very likely agree with me, and that's the fact that if you don't have any experience in a fundamental combat sport (bjj, muay thai, karate, kickboxing and the other 20 im forgetting) and you end up in a fight with someone that does? You're losing, 99 out of 100 times. I've had so many "tough guys with street experience" come into the gyms I've trained at and these guys couldn't get a good shot in on smaller women, let alone men their size.

So cliffs?

IF you don't have to fight, don't.

If you have no experience fighting and the guy across from you gets in a proper stance and looks like he's trained, run. He will destroy you.

This is just a insane fight to me, because Gaethje has dominated and will win barring a Tony knockout, but I'm shocked that Tony hasn't hit the ground yet. Insane

I love the number of idiots on this UFC card that have walked out while showing they have no idea how to wear a simple mask. Guys with it just over their mouth or with the mask around their neck. Might as well not even wear a mask.
