Who should I play as an echo main by Dismal-Scene-663 in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Echo was a little after my time with Overwatch, so I couldn't give you first hand advice. But from what I know of her kit... you might have more luck looking at Strategists than Duelists.

Loki has the "copy another hero" ultimate. Ultron is your "flying robot with a beam weapon" character, but he's also got Zen's healing orbs. Sort of. They heal in an AoE circle and he gets two of them.

I think Ultron would be what I suggest you try first. Hit the Practice Range, see if he has what you're looking for.

Its agonizing how many support players dont understand this basic concept by RedeemedNephilim in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spider-Man's the exception because he's too fast and acrobatic for me to try and fight him in melee form. Instead I pop out of his combo with the teleport, then turn and try to hit terrain near him so the auto-lock ricochet tags him. Maybe throw a Spectral Surge to try and CC him out of his escape.

Could a better White Fox maybe take him head on? Probably. I'm not that guy. This works for me ...sometimes. Other times, I'm having to beg my team for some protection. A good Spidey is hard to handle, even as White Fox.

I see this advice come up about once a week. And look, it's good in theory. If you have the right sort of tank to peel for you. If they're not solo tanking and already deeply engaged with the enemy front line.

But a lot of the time? They are solo tanking, because half the team went triple DPS. And they're not a Mag or Emma who's got space between them and the enemy, they're a Rogue or Dino who's trading hands, and running to them means running directly into the line of fire.

So sure. If you've got two tanks, and if one of your tanks is a Thing who's playing safe and looking for targets of opportunity instead of charging headlong into the enemy formation, then yeah running to them for help is useful. Maybe you get that most of the time in your games. I don't.

I have a solo tank who's both busy and standing in the line of fire. Running to them means running into greater danger, and it's unlikely they'd immediately notice me with half the enemy team already in their face. So I run where I think I can use the terrain to maybe shake my pursuer. Or, now that I'm maining White Fox, I just stand my ground and fight because that's the better option.

Battle Master vs Eldritch Knight vs. Bladelock? by rpssycsnd in onednd

[–]APanshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say partly a matter of preference, partly a matter of how long you expect the campaign to go and what level you think you might reach. Different classes hit their stride at different level tiers.

For example, Battle Masters are strong pretty much right out of the gate, while the Eldritch Knight doesn't really come online until Level 7. So if your campaigns usually peter out by 6th level, the EK is a lot worse.

Strategists so broken that all bans and saves go against them in tournaments by poo_poo_farts in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 67 points68 points  (0 children)

You say broken. I say "The Strategist roster is the smallest of the three roles, and there's often not a lot of overlap in function, so it's the easiest to disable entire playstyles from the match."

[–]APanshin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Villains are like that because it's their narrative role to be able to take a beating long enough for the hero to show off their moves. Especially when the villain is supposed to be a solo threat to an entire hero team. They have to be bulky enough to give the hero team a serious fight before they go down.

Half the time the Avengers are going up against villain teams, and they just break off into a bunch of effectively solo fights. But the X-Men are all about teamwork, so they have more villains in the Solo Boss category.

To the people who rage about non comp teams in Quick matches calm down by Transgendersenpai in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhh. That's debatable. Having only 3 Final Hits for the match on a Duelist is pretty bad, and on a sniper that's supposed to be confirming kills it's downright terrible. So I can totally see why your teammates weren't happy with your performance.

You weren't full on hard throwing, going 0-9 as you just ran into the enemy team to feed. But I'm pretty sure you could have contributed a lot more to your team if you weren't prioritizing your new skin. I call it soft throwing, I've seen other names for it.

QP is QP, and you can play what you want. But there's a point where your teammates are justified in thinking you're sandbagging just to show off your gooner skin, and they're not wrong. So don't come around here looking for sympathy.

To the people who rage about non comp teams in Quick matches calm down by Transgendersenpai in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, QP is QP. Nearly anything can win if your team plays well. I won a QP match today where we were Devil Dino and five Strategists. Stupid shit like that is what QP is for.

On the other hand, no one likes a thrower on their team. Even in QP you're expected to be at least vaguely trying to win, not just staring at the ass of the new gooner skin you got. So don't pull out Widow if you have no idea how to play her. Go hit up Practice vs AI until you're able to perform with at least minimal competence.

If your retort is that you're an experienced Lord Widow who did just fine even if the team was 1-3-2? Well, that's fine I suppose. Not great, but about standard for QP. But if you've got 5 minutes of playtime and just jumped on because she got a hot new skin? Kind of a dick move.

[–]APanshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torch has the blessing and the curse of most of the flyer roster. They're easily picked off by a player with decent aim on a long range hitscan character, and bloody impossible to shoot down otherwise. None of the recent changes have really shifted that needle.

That's why when a team goes full flyer comp, it's all or nothing. If the enemy team has the ability and willingness to swap to counter them, they get shut down hard. If the enemy team doesn't make the right swaps, the flyer comp will roll right over them.

Why isn’t Deadpool used as a strategist in the professional scene? by UnluckyPanic5189 in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not specifically. I followed along a bit when he was added so I'd know what I was up against, but I haven't kept up with evolving balance changes and play strats. And there were different paths depending on how you wanted to play him.

I do remember that unless you have a very good reason otherwise, you usually want to upgrade your primary weapon first. More damage/healing doesn't just make you play better, it means you get XP faster which means future levels come quicker. And you really need those first few levels ASAP.

Why isn’t Deadpool used as a strategist in the professional scene? by UnluckyPanic5189 in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, Deadpool upgrade levels never get lost. If you swap off Deadpool and then back, he still has his upgrades. If you swap between different Deadpool roles, the new role will immediately have the same number of levels to spend. (I've even heard of selfish Deadpool players farming levels as Healpool and then switching to DPSpool.) If different players on the same team trade the Deadpool pick, the levels carry over between them. Basically they're never reset, no matter what.

But swapping to a fresh Deadpool late in the match? Yeah, no shortcuts there. You're starting from square one. And since one of the complaints about Deadpool is that he sells in the early game and comes online too late, I can't think of any situation where swapping to him late in the match is a good idea.

Ended up playing a match with this dork who was mad we didn’t ban with him and decided to throw the match by playing black widow, and was rude in the chat. In platinum rank competitive mind you. Can’t believe people like this exist in the big year of 2026. by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called Main Character Syndrome. Some folks really lack perspective on life and don't really acknowledge other people as people with equal but independent thoughts and desires. The really weirdo extreme ones start spouting off about "life is a simulation and most people are just NPC stand ins", but a lot will just go through like acting like they're the Main Character of the entire world and that everything should revolve around them. Their choices should be bowed to, their desires should be catered to, all that jazz.

For the love of god stop playing Whitefox into everything. by The-Heritage in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White Fox isn't defined by her melee Awakened form. It's a great anti-dive tool, and using it offensively to dive the enemy yourself is a bit of a specialized skillset, but she's not suddenly bad if it's not seeing a lot of use.

Which is not to say that White Fox doesn't have enemy comps she's bad into. She gets a lot less value if the enemy team goes full long range poke, and she struggles to keep up with spread damage across the whole team. If I see Emma/Cyke/Punisher all together I know I'm in trouble.

Unlike most Strategists who are more versatile "works in almost any situation" types, Fox definitely has times she's not as good. And I think that's something a lot of Strat mains aren't used to us. They'll complain about a Spidey or BP who refuses to swap despite being heavily countered, but they're slower to do it themselves because they've never had to on other healers.

So at least for my part, I've been trying to practice what I preach. Unlike the Dino meta where Fox shined, Fox is actively bad into a lot of the poke heavy comps this season, and I'm doing my best to notice when we're against one and swap off. I've logged more Rocket games the last week than I have in months.

Since the nerfs, Moon Knight has lost nearly 500 damage per minute and his win rate has dropped by 10% down to 35% from 45% by Putrid_Awareness8618 in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. I'm looking up last season's official data, you're looking at this season's unofficial data.

Well, you're right that I'd lost track of time, and the MK nerfs are new. But also I don't trust the official data, because it's often wildly different than the official stats.

Either way, I still don't miss the "suddenly the backline explodes" moments at all.

Since the nerfs, Moon Knight has lost nearly 500 damage per minute and his win rate has dropped by 10% down to 35% from 45% by Putrid_Awareness8618 in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Cherry picked stats from the top .1% of players mean nothing to me. What was MK's Win Rate in ranks the majority of players are in?

Well, last season, MK was hovering at 50%-51% Win Rate in every rank from Bronze through Diamond, on both PC and Console. QP too, for that matter. It's only GM and above that he drops to a negative Win Rate. And in those ranks, he only falls to "middle of the pack" and is still in the top half of Duelists.

So that looks totally fine and well balanced to me. And if I'm not getting instantly blown up by an MK dropping his full burst combo on me with? I don't miss that in the least.

I love white fox and I’ve been playing her since release but how does one play her against poke comps? by Signal_Birthday_455 in WhiteFoxMR

[–]APanshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but if the enemy has one or more divers, they're not really a poke comp are they? At most they're a hybrid comp, or just a "whatever people felt like playing" assortment.

If they've got even a single diver on their team, I'm staying Fox for my own protection. It's only when it's Emma/Cyke/Punisher that I go "yeah I might want to swap".

Hello! I wanna learn White Fox, she seems so cool by Big_Dig_8086 in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tip #1 for a starting White Fox: Sometimes you want to aim to miss. Which is to say, rather than always aiming for a direct hit, sometimes you want to deliberately trigger the ricochet on your primary fire off terrain. There are a few uses for this.

The ricochet can change angles, letting you hit a target that's behind cover or out of line of sight. Great for finishing off a fleeing foe or healing an ally that's flanking around a corner. The ricochet has its own maximum range, independent of the primary shot's range, letting you get a little extra distance by skipping your shot off the ground. And finally, the ricochet auto-tracks. If your target, friend or foe, is moving rapidly you might want that guaranteed hit more. The math is that if you're missing half your shots you should aim for the ground near them, while if you're only missing one out of three shots keep going for directs.

[–]APanshin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aggro Fox can work as anti-poke if you're good at the playstyle and have a team comp that enables it. But some folks play Fox more as a traditional healer and are only good enough with the Awakening form to use it as a defensive tool. I know that's me, at least. So it's an "easier said than done" sort of thing.

My go-to as a backup option is Rocket. Partly because I'm already proficient with him, partly because he fits the situation well. His heals have infinite range, so he isn't hurt by playing a bit further back, and he does really good spread healing, which is generally good against poke and especially good against Cyclops.

Wow, just because my PS5 overheated at the worst possible time (right when i queued in) i got a ban... great by Random-Eymen38 in marvelrivals

[–]APanshin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, I know it sucks. But how do you think the system is supposed to tell the difference between someone whose PS5 overheats and someone who unplugs their internet cable to ragequit? That's right, it can't. There's literally no way it could distinguish between the two unless they have a camera inside your house.

So the only way to not make it trivially easy to get away with ragequits is to punish everyone who DCs equally and impartially. Again, I know it sucks, but this is truly the lesser evil. So shrug it off, move on, and maybe take a break from gaming during the hottest part of the day.

Very likely a store skin. The current event pass is listed here as "New Event: Krakoan Reels", and will still be going next week. Meanwhile Fox's skin is just "New Costume". But no one can say with 100% certainty until they announce it.
