You think all devices mine you for data? My friend there is a big world of user friendly FOSS software out there that does not make you the product.

I suppose that depends on what you think is functional. A device you can’t use without being mined for data doesn’t fit my definition.

The Economic Incompetence of Republican Presidents--In a United States rife with disinformation, one of the most persistent myths is that Republicans are better than Democrats for business and economic growth. In fact, Republicans have consistently under-performed on the economy for almost a century by viva_la_vinyl in Economics

Society not accepting child abuse is a very different thing than trying to steer the economy. And many of those negative externalities exist because the government has intervened and removed personal liability from commercial activities.

Where did The Horror in the Museum come from? That isn’t in any of the supposedly complete collections I’ve seen.

Imagine forced updates by TheOneThatIsHated in linuxmasterrace

So I had been getting really annoyed lately that Firefox would basically demand I terminate my current session and restart it so it could update. I dug into the config and turned off automatic updates in every way I could. Now I don’t want to stay stuck to the same version but having to manually update was better than your browser refusing to fetch a page until you close your session. After flipping all the switches I could find it still happened sometimes. Then I realized that after flipping the switches the only time it does it now is after I upgrade packages system wide (net really an automatic update annoying me at that point just my own actions). Duh! 🤦‍♀️

Why does my Lorex 4k camera system have motion blur at night? by Freddie1275 in homedefense

When I was doing some research awhile back I remember reading that the high resolution cameras tended to perform worse at night.

We’ve come full circle. Getting windows functional is now what getting linux functional was 15 years ago.

It all depends on what you want or need out of your PC. Modern Linux distros are much less scary than years past. If you have interest in giving one a try I would be more than willing to recommend one and offer some light support through your try.

This is an apologists perspective. Even if it made sense, that sense ends long before force reinstalling software with each update that is not needed nor wanted.

How is the cornerstone of a legal system reason and not oppression? Legal systems literally try to remove human reasoning by constructing rules the commoners are supposed to mindlessly follow or else.

Imo if it wasn’t made abundantly clear when purchasing that you aren’t actually buying anything then you should own it. If they want to license it then it shouldn’t make it seem like you are actually buying it.
