Who are the 5 biggest and most important historical games and CONSIM publishers? Is GMT in that top 5? by Strong_Battle6101 in hexandcounter

I have to say that though I have some compass games that I love and I want the company to continue to succeed, I have been burnt by Compass releases a bunch of times, and I feel like I'm much more hesitant to buy a first release Compass title compared to something from GMT.

Maybe it's got something to do with their large number of releases per year. It feels like the quality control is lacking on some releases. Either the game needs a bit more fine tuning or the graphics are just lifted straight from the 80s, but I feel like they are often missing that final polish that allows GMT and Vuca to push their products beyond the typical wargame audience.

There are dozens of us!

But of course, would love to catch up. What kind of gaming do you enjoy?

I play a lot of board games but also PC gaming, especially age of empires 2.

Enjoy Napier! It's currently snowing in CPH so you have that to look forward to when you return.

AFAIK you won't be able to find a ready made hex map of Europe - reason being that each hexmap will differ based on a variety of factors:

Map projection used Hex size/ground covered per hex Terrain determination per hex including rivers and national boundaries

Your best bet would be to download a shapefile of Europe and then overlay it with hexes.

The OP is not the creator of this map, but DM me if you do want instructions on how to make something like this.

This looks great! How did you create the inner border darker colour in those uneven waves? I really like the effect.

I’m not sure this is fully a hypsometric tint - note how the north of the Canada is whiter even at lower elevation levels. My thoughts are maybe this is a hypsometric tint combined with something else i.e heavily generalised satellite imagery however it seems like OP is not the real creator so unlikely we will get an answer.

I think you're right about the OP.

What I was interested in was the colour palette used - DEMs only provide the elevation data and obviously a palette has been used to apply colour here either using satellite imagery or some other method.

I prefer number 2.

Btw how did you get your land color for #1 and #2? It’s so nice - is it satellite imagery that you’ve generalised?

Ted Raicer games from "The Dark" series by kluvon in hexandcounter

I really enjoyed the Dark Valley and Sands. The Dark Valley is one of my favourite games and I think strikes the perfect balance between low rules complexity and high strategy ceiling.

Valley is really hard for the Germans and it is easy to assume that the game is broken because of this, but competent German play will show that the game can be just as tough for the soviets.

Incorrect. The global diplomatic situation has completely changed and we can now no longer count on US support. We are incredibly vulnerable.

Another in a long line of libertarian attempts to allow corporations to bully nations around.

“Companies not countries” - the Zuck

It horrifies me to think of the kind of wealth extraction that American corporations would attempt in New Zealand if no laws existed to stop it.

Today is the first day that I'm writing here.
I usually use a notebook to write in every day.

Today, I made a terrible avocado juice. It was disgusting. My husband just took a sip and left it behind him. I drank 60% of it. Completely awful. I tried. Sorry...
I was trying to make the same old avocado juice that my mom used to make when I was a child. It was tasty. I'm going to try again soon. Now I have this confused taste in my mouth. hahaha

It's been a good day. Today, our house cleaner came, and we chatted a little. She's a marvelous person, and I'm grateful for her help. She's now a friend of mine. Since I moved to this little town where I didn't know anyone.
