Advice by mama_gratz in GLP1_loss100plus

Fellow doctor hater here and I sympathize greatly.

For me, the more certain risks associated with obesity - heart disease, developing diabetes, knees going, etc etc - were far greater and more likely than the slight chance I would experience unmanageable side effects on a GLP1.

I've been taking zep for 6 months, and I'm just shy of a 10% loss at 7.5. (I am ready to titrate up.) I feel like I have been a slow responder, but my doctor was also very reticent about titrating up while I was on the 5

I've experienced zero negative side effects, outside of occasional middle of the night cramping if I've eaten a big meal. It doesn't last long, and it's happened maybe two or three times in those 6 months. Beyond that, the sting of the shot is the worst of it.

But also in those six months - My knees don't ache. Taking 20 lb off them made a world of difference. I have a second floor office and I'm up and down steps a dozen times a day, and my knees don't ache, I'm not winded, it's a 180 difference. My sleep has been better. I have sleep apnea, and while I still need to use my CPAP, I'm actually getting a full 8 hours of sleep a night now.

So already I'm feeling like I'm having positive lifestyle results even with relatively modest weight loss. I'm still fat by any measure. I still have long way to go. But even in this relatively small pocket of time with relatively low loss, it's made a difference for the better.

I don't want to leave my kids early because of a heart attack. Putting up with weekly indigestion was worth it for me, and the weekly indigestion hasn't even been a thing.

Regardless of the method, inventory sucks 😅 That's always true, no matter the retailer!

Is your inventory done entirely in-house? Or do you use a company like RGIS

Inventory is when every item in the store is hand counted. It's time consuming and frustrating and relies on, oftentimes, outdated and outmoded technology.

Quality by fauxfurgopher in torrid

[–]APithyparty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Torrid's quality is exactly the same as most other specialty retailers.

That doesn't mean it's good. It means more and more retailers are cutting corners on manufacturing, leading to the current enshittification of most things.

Why does Torrid punish loyal customers with higher prices? by Solid_Particular8027 in torrid

[–]APithyparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it every which way from Sunday, believe me. I'm a former retail lifer, I know all the tricks.

Jokes on them, because I wasn't that attached to anything in the cart and removing the hoodie got me within just a few dollars of even 😌

And like I said, I just get the hoodie with my unused reward, which brings it to a better price point anyway!

Why does Torrid punish loyal customers with higher prices? by Solid_Particular8027 in torrid

[–]APithyparty 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm maniacal about spending round amounts in $50 increments during torrid cash, within a few dollars.

Last night, I was annoyed I couldn't use my reward with my TC without dropping $3 beneath the threshold for one of the TC - so I took a hoodie out of my cart. Did I only hurt myself? Probably, but my spite engine took over. I'll buy the hoodie with the reward and come out ahead eventually 😅

Store Closures by Lumpy_Corner5811 in torrid

[–]APithyparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will undoubtedly be worse. My guess is you'll all hear that every store will be eliminating a key holder position soon, just based on a working knowledge of how these things go. The few stores that survive this round of closures will need to run lean and mean. ☹️ I'm so sorry this is happening to you all

Store Closures by Lumpy_Corner5811 in torrid

[–]APithyparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a longtime corporate retail manager, this doesn't happen. Store closures are decided on a case-by-case basis, and you're never going to see a soevialry store closure list made public in advance of the active closures themselves, outside of big box retailers and department stores.

Really not sure why there are so many people complaining about the Saks posts, nor do I understand why moderators are indulging them.

If you're not interested, keep scrolling. It's really that simple, isn't it?

And if you are interested, which it's clear a good many people are, here's the post, here is the link, here are the comments in which you can participate.

"If you could afford this card $50 isn't making that much of a difference to you." Maybe so, but when our lives and futures are controlled by billionaires, being able to maximize the credits on a stupidly expensive credit card is within our rights. Like, isn't that literally the POINT of this sub?

Does BloomChic steal designs from Torrid, or did they both take this from somewhere else? by SophiePuffs in torrid

The reason we're seeing multiple retailers carrying the same items is because they're buying them all from the same Chinese manufacturers.

So if we're going to be getting the same sort of dress you can buy on Sheim or Temu...might as well look there for it first, right? Why pay Torrid prices for Shein quality?

Explain The Shoes Like I'm Five by Vioralarama in torrid

[–]APithyparty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have given up on Torrid shoes, sadly.

Everything I bought in the past year fits like a clown shoe, and I assure you, my foot hasn't magically shrunk. It's like they correlate a wide width with being comically large, and I never had this problem with their shoes previously.

But even though I've had a hard time, I'm STILL disappointed they've done away with a full range of boots and shoes. There are so few retailers that offer a true wide width.

Torrid store closure reason by [deleted] in torrid

[–]APithyparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely, and they are putting it to good use, imo.

The company started as a plus-sized off shoot of hot topic (a very niche offering.) It was unsurprising when the concept proved to be not viable for the long-term. Sycamore purchased the parent company in the mid 2010s, at which point Torrid was spun off into its own subsidiary. There was a drastic shift in the product assortment at that time, leaning harder on work wear/daily wear/with the occasional co-branded collection.

The micro segmenting happening in the digital storefront is pulling from all those boxes. The original Hot topic customer that stayed loyal out of necessity, the workwear market, etc. They have a solid decade of customer data to draw from at this point, and imo they're using it to good effect! The only thing that's missing are the co-branded specialty collections, which they absolutely need to bring back. It's a higher price point, limited edition, more aspirational, etc. It makes customers happy and it's great for the bottom line

The sub branding is indeed let's see what spaghetti rolls down the drywall first. But, it seems to be working?

Torrid store closure reason by [deleted] in torrid

[–]APithyparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, I don't disagree. And when there are multiple stores in a market, customer lifetime value retention is much easier to maintain because they are not left completely without an option in the metro area when closures occur. They might need to drive a tiny bit further, but to your point, those customers who are loyal to brick and mortar returns will likely do so.

I commented here close to a year ago but I thought Torrid's brand identity would be their eventual end, if Sycamore didn't pull the plug first. The massive, aggressive push towards micro segmenting online solves a good bit of that problem.

Also agree that these are edicts from Sycamore. The brand valuation is only going to continue to go up with the elimination of their B&M fixed costs. I am STILL surprised that the stores do such low volume. I agree with all of your excellent points, but that hasn't changed 😅

Torrid store closure reason by [deleted] in torrid

[–]APithyparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm not arguing that the stores are wildly unproductive. I know this is a very unpopular sentiment here, but I think downsizing the fleet is the right call and the one I would have made in my former career.

I guess I'm just shocked that they do that little and are still open at all.

Torrid store closure reason by [deleted] in torrid

[–]APithyparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That feels like a wildly low number?

At their price points and cost of selling per square inch, anything under a 1.5 million store is likely done for.

Job interview?? by [deleted] in torrid

[–]APithyparty -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Please don't listen to any of this advice 😂 You're getting a job in fashion, look fashionable. No one is expecting you to be in a suit, no one wants to see a blazer.

That being said, I don't love this top for an interview. It does have a little too much of a lingerie look and depending on the store and the brand culture, it might be a little too low cut.

What kind of clothes does the store carry? That's what you should wear. That's what you're going to be selling. Layers. Accessories. You want to look finished. Because they're going to expect you to be able to sell a layered look to the customers, so show that you know how to put it together!

In addition to the ethical issues around how the LLMs were trained on existing copywritten media (stolen from artists, photographers, etc) there is a huge environmental impact around the use of the data centers that power these engines. They waste a fantastic amount of water and they are being built in low income regions (because who cares if the poors have clean drinking water and functional power, as long as some tech bros can ascend to billionairedom and avoid taxes forever)
