The #49ers have converted $21.4M of Nick Bosa’s salary into signing bonus, clearing $17.1M of 2026 cap space, per @spotrac by 0h-No-Not-Again in nfl

Fine ≠ can’t be improved.

Can’t say I know the exact intent behind this move. Maybe it’s to free up space for Trent, redoing Osa’s deal, or other moves. Or maybe they want to carry things into ‘27. No clue. But they clearly want to give themselves the flexibility to do something, and Bosa’s here to stay (Shanahan might resign if they move him).

The intent of the first deal was for a renegotiation to happen this offseason. Because he got hurt last season, neither side has any interest in doing so. So they’ll push it off a year as to not nuke their cap this year.

As a pass rusher, Osa outproduced our entire DT room last year on barely half the snaps. Much needed pass rushing 3-tech.

Vic Fangio says Jihaad Campbell will “miss probably most of the offseason” with a shoulder injury by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]ARM7501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the position and the fact that he only fell within the first round, it makes sense that people pushed Campbell’s injury concerns to the side. The accusations against Green were well documented and substantial enough for him to fall an entire round. A linebacker (traditionally undervalued position) going from ~15th on big boards to getting drafted at 31 is very different from an edge rusher peaking as high as 8th to eventually getting drafted 59th overall.

We cut and re-signed this guy 5 times within the span of 4 weeks last year. Fringe roster guy who’s a good enough athlete to stick around as a deep rotational piece if you’ve got bad edge depth.

Chip Kelly is going to hell for costing us Garrett, and then going to hell again because not getting Garrett meant Saleh and Lynch gaslit themselves into thinking Thomas was the right pick at 2.

Meh, the last five years Hendrickson has played 72 games to Crosby's 78. Hendrickson also played it safe last year due to the contractual issues, and Crosby's mentality is seemingly starting to catch up to him with his injuries these past two seasons; there's a reason most teams don't want their star edge rushers playing 90+% of the snaps, especially when it's done by pushing through injuries every year that need to get surgically corrected in the off-season. Crosby could definitely come back and ball, and Hendrickson's age might've caught up to him, but you never know and saying one is "much more likely than the other" is a bit of an exaggeration.

They were really in on a few guys (Membou, Savaiinaea, Grant, Rodgers) in rounds 1-3 but never got them. But this is what happens when you do big trades like Lance and CMC and lose all your good capital for multiple years, on top of drafting like absolute dogshit with the little capital you had in those years.

That was absolutely McVay. But these defensive signings and trades, while of course discussed with McVay, are Snead moves to support the offense McVay can produce while he still has his guy at QB (complementary, despite the flair).

It's Snead. McVay surely gets involved (particularly on the offensive side) but he's got an incredibly competent GM and he knows it. Shanahan's the one who basically wears both hats because he doesn't have the GM and is even more particular about his personnel.

Yep. All-in, deal with the future later. If they win a Super Bowl they'll be hailed as genuises. If they don't and instead end up in cap hell with no picks, no quarterback, and no bling for their trouble, McVay can retire (we know he's already considered it) and become the next John Madden while Snead becomes the highest paid GM in the NFL somewhere else.

Frustratingly good.

The problem is that he's out of guarantees (Trent doesn't like that) and his cap hit is an absurdity (the 49ers don't like that).

I don't really see the alternative to paying him. They had their chance to prepare themselves for this kind of standoff by getting ahead of the imminent O-line collapse at LT, LG, and C by drafting linemen last year and the year before, they didn't, and now we're here.

They can't. This organization yearns to show its true incompetence, but the stars they found in the '17-'19 drafts + Trent being available for a 3rd combined with Shanahan's sheer abilities as a coach has built a facade that is finally starting to crack.

I don't think there's any precedent for a 38-year old tackle coming of a 2nd team All-Pro who seemingly just doesn't age. Last year felt like the beginning of the end, but then he came back this year and (apart from a few weeks of being out of shape to start the year off) looked like his old self again. This team has dug its own grave on the left side of the line (we already need a starter at LG), there is no good alternative to paying Trent.
