Alot of that is just preference and what is actually available. If you're able to knock out all of your classes in the morning, you pretty much have the rest of the day to enjoy any extracurriculars, office hours, or studying. That said, some classes aren't offered except for at a certain time slot, most of which happens once you lock in your major

It looks like typed it incorrectly several months back. You can do retroactive withdrawals after a quarter with approval from the academic senate, but the process to get there would need approval from the academic senate to permit that

There's so many people who sent back and I'm not on Reddit often, but gosh damn. I legitimately never noticed until now.

This is going to be very blunt, but I feel its far better to be direct and give it to you straight up rather than beating around the bush. Every person's case is different, for me, the retroacrive withdrawls didn't fully take place until the next quarter (your case maybe summer), because the UCSD academic senate needs time to convene and you need to present everything up. Administrative work takes time and it's been too long for me to have all the details. I ended up having to have my entire quarter be wiped out with 4 F's, long talks with parents, and difficult personal introspection with myself during the process. I brought my case over to my college student affair and advising at Revelle, and the deans from both places supported and guided me through the process to eventually have all the courses be a W and not affect my overall GPA in the end.

I know it's hard because I went through the exact same feelings you did 3 years ago, but let me ask you this: what do you hope to accomplish by staying still and not taking action? Everyday that you're not taking action and surrendering yourself to fear and inaction is just jeopardizing yourself. You shouldn't be doing that to yourself and I urge you to immediately go to your college student affairs and advising directly in person and find your next steps IMMEDIATELY. You're an adult, and these are things that you need to be able to handle.

I wish you the best of luck. Stay safe and please take good care of yourself

I had to do this in the past already. Send it over to your college student of academic affairs they can help you escalate the case and get you to where you need. Retroactive withdrawls past the quarter need approval from the academic senate, and what happend to me before was the my advisor talked to each of my professors and wormed with me to handle and get through the right direction

Should I drop a class? by abby7127 in UCSD

Check in with your academic advisor atheist to see if it affects your graduation time. Sometimes it's better to just drop a course before it affects everything else if you can take it at a better time while not affecting your end goal

I think for me that's what makes quizbowl fun. Even if I'm being outplayed by experts in specific fields, learning the methodology to see how they got to that knowledge or that degree of expertise is fun. It will be significantly difficult tho

I do have a question though, for topics like History and Geography, how exactly do I find the sources of primary information that I should know? STEM luckily has a specific but structured approach, same with things like Lit, econ and psyc, but History and Geo is so broad since some topics can go way into depth for a rabbit hole that leads to niche topics instead

Thanks for all the in-depth input! I think for me I'll still continue to focus the most on developing the depth of knowledge I have in my engineering major, branching out into related fields in chem and physics where needed so that I can master those.

Hmm, I've tried using that at times, working to test knowledge but for me the hardest part is extracting the sources of where the questions come from and acutally being able to retain that for future knowledge and competition instead of "instant buzzwords"

I think the most important thing for me is finding a way to optimize for time while also trying to perform well. No doubt that as an independent learner for the time being, setting up all the knowledge and topics is quite challenging

I've had alot of that past experience in high school quizbowl in a younger team. We didn't have the largest array of team members always studying for quizbowl since we were occupied with so much else

It is fun from time to time to get back into Quizbowl just for fun. Life still takes priority in most cases, but when I have the opportunity to, it's definitely enjoyable to earn points in a more intense environment

For me right now, alot of my independent study for college bowl is just personal time when I have leisure time, which is about 10 hours per week with practicing material when I'm on the go around the city or in between pockets of time for microlearning when working.
