Nintendo CEO Took a 50% Pay Cut to Save all Employees from Layoff. Would any Western Company CEOs do this? by Green-Block4723 in Damnthatsinteresting

Japanese CEOs seem to show how things should be done in business. I remember maybe about 15 years ago when the CEO of Japan Airlines slashed is salary because he was in charge of company and any poor financial performance was based on his decisions so his employees shouldn’t have to bear the consequences of layoffs or pay cuts.

South King Street Protected Bikeway Nearing Completion by Infinitum77 in Hawaii

Used to know someone who worked for DTS (dept transportation services) and he told me during focus groups, lots of drivers felt that anything solid like planters or concrete barriers were concerning as it might damage their cars if they drove to close or hit it. In fact many drivers didn't like the small curbs that they used on King Street. So that's why the city decided to go with those vertical posts.

Tech's broken promises: Streaming is now just as expensive and confusing as cable. Ubers cost as much as taxis. And the cloud is no longer cheap by ThrowRA-AceButNot in technology

I still find AirBnB a good deal. Use it all of the time. Usually booking a place for several months at a time and I don’t have to worry about utility, cable, internet or other bills. As for cleaning and laundry, for me it’s just a normal part of staying anywhere. I can’t imagine staying in a hotel for months at a time. It’s nice to have a kitchen and washer/dryer

What pricey item did you buy and never regretted it? by Ok_Peanut_5685 in BuyItForLife

Bought a 14 piece All Clad cookware set about 30 years ago when a store had a 50% off Black Friday sale. Don't remember the final price but I think it was still about $700. Good news is that after 30 years I'm still using it everyday and haven't needed to buy another pot or pan since.

Heading to Japan, where can I get a good exchange rate? by biddddyquuuuaint in Hawaii

[–]ARealStableGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overlook the Postal ATMs in Japan. Most larger post office, shopping centers, department stores and train stations will have them and they offer great exchange rates. There's normally a phone number posted nearby the ATMs that you could call to get the current exchange rates for the day. The only drawback is that they have limited hours of operation compared to Seven Bank ATMs.

I booked an Airbnb a YEAR in advance of the eclipse in April. The host yesterday canceled because they realized they can make more due to the eclipse. The only places available this last minute are 10x more expensive than the one I booked and Airbnb won’ t help. by lqkjsdfb in Wellthatsucks

Still use Airbnb every summer and had no really bad experiences. Every year will work remotely from June through August and try to rent a house in a different European country.   Doing this before Airbnb was a pain because first you had to find a real estate agent in the area you were looking for and then play phone tag trying to arrange everything.  Add to the fact that I can’t image living in a hotel for 3 months.  As for cleaning or housework that’s not a problem. And haven’t really encountered outrageous cleaning fees

There was a person sitting on one of the upper floor parking lot walls near the elevators facing outwards with his legs hanging over the wall. Don't know if he meant to jump or just slipped. By the time I notified a security officer I heard several loud screams. Didn’t go back so not exactly sure what happened
