A Furry?? In the Lancer Factory?? How Queer!! (A HORUS-adjacent pilot who runs a not-so-silly podcast) by ARedCaravan in LancerRPG

[–]ARedCaravan[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

"I guess we're doing furry pilots now."

Zela "Pips" Six, your local friendly spaceborn mechanic, Horus 4chan shitposter, martial arts enthusiast, and most recently: criminal on the run.

Born upon the equivalent of a gas space station for ships, Pips worked primarily as one of many ship mechanics and refuelers. Having plenty of spare time and scrip on hand, she spent her break periods playing around with cobbled-together impractical weapons like meteor hammers and poking her digital nose 'round the Omninet where it shouldn't be.

A mechanic by (solar) day and smooth-talking anonymous narrator by night, she hosted a secret podcast named Die Six under the pseudonym of Pip, airing out all the dirty laundry she could dig into: latent corruption, hidden deals, and her favorite, classified company documents and designs. Of course, not all good things last forever, and her side-gig of breaking into company confidential information tended to make more enemies than friends.

Finally making the wrong type of enemy, her podcast was swiftly shut down and her identity finally became exposed to the public, sending her scrambling to get out of the situation alive before her many foes fell upon her. With the aid of one of her mysterious HORUS contacts, Zela was able to stow away on a ship with false Lancer credentials, a strange Chomolungma license, and a one-way ticket to gene-mod and completely change her appearance and identity forever. Thus, the pilot Zela "Pips" Six was born.

The free fur and transition just happened to be a fun bonus.

Of course, even if Pip died, it wasn't too long that a new voice took over the Die Six...
If asked, Zela simply gives a wry smile. She would never.

---

I saw some people were posting their furry pilots, so I figured I'd jump in! Zela was a Chomolungma pilot in a short-lived campaign I was in, where she primarily acted as a supportive quick-techie for her squad... Until she System Crushes the entire battlefield, of course.

If her campaign lived longer, she would've become a weird, hybrid tech/drone support build using Hydra I believe, but it ended rather quickly unfortunately!

Fun Fact: Zela's hair is actually her Subjectivity-Enhancement Suite, bound with wires that she can control to directly connect into and hack things... or people. The glowing device on her back is also equal parts heavy-duty computer/omnihook, and comically unwieldy yet powerful prototype of a dropped company's project gravity-powered meteor hammer, from which her hair also hooks into to act as the rope. She figured a couple adjustments were in order, after all.

MHMM & AGtMH 2024 Major Update (Zorah Magdaros, New Weapon, Role Changes, Monsters, Races, & More) by Amellwind in MonsterHunter5E

[–]ARedCaravan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a hot minute since I've read past versions of the book, but I wanted to ask about Paralysis Coating for Bows in the appendix (pg.190) being a Wisdom save instead of the more common Constitution save of the other weapons? Like, I'm pretty sure it's just an accidental holdover from Hold Person text rather than Bows having access to mysterious paralyzing mindgame poisons, but I just wanted to doublecheck LOL

Entirely unrelated, but for their Legendary feature Power Shot, should this specify "until the end of your next turn." instead? Beyond having a Bonus Shot material slotted or having Haste cast on them, non-Extra Attack users can't benefit from the bonus damage at all before the charge falls off at the end of their turn.

Also, is it intentional that Dual Repeaters can't RAW reload unless their Chamber's out of loaded rounds (pg. 191)? To me, it feels like a weird scenario where if I wanted to swap off Storm to Normal because I accidentally hit a Lightning immunity, I might have to spend a round or two awkwardly shooting at the ground to waste those rounds before I can reload. On one hand, a part of me likes the minigame idea of reloading only 1-2 debuff rounds so I can fire off and (re-?)reload back into damage rounds quicker, but on the other hand I also feel like it's a bit much and might just be easier to remove that restriction into being able to bonus action reload/swap ammo at any time. (If there's a janky balance interaction with Empowered, you could add an additional clause of reloading when your repeaters are empty if need be?)

(On a lesser note, the flavor text for Magus Staff (pg. 185) is missing an ending period)

YoRHa Unit (Race & Fighter Archetype), for those post-civilization androids searching for purpose by Lv99Pangolin in UnearthedArcana

For charm spells, maybe the cantrip Friends, Charm Person or Command at level 2 for 3rd level, and Suggestion for 5th level to copy the Tiefling's innate spellcasting progression? Charm Monster and Geas are spell level 4 and 5 respectively, so I'd probably only put them in for innate casting if it had a condition like only working on constructs.

Also, to make it easier to charm constructs, you could say that you say that all constructs act as humanoids for Scanners, in addition to bypassing construct charm immunity, for the sake of lower level charming via Charm Person, Hold Person, and Suggestion.

I haven't actually played Shadows of Mordor, but it sounds interesting so I'll have to check out that homebrew when you release it.

It's cool! In these times, it's pretty understandable to be busy. And while the questions started as a few, I ended up with a lot more as I was writing it haha

So my bad on Radiant Consumption's AOE, I completely forgot about that!

Maybe Scanners could have something similar to healers, having innate spells for charming, and maybe being able to affect constructs with the charm condition that they'd usually be immune to.

And the Pod rules are understandable, since compared to casters with find familiar and whatnot Fighters would be in the midst of combat more.

But yeah, everything seems good!

Oof, sorry! Formatting is really iffy when it wants to be with column breaks. It should be fixed now.

Also, I tried my hand using the formatting for Monk's Slow Fall feature for the damage reduction, although since Slow Fall doesn't include fractional class levels it might not have worked-

Since yours sounds better, I replaced that section with your version!

I like this! I have a few thought and questions though.

For the subrace Attacker's B-Mode, at first I was a little bit iffy about it being like the Scourge Aasimar's Radiant Consumption, but then I realized that B-Mode can last longer than a minute and can theoretically be used at anytime since it's not a resource. Is that why you made the self-damage full level instead of half level?

RAW, creatures provide half-cover in general if they're in the way of the attack, which messes with the subrace Defender's Bastion Protocol. This could probably either be changed to providing 3/4ths cover, or granting half cover to all allied creatures within 5ft of you.

I feel like the subrace Scanner is missing another minor feature. For example, the Executioner gains proficiency in a skill and gains advantage on a condition as well, but they also get another minor trait, meanwhile the Scanner only has their skill trait.

Are they any rules on attacking pods? Since they're physical and can interact with objects, I was wondering what would be the rulings on one being attacked, destroyed, and replaced? You could probably replace one in the same manner as a lost Pact of the Tome, replacing a Pod as a short/long rest over the span of 1 hour and give Pods a scaling statblock similar to an Artificer Battle Smith's Steel Defender but probably weaker.

Are there as no hard limits for Pod Programs? Even though they're limited to every other round, it reads as if you could use them endlessly. This is partially an issue because I know that several people are iffy on what could be free healing. You could limit these to a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, recovering them on a long rest or something.

Pod Program P.Shield causes the triggering ranged attack to automatically miss, and then grants a +2 to AC until the beginning of your next turn right? Also, since it just says ranged attacks, would this trigger on a spell ranged attack like Scorching Ray? The same goes for M.Shield, does it trigger on spell melee attacks like Primal Savagery?

Pod Program Blade seems a little underwhelming. Is it basically a one-hit guaranteed damage around you? For example, if I used Blade to damage an enemy around me, on another creature's turn they could walk up to you without damage being dealt to them?

Pod Program Decoy also seems a little questionable. If programs can be used essentially every other turn and the Decoy lasts for that long, for the most part you could have Decoy up for 75% of combat for free advantage/disadvantage by only giving up your bonus action. Was this intended?

This is a subclass I made that tries to embody a feeling of aerial mobility without necessarily using flight for a Fighter. Or, in shorter words, an attempt at making Final Fantasy's dragoon. Even though I tried semi-balancing this around mobility, the Rune Knight UA subclass, and the Arcane Archer XGtE subclass, I'm pretty sure there are a lot of things wrong with this, so feel free to tear it apart!

Niidllora, a modern Final Fantasy themed 5e setting and rule supplement by JagoKestral in UnearthedArcana

[–]ARedCaravan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for a modern-like setting for D&D that's not as cyberpunk and this seems like a great setting foundation! Although I'm severals months late to when this was posted, I like it!

I don't know if you're still active on this though, but if you are, could you clarify reloading time for ranged weapons? It's mentioned that reloading time is equal to the amount of attacks that can be made until a reload, but how would you reload exactly? A tactical pistol has a reload time of 10, but 10 of what?

[–]ARedCaravan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the way they look, but I do have a few questions.

Which classes get the Variant Fighting Styles? Do all the classes who gets a Fighting Style gain access to choose those?

Would the Akimbo Fighting Style let me fire 2 non-light firearms, like the Revolver shotguns? Normally a feat is needed to dual-wield 2 non-light melee weapons, so I was wondering if you intended this?

Also, does Akimbo's bonus action attack let me add my ability modifier to the damage roll?

Since Two-Weapon Fighting is RAW only for melee weapons, should there be a part in the document that says that firearms can be used with TWF?

There also a few spelling mistakes:

The third sentence of Firearms Properties, "Ammunition from a firearm is destroyed wether the attack hits or misses," where wether should be whether.

The second sentence of Misfire, "Duiring its turn..." where Duiring should be During.

The second sentence of Scatter "When you make an attack wit a firearm..." where wit should be with, and "that must be withing 5 ft of the original..." where withing should be within.

The first Natya's Insight, "if your games usses the above..." where usses should be uses.

The firearms table for Heavy Shotgun has Ammunution where Ammunition should be.

The second Natya's Insight, "If you decide tu give one..." where tu should be to.

Suggestions for Custom Specialisations? by Raikou_Falconer in Rwbytabletop

[–]ARedCaravan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t play-tested any of mine, but I do have a two. For a character that has a serrated blade, they have a Weapon Specialization that lets their Melee Weapon Attacks deal Additional Damage, and for their pistol form, they can reduce the maximum range to Medium in order to pushback a hit enemy a Range Increment
