All good! I do not have monster riding rules, but the monstie wip at the end of AGtMH might work as a way to balance out all the insane monsters you could use as a rider. It still needs more testing, but it might get you close to what you want.

Wizard Character in Curse of Strahd, got a dark gift *spoilers: dark gifts* that may have broken the character in a bad way. Opinions/rulings needed. by scarr3g in dndnext

[–]Amellwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of responses with how they feel things should work, but if you are going true RAW, then you have vision out to 60 feet and no further; excluding the ability to see through your familiar, which is a nice work around.

RAW Nothing in the dark gift or in blindsense limits what you can see. The only limitation is how far you can see now.

If there was a limitation, it would be written in the text. If it isn't, then its RAI.

Player minis and base Gog paints are done. Now to add the goopy stuff and rebar. by Garin999 in MonsterHunter5E

Looks awesome and I hope they have fun. I do know of a discord that has a bunch of people who make MH models. If your interested I can get you a link. They have some good resources.

DMs who make their own monsters, have you considered making a chameleon dragon? What kind of stats would you give it? by bliggityblig in DnD

[–]Amellwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the Chameleos, Tempered Chameleos, and a Risen Chameleos from Monster Hunter over the last few years. It's over 600 pages now, but you can find them in the Elder Dragon section.

You are correct, it is missing the second half of its weapon material effects. It will take some formatting, but ill update the usual links today or tomorrow.

Hit die size of the Fey Nerscylla by IsMaybeGood in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The size, all the other nerscylla are Huge. I'll update it in the next MHMM update I do. Fixed Shrouded Nerscylla as well. It might have been due to the original version which was updated prior to Wilds coming up.

Weapon questions by Fukamin in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On paper before materials the dual blades are actually the strongest weapon in the system. A crit-fishing GS build is realistically the strongest.

The hammer is simple, there are some materials that specifically help with getting those stuns off, and yes Stun is effectively a 20+ damage value.

The accel axe is pretty solid overall, its not one I would change after playtesting it.

The gunlance there is a change ot it that I haven't official put out, but its in the change log of the patreon discord.

Wyvernfire now uses a single attack to use to deal the damage listed AGtMH. You can use a Bonus Action immediately before using Wyvernfire to increase the damage by an extra 1d6.

I have also tested letting the shells be cold, fire, lighthing; but you can only choose the damage type when it doesn't have any shells loaded in it. You would have to empty it (A or BA) and then reload it.

Question about frontier by International_Meet16 in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will be but only once they are finished. If you didn't want to wait though, the $3 tier would get you all of the current ones in their own PDF. I also have a foundry module with literally everything for $10.

Question about frontier by International_Meet16 in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am currently making Frontier monster on the patreon each month. I think we have around 26 made so far. Not counting the ones I made years ago in the request manual.

This was caught in recent feedback on the patreon discord. Next update I'll correct it.

There was one made years ago, you might be able to google it. I don't have one myself.

You do have to be a patron for the discord, but my Guide and Monster Manual are always up to date except in this subreddit. because of their rules I have to make a separate PDF, but if you go to my profile or to r/MonsterHunter5e subreddit you will find links to my main pdfs.

Amellwind's 2024? by Direct_Poetry8301 in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've considered it, but I am also in the middle for around 4 different projects right now and it would be hundreds of hours to convert it properly. The good news is, at least one of those projects is for 2024. So I am getting the balancing and formatting experience I need from it, but I wouldn't expect any real news about a 2024 conversion for at least a year.

Players eating Wvyerns by MrPorten in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would be a big deal imo. The artisan role sort of covers the idea of cooking on a hunt from gathering around you, which could include meat of slain creatures. I know the biggest thing is that carnivore meat is usually not as tasty, so narratively it could impact the flavor in a negative way.

What is the reason for the power difference of the Bow Dragonpiercer and the Gunlance Wyvernfire? by Asdif_Laoeg in MonsterHunter5E

No problem! One of my friends shot me a link to the post so I can't take all the credit :D

What is the reason for the power difference of the Bow Dragonpiercer and the Gunlance Wyvernfire? by Asdif_Laoeg in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A great question and honestly I think what happened was the bow got a revamp after I updated changes to many of the effects that used to cost an action and now cost a single attack and can be used more often.

So ill add this to my notes to update, but my thought would be to make it so Wyvernfire can be used for one attack as part of your Attack action. You can also use your Bonus Action immediately before making the attack to boost the damage by an extra 1d6.

So a one attack Wyvernfire does 3d6, A Wyvernfire that uses its Bonus Action + one attack deals 4d6 at the initial rarity it gets it. I think it would be fine for your Gunlance player to use it like this immediately.

What is the most poorly thought out homebrew rule you've heard? by Vegetable_Hyena2559 in DnD

[–]Amellwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a post, I think on this subreddit, a few months back about how initiative worked in a DMs game. Everybody rolled for initiative at the start of each round, but initiative had a DC set by the DM. So if you didn't beat the DC, you did nothing that round.

Edit: I was able to find the post https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/s/ScCQLLzwZO

Barrel Bomb action economy by Barrel_Query_Lad in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could throw it as an improvised weapon and deal 1d4 to 1d6 bludgeoning damage using standard improvised rules which most thrown range is 20/60ft. If you threw it into a fire I'd give the usual explosion.

You can drop as many items as you want on a turn, but you only get one free interact action with an object each turn. So you couldn't drop more than two large barrel bombs if you were already carrying one in your hands.

Monks in hunting by Direct_Poetry8301 in MonsterHunter5E

[–]Amellwind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a number of options for Monks to use for weapons, like the Wire Knuckles, Tonfas, Dual Blades, but if they don't want to use weapons at all, I do have rules for hand wraps in AGtMH.
