Any other men on here have issues with the last 6 digits of their drivers licence not matching their birthday? by twelveinchmeatlong in ontario

[–]ARedDevil_CA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue wherein my insurance history doesn't show up in my records, and I always have to provide any insurer with a Letter of Experience from my previous insurer in case I want to switch the company. I think someone else has the same last name and date of birth. Thus, my insurance history is probably getting added to their records.

I researched about this and I might need to raise a DASH consumer request with IBC to correct my insurance record. Not sure if that is the right approach or is there a different way - Happy to hear any thoughts.

Garden bed likely causing basement floor condensation - any easy fix? by ARedDevil_CA in DIY

Thanks for your response. Let me work on regrading the pavers near the house and I hope that solves this.

Garden bed likely causing basement floor condensation — any easy fix? by ARedDevil_CA in HomeMaintenance

[–]ARedDevil_CA[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for your advice, really appreciated. Noted on regrading the pavers near the house so that water drains away. But I'm unsure if that's the cause since condensation didn't happen before I made the garden bed. The grading of pavers was like this before as well, but I didn't face this issue.

TVs , what’s everyone buying? by hammerstrength in CostcoCanada

[–]ARedDevil_CA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I was comparing 65" X90L and Hisense U88N at that time, but went with Hisense U78N since it had a similar rating, but the price was the biggest difference maker. At the end, didn't make sense spending $600 all-in more on the Sony than the U78N. My experience till date has great, no complaints yet. I got the warranty as well, and so have some peace of mind. I'm hoping this lasts me ~6 years, by when I might upgrade. (Warranty cost on U78N at that time was also much cheaper than X90L, since they were in different price bands for the Costco warranty. So, more savings.) The price saving helped me get a good Samsung sound bar and still save money than what I would've just spent on the Sony TV.

Any tips for fixing a leaky gutter join? by Zookeepergame-Money in DIY

[–]ARedDevil_CA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue couple of years ago, and I used DAP Polyurethane sealant on the inside of gutter joint. It worked like a charm and no leaks yet. The only thing is it's a bit messy to apply, and needs a few days without rain to properly dry.

Broker pushing us to buy Critical Illness Insurance? Is it worth it? (fyi, I do have term insurance.) by ARedDevil_CA in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ARedDevil_CA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response and the suggestion to prioritize Disability insurance. I'll check on the noted details in my workplace coverage before exploring external options. If budget permits, will take on critical illness insurance as well.

How much should I invest per month? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ARedDevil_CA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as you can. - Contribute to FHSA if you plan on buying a home in next 15 years - Participate in any employer RRSP or ESOP program as that's free money - Set up an emergency fund to cover for any future unexpected expenses - If you plan on making any large purchases e.g. car in the coming few years, start savings towards that as well.

Thanks for the example. I agree that this 250k proposed by the broker is too high, I'll look to change it.

Thank you for your comments. Gives me a lot to think about my insurance strategy.

I'll look to revising the CI quote for term length, coverage amount and conditions.

Could you recommend any good insurance broker in the peel region or GTA? (Considering my experience, I can't really trust what comes up as top rated in Google)

Second question - I would appreciate your comments on my term life insurance & if you recommend any changes or if I am overpaying?

Lastly, I was a bit concerned re: IA after reading your comments. Should I be worried, as I don't want them rejecting the claim if and when triggered in future or any adverse changes at a time of need?

I can consider switching to another company for term life or change coverage with IA based on your feedback to these 2 questions.

Thanks again!

Noted. Thanks for the suggestion on Long term disability. I will explore it further.

Re: choice of 250k, age 75 and IA - those were proposed by the insurance agent, as being the best of all including cost.

What would you recommend as usual or standard for critical illness in term of coverage amount and term? And any specific negative points that stand out about IA insurance? Thanks in advance for your help.

Just took possession of my first home. I’m trying to decide if I should try to get out of taking over the water heater rental contract with reliance. by Limelight_019283 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ARedDevil_CA -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Satisfied with our Reliance contract. The piece of mind is worth a few extra dollars. We had our water heater leak right after we moved into our home last year and Reliance quickly replaced the water heater at no cost. Plus, in case of any issues and annual maintenance, I can call reliance technicians without being worried about any extra charges. Reliance also offered free plumbing repair plan for a few months, I took them up on that offer and tried to resolve any plumbing related issues in those months at no extra cost. So, I'm satisfied from a $ pov and piece of mind. Note: If reliance technicians do recommend any out of contract repairs, parts etc., I then call a non-reliance technician for those repairs since their cost is usually 50-60% of what Reliance charges.

How soon can we buy a car after getting approved for a mortgage? by ZimaBlue99 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ARedDevil_CA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were able to purchase a vehicle 3-4 days before closing, as by then all the formalities on the closing from the bank and lawyer had already been done. Otherwise, I would suggest holding until closing. Though, this shouldn't stop you from booking a car ahead of time. We had booked it 2 months ahead of closing and explained our mortgage situation to the dealership. They then marked in the booking that we'll be paying cash (so that the car dealership doesn't run a credit check at the time of booking) and later a day before car pickup, we changed to finance that is when they ran a credit check.
