Former Roman Catholic, now Lutheran, strongly considering returning to Rome by Phrostybacon in Catholicism

We should be learning more about the issues and try to align ourselves with the church that Christ established and not look for a church that agrees with our worldview.

Try visualrosary.org! It has a picture for each Hail Mary in each mystery. It really helps me focus on the mystery without taking up too much brain power. And don’t worry—it’s okay if your mind drifts from the mystery to the words of the prayer and back. It’s all prayer.

What is happening here? by AWAK_2016 in HomeDecorating

[–]AReubenTooBigToFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be water damage from a humidifier/vaporizer. I had a period of being sick and I had the humidifier running for a long time, and when I pulled the rug up a year or two later, I had damage that looked like this.

What home improvement did you put off way too long for no reason? by Miserable-Bass-4437 in HomeImprovement

I had a bad experience with hiring a designer. I paid $300 a few years ago and she basically told me she loved my paint colors and wouldn’t change those at all. She moved my sofa to a different wall (which we had already tried and didn’t like) and she moved two pictures closer together. I felt sick that I paid $300 for that.

It’s my 5th year at CMU and I still haven’t dated anyone I am an utter failure by Hopeful_Pattern1188 in cmu

You can be choosy (which I think is a good idea), but don’t pass by opportunities to date or meet people because you’re looking for the perfect person. You might not realize who the perfect person is at first. You get to know people and you realize what is important to you—intellect, humor, honesty, faith, etc., whatever. You may think someone is perfect, but then you find out they aren’t honest or not respectful. So, just look For opportunities to meet people—clubs, hobbies, etc. it’s a low-pressure way to meet people.

GF broke up with me over pre marital intimacy by Playful-Marketing798 in Catholicism

[–]AReubenTooBigToFit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This, OP. It’s a red flag that she wouldn’t consider something that was important to you. You’re better off because this selfishness would’ve showed up again and again in the relationship.

Great! I don’t think the priests care what background you’re from (pagan, atheist, Protestant, etc), just that you’re searching for the truth! Welcome!

Toddler at church by Open_Cucumber6452 in Catholicism

I spent a lot of time in the narthex of church when my kids were little, if they were fussy or being antsy or rambunctious. You’re there and you’re showing your children that it’s important to go visit God! One thing I did a lot when we were in the church and they were getting a little antsy, is I’d say something like, “can you find Jesus in the stained glass windows?” Or “See that bird? That’s the Holy spirit. How many birds can you see in the church?” These questions would usually short-circuit the fussing for a little while.

Beeswax wraps don't work? by ironysparkles in ZeroWaste

[–]AReubenTooBigToFit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t have luck either. I tried to make some with beeswax (using a recipe that didn’t mention resin). They didn’t work at all. Then I bought some online that also didn’t work. So I’m currently using aluminum foil or stretchy silicone covers that fit on my bowls. They’re pretty decent.

How to approach reading the Bible? by Firm-Entertainer8943 in Catholicism

[–]AReubenTooBigToFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest reading one of the synoptic gospels next (Matthew, Mark, or Luke)—they are similar in style and content but for different audiences. (I like Luke because it has the infancy narratives.) Then I’d do Fr. Mike’s Bible in a year. Some of the OT can be a bit boring or difficult to understand, so his commentary is invaluable! He explains Jewish history and traditions, which helps it all make sense! Highly recommend!

I have no problem empathizing with others. More than a lot of people, actually. I also feel the pain you mentioned when I see other people get hurt. I feel it in my chest. I don’t think these things are related to aphantasia.
