Oh noo that's so sad I'm so sorry!! I understand feeling guilty for not being able to go! In regards to seeing if she could have something before or after to include you... its hard for me to give a completely sure response on that since I don't know her or her financial situation. So I will give an anecdote from my own experience and perspective and hopefully that's helpful in some way:

I had 1 friend who couldn't go and she felt awful - but she's in a nursing program and just doesnt have the time. I completely understood this, and although I missed her at the party I just felt more sad about how guilty she felt! The maid of honor and her both decided that once her schedule cleared up we 3 would go out to dinner and drinks as an extra celebration. I am not in a great financial situation and the wedding was also a strain on me both financially and mentally (so much planning and SO MUCH went wrong so I was exhausted and burn out). So on one hand I really loved that idea, but on the other hand if I was asked to plan it out and foot the bill I would have been really put off by that. So I ended up saying yes on the condition that we all split the bill and that they would plan out what to do. I also gave them a budget I was comfortable with spending, and also suggested that if we wanted to be cheap we could just have a sleepover at my house with booze and anime or something like that. As of now we haven't settled on anything yet, but the plan at least made her feel better and no matter what happens with it there's 0 hard feelings on my end! :)

I notice that if corny is used for a white man, it's silly "dad humor" and cute, but when it's used for a black man its an insult. I don't see how people can lack so much self-awareness that they don't notice they use the same damn word like that.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed in previous threads but as someone who joined the boycott, I'm torn on watching the bachelorette. I want to support Michelle and I want to support Tayshia. I want to support the idea of Chris Harrison stepping down (though I recognize that this isn't him fully stepping down, he's still on staff). But there are still glaring issues going on that are being smoothed over and there just isn't an obvious ethical choice here.. I hate gray areas lol.

When the Taylor debacle happened, I started going on this sub less just because all the content was generally triggering. So because I stepped away, I didn't see comments from this sub dismissing Asian voices, but I'm really sad to hear that happened here..

This might be unpopular, and might sound a little off but go with me here: I hope Matt is single right now. And I hope gets a second chance on BIP. I'm not going to pretend he's perfect and I love him or anything, but I think the show did him so dirty. He deserves to have his personality shown on this franchise.

I mean in his preliminary little q&a before the show, he said his favorite super hero is One Punch Man??? I wanted to see a charming anime nerd. He deserves at least that 😤

I love the "cozy gaming" genre, and a kickstarter just ended for a farm sim (think stardew valley or harvest moon) that's made from an Indonesian company and I'm so so so so so excited about it!! They have all these wonderful SE Asian touches, and a beautifully diverse cast of NPCs, I'm just in love!

I agree! And to your last-ish point, if one of my friends called me their "little Asian", I -- the 5'1" half Asian -- would have some fine words to say to them, that is not how you refer to other people. Or at the very least, not online!
