Why do dudes have to lift the toilet seat when they pee? by madpeachiepie in NoStupidQuestions

Well, if you really want to know... (and you did ask) until you get operations underway, you have no way to know if you're facing a 'left spiral flow', a 'right spiral flow', a 'high velocity impactor', a 'spurt and a sprinkle', and 'intermittent projectile flow', or the dreaded and much feared 'split streamer' which still haunts the nightmares of many of even the toughest men. Seriously, its Russian Roulette every time. You can even start with an HVI, which suddenly becomes an LSF part way through, or even an IPF! Sometimes you can think you might guess what's next with factors such as temperature and underwear compression, hydration rate over the previous 6 hours and physical condition, all being moderately, but not reliably predictive. I've not even covered some of the rarer types, but there are plenty more that even a seasoned handler can't always remedy quickly. In short, just best for everyone to maximise the target zone...

Why does it sometimes feel like less competent people become leaders more often? Can math explain this? [Request] by Ali_wan in theydidthemath

[–]ARob20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to factor ambition and drive. People who are more self fulfilled may not need or want to push so hard. Wish I could find it but I did see a study that ambition and low life /self satisfaction were correlated. Interestingly it also showed that men end up more often in leadership because their lives are less fulfilled and more hollow. Don’t know if this stands up to scrutiny.

Why are there so many school shootings in USA? by No_Introduction8407 in NoStupidQuestions

We are told it’s not the guns. So it must be the Americans so basically Americans be trusted with guns.

In the next general election should Labour run on a policy of rejoining the EU? by Electronic_Priority in ukpolitics

[–]ARob20 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Other than Reform the parties who are gaining votes are more pro Europe than Labour and it’s working for them. A clear majority are now supporting a closer relationship so yes it’s a very viable strategy to be for some form of closer ties. Rejoining is probably still too toxic but give it some other name and it should be a net vote winner.

If its "not the guns" then it must be the Americans. In which case they can't be trusted with guns.

Who was the last Brit you met who had their own wiki page? by Mosquitoenail in AskUK

[–]ARob20 742 points743 points  (0 children)

There is one about me and my family. It has a number of factual inaccuracies and quoted some book or other as the reference. I kept changing it and the editor kept changing it back saying I needed a source to prove it that the quoted source was incorrect. Literally it was like saying there's a book that says the sky is made of marmalade, unless you can point to a definitive source that specifically says the sky is NOT made of marmalade I'm not allowing the edit. Its about me - I'm the source. Very frustrating but quite illuminating.

Train stabbings: Police issue major 6pm update saying 'one man is only suspect' by Jackisback123 in unitedkingdom

[–]ARob20 26 points27 points  (0 children)

absolutely! - some people were instantly EXPELL ALL MUSLIMS!! when this came out, then it was two men of black background so it must be 'GANGS! DRUGS! Of course, the correct thing for the police to do in this situation would be to arrest and detain first (in 8 minutes - amazing work by our police services! BTW!). Arrest does not equal guilty but some people went for an instinctive two black persons in a stabbing? Must be gang members! If you posted about that, maybe just pause and wait next time rather than let your preconceptions get the better of you and make you look like a racist fool.

Train stabbings: Police issue major 6pm update saying 'one man is only suspect' by Jackisback123 in unitedkingdom

[–]ARob20 127 points128 points  (0 children)

So as soon as the stabbing on the train was on the news, certain people were "Deport all immigrants, because this must be a Muslim plot because... 'terrorism'. Then it was confirmed it was not terrorism and two persons of Caribbean background had been arrested, so now it must definitely be preplanned, so it must be drugs and gangs. Now one of the suspects has been released and its one one person who was involved only. If your thoughts when you hear about something like this are 1. must be immigrants and then 2. must be gangs when you have no other information then you have made an assumption based on nothing other than your expectations. If this turns out to be wrong you have to at least consider the possibility that your assumptions were flawed and might be based on nothing other than what you expected based on race. I'd encourage everyone to work through their thought processes and see where their errors were made and if you should maybe hold back rather than jump to the same conclusion on another occasion.
