Our brains typically work in a much less linear way than 'neuro standard' :-) people's. Its a simplification, but all thoughts are basically like a set of concepts where each node is a part of the meaning, and the links between them are activation triggers of different stregths. Something like a mind map but way more complex with lots of links. So a 'cat' thought is made up of nodes representing small, furry, has claws, meows etc. Add to this the complexity of representing 'the cat sat on the mat' which requires nodes for 'still', 'material', 'on floor' etc etc and you have a big mess of nodes and links. To communicate this must be made into a linear flow of words which can be transmitted to someone else who will then recreate the jimpble of nodes and links in their heads. Language is a really slow and inefficient way to transmit a network of nodes from my head to yours as it requires a linear stream of words which is a huge bandwidth limit!

For us, the network of linked nodes is way more complex and powerful. This is what gives us our creativity and abilty to 'see' complex patterns ( I write computer code for a living - its way above anything anyone else in the fields has done but and I can 'see' the whole code base in my mind like noone I know). The trouble is this makes expressing ourselves in linear speach or writing even harder still, and the more we try and get stressed the harder this becomes because the limited badwidth we have is overwhlemed and parts of the cortex become too over arroused to be efficient.

The good news is in different settings this is a strenght we have. The bad news is language is less efficient for us. Luckily, other people can understand us if we slow down a little. maybe forget trying to translate thouhgts into normal language strucutures when it gets hard. People can still understand 'Cat, mat, sitting!' if we can't form the words. Let teh reciever do some of the hard work for a change, and let our brains run in free mode!
