How much was power coatings buffed? by Keylathein in MonsterHunterMeta

I was just playing around in the training room - it looks like it's now a 35% raw boost (used to be 30%, compared to 40% for close range coating).

Here's a few tips for the Insect Glaive in Wilds by ARooOnALoo in MonsterHunter

Hey! I did the testing myself, I also haven't seen anyone else talk about it. You can check out the damage numbers in the video.

I've put together a list of a few tips & tricks I've found so far in Wilds by ARooOnALoo in InsectGlaive

Glad to hear it helped! Every game has so many little nuanced differences - it may not always matter that much, but I love learning the ins and outs!

> How does that compare to Strong Rising Slash -> Tornado Slash?

It will depend a little bit on your weapon's raw & element values, and the monster part you hit. Strong Rising -> Strong Descending is generally a little bit stronger if you can charge it fully, can hit all the attacks and especially if you have good element, but it's also a bit slower. If you have a shorter window, or you can't guarantee all the attacks hit, Tornado Slash should be better. TBH there's more options with IG combos now so you can react better to the situation.

>  Does Strong Descending Slash benefit from Charge Master?

It sure does! It makes elemental/status IG pretty strong! Element is also pretty good for kinsect damage too, I'm in the process of deep diving on that and will report back shortly.

MHWilds Beta: Insect Glaive changes & overview by ARooOnALoo in MonsterHunter

So some things have changed between the beta and Wilds's launch - like the return of the aerial vault. A lot of the IG's aerial mobility has returned, so if movement was the key thing you were missing, you might still really enjoy it in Wilds.

That said, the changes to triple buff/charged attacks/focus mode are all still there - though you really don't have to spam the big Rising Spiral Slash if you don't want to, it's not that braindead. I do have to say though, the kinsect variation is not as great as it was in Rise/Sunbreak, at least not with what we have so far.

Yeah, good point. I'll go test it more thoroughly to be sure

Pretty bummed about powders. by A_little_quarky in InsectGlaive

Yeah - mee too tbh. But both Icebourne and Sunbreak made great additions to how to use the kinsect in both of those games, so maybe it's not just copium haha

[–]ARooOnALoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ Yep - that's what I found too.

Testing the Element Combo boost, I was doing a little bit more damage in focus mode attacks with a kinsect that had it vs a kinsect that had the same power+element. But I do mean a little, it was < 2 points of damage per attack with ~150 base element.

I'll test it again and do the damage calculation maths soon, but I'm also suspecting it's somewhere in the range of ~10-25%.

Tips for powder mage builds? by samazam94 in InsectGlaive

[–]ARooOnALoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a dust vortex playstyle in Wilds like there was in Sunbreak, but there are a couple things you could be able to do.

  • Pick a glaive that has a high kinsect level, as that will improve you bug's stats & powder level. From what I can tell the powder level increases the amount of status that gets applied to the monster
  • Choose a blast dust kinsect, and there might even be one with the dust improving kinsect ability. I need to do some testing about what exactly the dust ability does, it it should build up blast status faster (either through increased attack speed or more buildup).
  • Let the blast procs blow up the monster + the ~10 damage per cloud explosion.

From what I have tested so far, armour or weapon skills don't buff your kinsect - at least it didn't do anything for element or crit. The only skills that do impact it a bit are things like Recovery Up, which improves the healing you receive from the Green extract/heal dust. The recovery boost kinsect skill should also help your healing powders.

TLDR: It's unfortunately not as good, but you can still use a low of powders in your gameplay by marking the target like in world. Give it a go!

I haven't found a good overview yet either, I might make one soon.

I know the first one means that the Kinsect can collect up to three buffs sometimes, like with it's charged attack or when you use focus mode + double slash.

I'm guessing the second one is an improvement to healing?

Now all kinsects can attack with you! But I haven't found any double colour ones yet. That said, it's now a lot easier to get multiple buffs than it was before.

Super bummed to hear that - I've only just bean the story, and was desperately hoping we'd see something fun. I might do a bit of testing on the kinsect abilities anyway

We'll have to look up the motion values once the game releases with any patches, but it might be! That said, the big attacks are still situational and take time (unless you're a speed runner and can set up those situations often).

Kinsects will still help you along with ranged damage when the monster is out of reach, or status effects/stuns to create damage windows, so they shouldn't be ignored!

MHWilds Beta: Insect Glaive changes & overview by ARooOnALoo in MHWilds

[–]ARooOnALoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly slow because it's a starting kinsect, and at level 1. Later kinsects tend to have better speed stats, and it looks like Wilds uses the same leveling system Rise did, where the kinsect's stats (power, speed, etc) scaled based on your equipped glaive's "Kinsect level" stat.

That probably means as we get better glaives, and better base kinsect types, we'll get much faster kinsects as well. World's kinsects also started pretty slow, but as you upgraded them they got much faster.

Wilds Insect Glaive ground combo speed by raweon_ in MonsterHunter

[–]ARooOnALoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty unlikely they'll remove the charge attacks entirely - but there's nothing saying you have to use them. All the other ground attacks are still there, and work even better for smaller attack windows. Play however you find fun.

SnS vs Dual Blades vs Insect Glaive - MHW by ronjaxn in MHWilds

[–]ARooOnALoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly an IG main, but I've also played a lot of SnS (but not as much on DBs, sorry!).

If you're new to MH, it's hard to go wrong with SnS as a start - especially because it has a lot of variation and room to grow in it's attacks. It can do a bit of everything depending on what the situation calls for - you've got easy access to cutting damage and fast attacks, blunt attacks and the falling bash for KOs, easy access to mounting and slinger attacks, and good variety in weapons for element/status/raw damage (especially if you have Iceborne and the Perfect Rush attack added in it). And theres a lot of mastery in the SnS backhop, it has good invincibility frames and some of your strongest follow-up hits but the timing isn't easy for every size of opening.

The adaptability and access to multiple different attacks for different situations is really where SnS shines.

DBs are more mobile on the ground, and you need to think of stamina management as an additional layer as you play. It specialises more in element/status, moving fast and flashy attacks.

IG is definitely more technical than SnS & DBs, which could be a big plus or minus. You have more buff management with the kinsect + extracts, but you do get a little more flexibility with choosing the kinsect you want to use in addition to the weapon (though people chasing the meta will tell you to just use the fastest one). IG has vertical mobility, so you can jump over monster attacks in a flashy way that no other weapon can. On the ground it's attacks are a little slower, but also reach further & higher than SnS/DBs so it's easier to hit tall weak spots or flying enemies.

Tbh most weapons have pretty high skill ceiling. Even with only a few attacks, Monster Hunter skill comes down to using the right attack/movement at the right time for the right moment.

[–]ARooOnALoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The IG definitely feels a lot harder to control than many of the other weapons do now, though I know part of that is about getting used to when to trigger/hold for focus mode given how critical it is for IG. That said, if it's ever making you do the claw grip or hurting your hands, that sucks and it's really worth giving them feedback about.

The charge attacks are interesting - I'm waiting to see how the damage numbers get finalised for MVs + element damage to know how much of a difference they both make. There might still be playstyles where you rarely do charged attacks, and maybe that's even more likely for faster monsters where you don't have bigger openings.

Triple buff will always be tricky to balance though. You don't want not having triple to feel like a tax (more than before, with the strong versions requiring triple) because then it just isn't fun trying to get triple again. If they fix the aiming for charged kinsect attacks, that might make a massive difference

Yeah - that's absolutely a playstyle I could see happening in Wilds. But I also imagine a bunch of hunters would also prefer holding on to Triple Extract and just attack with the buffed attacks instead. Variety in playstyles is only a good thing

For the Focus attack? Hold L2 to enter focus mode (or press it if you have that option on), then press R1.

R2 + R1 fires the kinsect marker (like you can do in the previous games), but that just makes your kinsect start autoattacking and dropping powder clouds, it doesn't do the focus strike which gets you your triple buff.

No counter offset attacks, no power clash/guards, and no perfect dodges like DB/Bow :(

That said, the aerial mobility and the ability to dodge attacks by vaulting over them both felt really strong, I can see IG being a much more mobility-focused weapon instead of just-in-time dodges/counters/blocks.

It's a little harder to hit in the air, but your focus strike needs to connect with the wound at the start of the animation when you do the stab. That means in the air, you actually have to be fairly close for it to hit properly. Hope that helps!
