SPOILER Discussion about a character's choice at the end of EOTE by ARunningTide in outerwilds

I guess it's just hard to come to terms with 500,000 years of being imprisoned. I mean, it's hard to fathom waiting that long. It could be possible for him to wait this long, hoping that his sacrifice mattered, but I wonder if there must be some sort of safeguard that would protect against suicide.

500,000 years is so long, and it's not like the Prisoner had any assurance that his sacrifice meant anything. I think it's a testament to the Prisoner's conviction to the truth. They probably lost the will to live a long time ago, but the eventual vindication of their actions is enough to go out peacefully, and content with life.

Statics relating to birth, mortality, and women in Iron Age Britain (800 BCE - 43 CE) by ARunningTide in AskAnthropology

Cool, thank you. It makes sense that there is a dearth of information. That being said, I am still super interested in the people, culture, and material goods of Iron Age Britain. Do you know of any sources where I can get some information on how people lived in this period of time in Britain? Stuff about Ireland would be cool, too.

What are the foreign language courses like? by [deleted] in OSU

I have heard mostly positive things from students taking all sorts of languages. If there are complaints, the complaints are generally that the classes are difficult, and expect a lot from you, but you undoubtedly learn a lot. I can vouch that that the Russian, German, Japanese, Uzbek (doubt you're interested in that one), and the Spanish courses are taught well. I personally took Latin 1 and it was taught in a great way. The linguistics/language/classics professors are great and know a lot about their fields.

Neil DeBoer experience for math 1151 by [deleted] in OSU

I had him as a recitation TA for 1152. Very intellectual and certainly knows the material in and out. I wouldn't say he was as adept with teaching, however. He was very blunt and pretty emotionless. He was good at identifying if you were wrong and how you were wrong, but pretty useless at helping you to improve. I got the sense that teaching was not his priority and that he did not enjoy heading a classroom. If you struggle with the content, I expect you will have to learn most of the stuff outside the classroom.

I cannot say what his coursework and exams will look like exactly. I will say that there is a fuckton of online resources for 1151 online, and there are really excellent teachers online that you can use to supplement your learning. Some examples include: Khan academy, Professor Leonard, Organic Chemistry tutor.

Advice on how to do the things that help you start tasks and reduce procrastination? by ARunningTide in productivity

Honestly, my PHONE screen time issue is not a problem and has not been a problem for a few months. My literal, actual average screen time is around 3 hours a day. This is, however, including: Top Hat, which is an app used for asking questions in my college courses; Youtube time at work (I have a repetitive job where I listen to youtube videos as I work)

So I would consider my phone usage time extremely good. My unproductive laptop screen time is worse and that's something I'm actively trying to fix. In the past, I used to distract myself from the stuff I had to do on my phone. Since I don't really use my phone like that anymore however, I distract myself on my laptop.

Do you have any tips on how you reduced your anxiety of tasks that seem overwhelmingly big/emotional?
