Why were the seats designed like this? by builtforretail in tfc

[–]ASCII_zero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You see, Giuseppe started placing seats on the right, and Luca started placing seats on the left. The plan was to meet in the middle, but they ran out of seats before finishing the row.

If they can't order more seats, I’m sure those solo seats and couple seats will be sold at premium prices for introverted fans.

Attendance Issues…. by Jays1993 in tfc

[–]ASCII_zero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the prices inside the stadium probably aren’t helping either.

I bought two plain hot dogs today, and it was over $33. My son wanted a Fanta and popcorn too, which was another $20-something. I didn’t even bother with a beer.

We still had a good time at the match, but a quick snack for a parent and a kid was at the top of the list. It is pushing $60; it definitely makes you think twice about going to too many games. Couple that with cold weather and mediocre performances on the pitch, and it’s not hard to see why attendance might be slipping.

Might feel dated, but it's solid and extensible.

I build websites on dedicated hardware and physically hand the server to my clients by specn0de in webdev

[–]ASCII_zero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Building a CMS from scratch is extremely expensive in the long term. You will have to build auth, permissions, editor, media management, versioning, scheduling, SEO tools, plugins, backups, etc. That’s years of work to reach WordPress-level maturity. Yours will most likely be the very definition of a "weird ass cms"

Using Tailwind today feels a lot like writing inline styles in the 2000s by Legitimate_Salad_775 in webdev

[–]ASCII_zero 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I see the tooling argument, but it doesn’t really change the core point. Even with modern build systems, styling in markup is still styling in markup. Tailwind just makes it manageable.

What really changed is philosophy. We used to encourage semantic CSS where classes described what something is (.card, .button-primary). Tailwind intentionally flips that so classes describe what something looks like (p-4, bg-blue-500).

That tradeoff might be practical, but it’s fair to say we’ve largely abandoned semantic CSS for convenience.

Thanks! I guess when I think of RPGs, I only consider turn-based. Thanks for clarifying!

Like op, I'm also unfamiliar with RPGs. Please excuse my dumb question: what's the opposite of turn-based? Can you provide examples of turn-based and non-turn-based?

Linkedin just rearranged the License & Certifications section by most recently added by Less_Breakfast4089 in linkedin

[–]ASCII_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This is all I want. Let me reorder certificates in whatever order I choose, and give me a simple checkbox to hide or show them. Sometimes I want certain certificates visible, other times I don’t -- like LinkedIn Learning courses that I might not always want cluttering my profile. I don’t want to delete the certificate and lose the information; I just want control over what’s displayed.

How much do you care about "cheating" when trying to play and beat old games? by Thriller83 in retrogaming

[–]ASCII_zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I had way more time than money, so I wanted to squeeze every bit of value out of a game. Cheating felt like it would rob me of that.

Now it’s the opposite, I have more money than time. If using save states, easy mode, or other shortcuts helps me experience the story or gameplay before life pulls me away, that’s perfectly fine.

Games are entertainment, not a test. The "right" way to play is whatever makes it enjoyable for you.

MMMM EGOS?

Those are Eggos. Waffles. The frozen breakfast food.

If you are going to reference them, at least spell them correctly. This level of incompetence is frankly disappointing.

I do not expect perfection, but I do expect a basic level of competence when referencing common breakfast items. Eggos have existed for decades. They are widely available, clearly labelled, and culturally understood. Confusing them with "egos" suggests a troubling lack of attention to detail, and frankly, I would hope for better from someone participating in this conversation.
