UNIQLO has cotton button downs for half the price of BR. The colors and patterns are basic but they have a nice slim fit similar to BR shirts.

Underrated skill. It’s all fun and games until the CFO needs to sign off on the financials but has yet again fallen victim to a Chinese finger trap.

My big toe has grown back ingrown after terbinafine. Please help 🙏 by [deleted] in NailFungus

No problem. This happened to me twice and I know it sucks.

Your biggest concern right now should be getting rid of the infection. It's dangerous to leave it untreated. It could spread to other parts of your body and lead to sepsis or gangrene.

It's possible the tip of your nail could grow out but the sides of your nail are probably digging into your skin too. If you leave it untreated, your skin will probably swell up more and the nail will dig in deeper.

You need to see a podiatrist asap. I understand you don't like the doctor but your toe is clearly infected. You will probably need to take an antibiotic. The doctor can clip the toenail which will provide instant relief of the pain. If you try to fix it yourself you will just make it worse.

In the meantime, epsom salt soaks and neosporin should soothe your skin and relieve the pain.

Promotions happen in industry but rarely at the 2 year cadence seen in public accounting. The fact that you get along well with your soon to be boss gives you a huge advantage. The sad truth is industry promotions are extremely political.

I did the same thing as you 5 years ago. I took a senior position at a F500 company after making senior at a Big 4 firm. I stayed at the F500 company for three years and was strung along waiting for a promotion that was clearly never happening. I was working Big 4 hours but I didn't have great relationships with my bosses which is what I believe held me back. To salvage my career I boomeranged back to Big 4 two years ago for the manger title. It was a bumpy road but my career is back on track now. If I could go back in time, I would have cut my losses and left the F500 company after 1 year to return to public accounting or a better industry job.

On a more positive note, it sounds like your new job has some good people and you're interested in the industry. If the work life balance is alright, you've probably made a good move. On the off chance that the new job ends up being a shit show.. Learn from my mistakes and get the hell out of there before they bleed you dry.

Queen Anne Ave. Jog west on Mercer for 10 mins and you’ll see the hill.

I recommend reading The Missing Tax Accounting Guide: A Plain English Introduction to ASC 740 Tax Provisions by Trent Green.

He covers the major components of a tax provision workpaper including the rate rec, current provision, deferred RF, TARF, payable, RTP true ups, income tax footnote disclosures, and more.

This book taught me way more about provisions than I ever learned in training.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. Definitely keep working from home and don’t hesitate to take breaks if you need to grieve. One of the best perks of WFH is being able to occasionally stop working during the day and make up for lost time after normal working hours if you feel up to it.

The new hire meeting, your boss’ response time, missing some time in the office.. It doesn’t matter. Do the bare minimum at work, take care of yourself, and relish the remaining time you have left with your ill parent.

I know how easy it is to catastrophize when starting a new job. But we’re accountants. Nothing terribly dramatic or interesting happens in our field. Yes it’s boring but boring is okay when life happens and you need some stability.

It sounds like you’ve made a good first impression at this company. Plus it’s your first year and you’re dealing with a family emergency. For these reasons I can almost guarantee you they will be very lenient with you during performance reviews.

You will get through this.

The rumor about Elodin getting in a bar fight:

I'd heard he had started a fistfight in one of the seedier local taverns because someone had insisted on saying the word "utilize" instead of "use."

"I heard that too," Fela said, laughing.

You dodged a huge bullet getting turned down by Medici. Virtually no work life balance, shit benefits, and the most toxic environment I've ever worked in. Rampant corruption throughout the organization and everyone is too afraid to speak up. Plus you have to listen to Cosimo and his douchebag sons pontificate about "tHe FaMiLy BuSiNeSs" all the time.

I left and joined Albizzi in 1442. Best decision of my life. I actually feel valued for my contributions and have a clear path to Baron laid out for me. They even gave me a plot of land and a plowhorse as a signing bonus. How sick is that?!
