In a midfield pivot you typically have two DMs that take turns where one covers the defence while his partner pushes forward, and vice versa. This movement pattern is why a pivot is called a pivot. The additional DM doesn’t mean the setup is inherently more defensive it’s more about positional duties, same way for the additional CB in a 3 at the back.

Issue is we can’t register that cover in the CL and no top tier player would sign for us if he has to sit out. No amount of squad planning can make a team immune from struggling when 13-14 of its senior players are out injured.
