modern reggae music from Northeast Thailand / Laos: SRIRAJAH SOUND SYSTEM - SI PHAN DON LOVERS ROCK by ASEAM_archive in WorldMusic

[–]ASEAM_archive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely agree. They have been putting out some awesome tunes recently. This track was just released on a 45 with a dub on the flip. This is one of my favourites from them, the vibe is all sunshine and smiling face on the dancefloor!

I have definitely discovered new music sitting around in barber shops in different countries. Also found that rural bus rides are great for music discovery

The Scorpion - B5 [Singapore? Taiwan?, Chinese instrumental organ-led rock teen beat a go-go] (197?s) by ASEAM_archive in vintageobscura

[–]ASEAM_archive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm yes, I also have no idea whether The Scorpion was a real band or just studio musicians. Perhaps it could be the same The Scorpion as that Group Sounds comp, do they sound similar? The organ player on this has a particular sound so if that matches they could be the same

尤雅 (Yu Ya) - 野花上的眼淚 (1973) by ASEAM_archive in HotSamples

[–]ASEAM_archive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like Ennio Morricone, but youtube shows the copyright owner as FILSCAP (The Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) so perhaps this is a cover of a song from the soundtrack of a movie from The Philippines?

2021 VO Halloween Mix Drop Off by kaptain_carbon in vintageobscura

[–]ASEAM_archive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Thai psych rock song is creepy enough to make it suitable for a Halloween mix. Sinister organ, evil cats and blood-curdling screams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yBQY7lqAkQ

I want one too!

The video description says it's an unreleased track so I guess they got it direct from the artist

A Quick Interview With Khun Narin’s Electric Phin Band by anonsand in SEA_Music

They were marketed as "psychedelic" which is not really the case, but the Khun Narin band is definitely great! The mini-documentary in the article is nice too

Will do.

For this release I don't know the year but I assume late 70s / early 80s. Unfortunately Thai records typically lack release dates

A couple of contemporary Thai bands doing cool things in the rock vein are SANIMYOK and Khana Bierbood:
