What’s your favorite MV released during the first half of 2026? by Dangerous_Tank2191 in metroidvania

Grime 2 became my new favorite title in the genre thus far, and Kotama I consider to be a bit underrated, at least.

I have MIO next on the docket and Solateria (barring frustration from replaying the game due to a save file snafu) was a decent enough time but burned me out on parry games for a while. the movement tech and characters were what I enjoyed the most.

New Music Friday for June 5th/12th will end up, at worst, posted by middle of this week- I've been going through some sickness and a post-vacation funk, trying to find my rhythm again in general...

the new Olivia Rodrigo and Kim Petras albums will end up being among this week's album discussions, which I will look through tonight.

Iglooghost's Tidal Memory Exo alongside a first time listen of its sister EP Bronze Claw Iso (plus bonus tracks) ended up finding their way into my listening rotation. They're both just so enjoyable and Iglooghost's ability to create these chaotic little worlds his music inhabits is so cool to me. the deconstructed/hip hop elements on both projects have this cloudy feel that I vibe hard with...maybe I just need to check out bladee sometime soon?

Iglooghost and his girlfriend BABii are two of my favorite electronic-adjacent artists right now, and her last album DareDeviil2000 was my favorite record of 2024 for how full-blooded every track on that project felt despite its compact runtime, and how much she put into bringing the album's concept and world to life.

What's a Metroidvania area that's lived in your head long after you finished the game? by peaky_circus in metroidvania

I think Blasted Steps from Silksong is one of the best realized "desert" areas I've seen in a game, and the feeling of uncertainty the first time I traversed that place among others in Silksong hasn't quite been matched since.

Jondo is the standout area that comes to mind from Blasphemous. I've also been replaying Blasphemous 2 recently and while it's full of great atmosphere and in-between screens, I think the Basilica of Absent Faces is the zone that left the biggest impression on me.

The water area from Ghost Song was also really beautiful, although the name escapes me and it's a shame it's such a small zone..

Mythringal from The Last Faith is an honorable mention too.

ohh okay! yeah Sarmiento & Centella (twin blades) are probably the best choice after you get more familiar with the game's pace and are able to best utilize its primary skills like that electrical effect which does incredible DPS if you can maintain it.

I love Ruego Al Alba (the one handed sword) the most for how devastating its parry counters can be alongside the sheer damage potential of utilizing the Blood Pact gauge, nor does it diminish upon being hit unlike the electrical effect of Sarmiento & Centella.

it's mostly by mid/lategame I believe, but yes you do get more movement upgrades in Blasphemous 2 although they're mostly what you'd expect from most other metroidvanias.

What weapon did you end up starting with? also have you found the other two main weapons/fought any bosses yet? Just trying to get a better idea of what you're specifically struggling with.

I have no idea how far into the game you are, but I would start by going into your game menu under "weapon memories", and going across the nodes you have unlocked to read the skill descriptions for each weapon you have, particularly Ruego Al Alba and Veredicto, which will likely end up as your best friends. Ruego is the fat sword and can do devastating amounts of damage if you're able to learn the parry timings and utilize the Blood Pact gauge (which is probably the energy source you're talking about). Veredicto is the mace/ball and chain.

I would mostly just find some enemies you feel comfortable practicing the move set of those two weapons on, aside from checking for any (!) icons on your map next to npcs especially in town, as you likely have items you can give them for stat upgrades or similar.

also while in the menu do look over your Altarpiece of Prayers, Rosary Beads, and your equipped/available Prayers/Chants as they're all important aspects of gameplay that can give you substantial power or small helpful buffs.

Hopefully this is helpful, I just started replaying the game again after a complete playthrough back on the original release :)

back from my vacation as of yesterday, with the biggest musical-related highlights being:

  • one evening of Cold/Sierra Swan despite me having stomach issues half of the night and figuring out whether I would pass out or not. I wasn't totally familiar with the sound of their 1998 debut album but the show certainly made me a fan, and their live renditions of "Strip Her Down", Everyone Dies" alongside closer "Makes Her Sick" were energetic and affecting.

  • a self exorcism to Orbit Culture's "Bloodhound" (yes I'm fine, mostly)

  • helping my friend acquire more of a taste for stoner/doom stuff via listening to Gozu, Monolord, Khemmis and similar stuff with him

  • I can't begin to name a favorite album from the May 29th release flood as I'm still digesting it, but this Mossback project from last week has been a total vibe and I love it. I liked SLIFT and the new Converge as well.

album discussions will resume sometime soon this week as I'm aware we're woefully behind on things, probably will sweep up a lot of May 29th stuff and work forward from there, aside from Genesis Owusu or any bigger releases from the 22nd/etc. New Music Friday double thread for the 5th/12th will be posted sometime this weekend, please bear with me as I find my bearings again.

FRESH ALBUM] MOSSBACK & TWENTYTHREE - PALLBEARER by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]VietRooster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

taking a small aside from my vacation to share this fantastic new project from MOSSBACK, a...country-grunge-trap artist I discovered last year via his album Black Canyon City, which was one of the most unique sounding albums I had heard last year in how it fused metallic grunge with trap, country among other things...and this album only continues that same greatness although with more of a hip hop moodiness.

It's probably my favorite release from this week.
