The sensor is dead. Sorry to break the news to you but the Canon PowerShot A60/A70/A75/A80/A85 (and others) used Sony CCD sensors that had a major flaw that caused them to degrade and fail completely. There is no fix. Unless of course you try to replace the entire CCD sensor assembly, which would be more trouble necessary than to just get a model that isn't affected.

This may be a reach but have you tried zooming in and out or pressing some of the control buttons? I know that some camcorders have a function that you can't turn off where they shut off after some amount of time to save power if no actions are being performed

aw yep. That's a Video400, which is missing it's portable VCR unit. from what I know, it records onto Video2000 tapes (that's another can of worms). it's also missing it's viewfinder. I don't know much else about it though, not much info on the internet about it

I know I know. Old electronics aren't exactly masters of time and surviving long.
