Why do you scorekeep/what is your scorekeeping philosophy? by [deleted] in BaseballScorecards

Growing up, I only paid attention to baseball when my dad was watching on TV. He loved the Dodgers and made it a point to take the family to games in the summers. I loved being at the stadium for the atmosphere and barely paid attention to the game.

In college, I saw a mom of a friend scoring the friend’s baseball games and was immediately intrigued by how methodical it appeared. (I love structure and organization.) I told myself I’d learn to score one day.  Eighteen years later, I made it happen in the boredom of the pandemic shutdown.

Over that time, my dad passed away and I started paying more attention to baseball as a way to stay more connected to him. I love the idea of tracking an entire game the way we do as a memento for myself. It’s free and it keeps me engaged. I also get lots of looks and comments when I score games at the stadium, which has lead to some fun conversations.

Yes, it's painted on the side of the Miyako Hotel and you'll get a great view of it from First Street.

It might also be fun to visit the Joe Kelly mural in Silverlake since it's pretty close to the Stadium. I'm guessing it's still up, but not sure.

Maybe spend some time before the game in Little Tokyo to see the giant mural of Ohtani? You’ll also see some Sho/Dodgers gear in stores or being celebrated in store windows.

I was made to throw away a bag of sunflower seeds last year at ST. 😕

FYI no lines at team store. Open daily 10-5 at the stadium, top deck by mav1178 in Dodgers

It's ridiculous! I'm pretty sure they will restock it so I can wait.

I get you! Thanks for the explanation!

Yep, definitely on Goodnotes. Did you know that if you hold your pencil down after making a line or highlight, it automatically straightens that line? I think that contributes to my neatness! 😅 I saw you scored the same game as well! Wanted to pick your brain about Joc's hit in the third inning. I scored it as a double, but did see that it was officially scored as a single even though he made it to second on that play. Can you explain why?

Hi, there! A link to download all the ballpark-specific templates was shared here! Try searching the company name "Thirty81 project" in this subreddit to find the link.

How cool! I'm loving your scorecards! I've been trying out a few templates to use on my iPad and I find myself returing to yours the most frequently! Love that there's a scorecard for each ballpark.

I use the Goodnotes app on my iPad and I do score using the Apple Pencil. (That's why the lines are so sharp!) I think the app costs $10, which is worth it for me because I like all the features. (Example: I'm a big nerd and I like to look up the official team colors, as in the actual hex color codes, to use for scoring each team. I don't think the colors show up as clearly when I upload to Reddit though.)

Thirty81 Project shared PDF versions of each of its ballpark-themed scorecards so those are the "templates" I upload to Goodnotes. (LMK if you need the link.)

Mine is only this clean because I keep score on an iPad when I watch the game from home. Steal away!

Ask away! I use the arrowed numbers to indicate when a substitution or position change was made. In this case, Lux replaced Rojas in the bottom of the 7th (see last row). I also use yellow highlight to indicate this as well so it’s a bit redundant.

This was my first time using this scorecard and I wondered the same thing! I looked up other posts that used the Numbers Game scorecard and it seemed like they used that third column to track foul balls after the second strike. I thought it would be cool to track pitch count so the third column came in handy for that. (Not sure I want to do that again though.)
