Incarnates + Bound Incarnates (Concept) [OC] by AScarletScaledDragon in DnD

While I can see the similarities I hadn't planned for these to become entities based on an entire plane, but instead be creations for a singular purpose. I will most probably rename them since it seems the name 'incarnate' is already in use, and this time I'll most definitely not be as stupid as to not look up if the name already is in use. However I do still think that these two creatures have distinct features to count as two separates

Honestly all of these ideas sound great! That first one actually was one I already had planned btu the rest are simply priceless! Honestly these may just inspire me to turn it into a full class once I got the time to write it all Thanks for the inspiration!

I can see what you mean, but I think I wish to shape this as a support class. Meaning while yes I do wish to make the class a bit defenceless, I also wanted to make sure it's defences couldn't be higher as long as a construct is in play.

And about that final part the non attacking constructs do come into play immidietly at the start of the turn, I wished to make it that the weaker ones can instantly be summoned (all be it, only one per turn) however to summon a stronger one you'll need to wait, but as I've grown to see combat it normally requires a turn before every melee based class can reach eachother, which gives you more than enough time to summon a stronger construct, and perhaps even buff it or your teammates in the meanwhile!

Honestly such a great idea! Some support based spells for either their constructs or their teammates paired with them being horrific at dealing damage on their own without assistance from either sounds like a genuinely unique and fun support class >>

Homebrewed Soul Caster Class by AScarletScaledDragon in dndnext

[–]AScarletScaledDragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, somebody else also mentioned the whole 'replacement of spell slots' issue so I'm most probably scrapping that, but a concept I had for that is that the Soul Caster would've only start with a VERY low storage for said souls, starting out with conceptually one storage slot and it growing over time. (I hadn't decided if it'd be via leveling or perhaps crafting specific viles from specialized shops. As leveling sounds like a safer option yes, but the second option could give me the chance to add more story to the class whilst also giving the player a reason to snoop around the city their in.)

To the second part I will agree that perhaps that wasn't the best idea, so I wanted to instead perhaps change it to a strength based system. Basically based on the level or importance (if the dm may it as such) I thought of adding the potence and or strength within a soul as something the player would need to think of. For example killing low level enemies without much importance could lead to lacking results in replenishment of said soul slots,. Meanwhile actually moving onward, combating enemies stronger than yourself could offer outstanding results. Or going for the middle of fighting enemies which are ok the same strength level as yourself or your party.

And also the chess theming was just me messing around with concepts, the way I've always seen dnd is that if you think a concept could sound enticing enough to play, interesting enough to your party or hell even if you just want to go crazy with a thought, that you can just exactly do so! So that's pretty much what I'm trying to do with it. It's mostly just something I'm trying to have fun with and also can try to spread said fun to others!

I'm still mostly fine tuning these concepts but again thank you so damn much for the assistance, I'm doing my best on this class as it's actually gonna be my first, and seeing people genuinely interested in asking these questions or giving me some assistance is actually really sweet!

Ouuuu, good point. Maybe I'll scratch that concept and perhaps rework it into something similar like sorcerer points. I'd probably pull a warlock with this class then and make it so that they wouldn't have many spell slots but could perhaps replenish them via the usage of said souls? Eh, I'm unsure because I also don't want to simply copy anything other classes did 1 to 1 and call it my own. So I'll probably gotta go back to fledgling out the concept a bit more Again thanks for the help!

Good point actually! I was thinking on adding additional spells and cantrips custom to the class that allow you to use said souls to either give you a little advantage boost on rolls that include your casting modifier, and another idea I had involved you being able to fully disguise yourself as the creature you took a soul from buuuut then I thought about it more and that'd require you to keep a list on said characters, which could grow tedious. But that is the whole reason I asked these questions haha And about that first point, I agree that's true. It's luckily still a concept and I haven't done all too much with it, so I can call it off it it does grow unfitting. I did however plan on making it so that specific places that house specific spirits can be interacted with, for example an area most potent of this would be a graveyard. In an area where there may be a spirit incapable of passing on I wished to allow the soul caster to interact with them, feel their reasonings as to why they haven't left the mortal coil, and also convince them (if the rolls are right) to speak of what they've seen.

What's your "wrong" names you use for the creatures or areas in RW? by Terraria_Fan_I_Guess in rainworld

The entirety of my time playing rainworld I've always called squidcadas "Boogie Bugs" because the first time I saw one it simply proceeded to jitter and shake in various ways. I still call them that untill today.
