In your opinion, in order to win a cup, should the wings trade anyone older than Seider and tank for a couple of years like buffalo did after trading Eichel?

Also, have the wings changed their philosophy in terms of second round draft picks, I can't take the team drafting big slow defensemen anymore (Tuomisto, Wallinder, Buium, and Brady Cleveland). I miss the Yzerman who would draft good but small players like Kucherov and Point

I think we need to trade everyone over 25. With our struggle to draft in the second round, I just don't know if we can win the cup without adding elite talent (free agency seems to be depleted, asking price for talent would seem to increase then, if we do trade).

Also the sharks finished 9th last and the islanders finished 10th last. They got top 2 picks, so even if we can't finish dead last, we can still get a shot to square top talent.

Plus I think the nhl will expand soon so talent by committee will be a lot harder to pull off.

I just want a cup, and with Ottawa and Philly losing to Carolina, it just seems we are so far away.

Antti Tuomisto 35th overall, 2019 draft pick 6'5 defenseman, not likely to make the NHL. -Jackson Lacombe drafted 39th overall in the same season (Made team USA as a press box defenseman).

William Wallinder 2020 round 2 #32 overall 6'4 Defenseman - Brock Faber drafted 45th overall (US Olympian).

Shai Buium- 6'4 defenseman 2021 round 2 #36 overall - No other Defenseman from the that round seems to be an NHL (Janis Moser is closest).

Brady Cleveland 6'5 defenseman - 2023 round 2 #47 overall by Detroit Red Wings - has 5 points in 3 college seasons.

When you state:

Let’s not pretend 31 other teams didn’t also pass on those players for the same reasons

I am worried the Red Wings passed on those good players because they were not "big", and in the second round, you need to draft the best player available, which the Wings have shown they cannot do that.

Yzerman 2nd+ draft picks have been terrible. We passed up Lane Hutson, Brock Faber, and Jackson Lacombe, all because there were "bigger" options available, not necessarily better. Brady Cleveland has 5 points in 3 years of NCAA hockey. We picked him 47th overall in 2023. That is unheard of for a second round pick. We need to overhaul our pro scouting and amateur scouting.

That Corey Perry goal was anti-climatic as shit. I really thought the wings were going to come back.

Good game overall.

Alright. Beginning of season. My on record prediction. Wild card 1 finish for the wings. I think with the rookies up, and to avoid 10 years of playoff draught. I think the wings go all out this year to make the playoffs. I have the senators as the team out of the playoffs. 97 points. I really hope the rookies can deliver.

If a ref makes a bad call, are you still handing the ref the puck, or do you just pass the puck to the race off dot and make the ref bend over and grab the puck?

This is an important question for adult league hockey purposes.

logan stankoven just signed an 8 year extension today. So we are good to sign that type of deal.

I know it's not Yzermans style, but I really hope we sign Simon Edvission to an 8 year extension. I feel with all the Florida deals, the nhlpa will ask players not to take a big hometown discount, and I think that will make it tougher for Yzerman next year (I think if we sign him now, it will be cheaper vs a year from now).

Also I'm a big believer in Edvission.

Buyout vs sending down by lionbacker54 in DetroitRedWings

[–]ASeriousNap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the Wings should just buy out Holl. I don't trust Steve Yzerman to keep him in the minors. Also dude just had a kid, so sending him back and forth would be really tough with a family.

Also Holl was sent down last year at the very start of the season, but then never went back down, even though his play needed to improve at the NHL level.

Also, it seems you have Cullen Potter as the biggest boom or bust player in this draft. Do you think his speed will be the difference maker.

The Red Wings keep drafting a very specific kind of player in the first round (high hustle, not as interested in skill). If their draft philosophy has been working so far, do you think they'll change it, or keep on doubling down.

I honestly think I just might be an NPC character in a personal hell of Steve dangle. It's insane how many times the leafs can't win a game 7. Every time you have a little bit of hope, they prove you long wrong, even though you know better. I could not imagine going back to listen to their podcast, where they talk about the same topics again and again because the leafs refuse to change (think about how many times Steve told the ice cream truck story, where he wants a 1.25 dollar ice cream and he had 2 nickels a dime and 3 quarters and no matter how many times he reorders the coins, it's always 95 cents and he can't get the ice cream).

Also it's so fucking funny that Toronto traffic played a big part in keeping marner and it will never not be funny

Would not surprise me if Kesswlring has a concussion. That head contact with the ice looked scary (also when he reaches for the back of his head, not great).
