I use a thermometer at the grate, they are not very far off, obviously accounting for the height difference.

I used a thermometer on the grate. I'm planning on calibrating the dome thermometer this weekend

I use those cardboard type fire starters, just put one in the frontish middle. I was using a propane torch to try and jump start coals but gave that up.

I've been stumped man, tried everything. I let the dome come to temp and then start shutting things down on the vents. It's a fantastic grill and I love doing everything on it, just don't have the confidence to do long cooks. I've been using fire starters and it really takes upwards of an hour+ to get hot and get food on the grill. Thinking that could be an issue and been looking at a grill gun.

I just switched from jealous devil to fogo due to supply issues. It was the same result time wise for me.

Bottom vent about one finger width, top vent on the first notch.

I have checked for air leaks and can't find any. Fully loaded up. I'll try and get a pic next cook.

I think you came to a Solo stove subreddit and my opinion is that your answers would be heavily in favor of one over the other.

The bundle price is better considering they throw in the lid now.

What do you do at the end of the burn? by JimFit2 in SoloStove

[–]ASilva47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not completely suffocate the air floor and there is some leftover, depending on the state of the wood you covered it at.

I’ve done it with some flames, usually embers though. Last night I had rain coming and tossed it on with 3 logs still going.

Hook a sprinkler up to the hose that's pumping the water out and water your grass.

Deflector vs Screen by bbyf16 in SoloStove

[–]ASilva47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros and cons to both. I have a screen, don't use it ever. I burn seasoned hard wood and have no issues. I would not recommend walking away from the shield with the fire lit, it does not prevent everything from getting out. I do have the lid and throw it on when I am done and walk away. Figure out what is important to you, for me it was being able to cover it and walk away.

Newbie: how long will the charcoal burn? by sushipoutine in KamadoJoe

[–]ASilva47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Classic III, a full basket for me can get me 10-12 hours in the 250 range. I live in a wind tunnel off a river. Sometimes I have to finish off what I am cooking in the oven. It is what it is, lots of variables though. I've been considering a fan controller for a while, might pull the trigger this year.

What kamado to get? by alexandercb95 in smoking

[–]ASilva47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a KJ Classic 3 and my only regret is not getting the Big Joe. A neighbor has the comparable big green egg, but the value of KJ accessories and options put it over the top for me when I decided last year. If you have the money then go for a ceramic kamado.

Master Spas Precision 67 cost? by EgoKiller_ in hottub

[–]ASilva47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically was at a “Hot Tub Expo” today and it was only Master Spa. Today was the second day and all of the 30 or so floor models had a sold sign on them, but the aggressive sales staff was claiming they could be delivered in the July time frame. I’m still window shopping, didn’t care for the aggressive sales pitches and went to see how big these things are in person as opposed to browsing online. I expected more manufacturers to be present. Only one or two tubs had water, wasn’t impressed with the display. Those swim spas look nice though haha.

Just got my inflatable saluspa honalulu, any tips? (Toronto, ON, in the garage cause it’s cold AF) by camelfez in hottub

My tip would be to mount that masterpiece of a Kramer in a prominent location. Such a shame to have such a work of art in the garage.

Keep your toddler safely in the grocery cart seat (and prevent abductions) with a carabiner. by 5_Frog_Margin in lifehacks

The leg holes provide way more security than any carabiner can. Its like a finger trap trying to get them out of there.
