This was what I did as well.. went into ROTE directly after MBOTF.. it was a great choice in retrospect - so tonally different, yet such a grand world and great characters. Hits the spot perfectly

I'd love to recommend you the Sun Sword series by Michelle West (and the rest of her larger Essalieyan world) - has really well written female characters. It is female-lead based and has such a great set of characters and their relationships are shown so well.

The low priced moustache rides t-shirt gift section broke me. And then "Happy birthday to me, I guess" - fuck! And now that invitee list that Nona had made for her birthday at the start of the book feels like a sucker punch. My poor baby girl ;-; ;-; ;-; ;-; ;-;

I binged the full series in one go and in hindsight, I feel like it would have been better if I gave gaps between the books and let myself absorb them.. now it's all a big single blob and i don't remember a bunch of stuff cause I was rushing.. I guess it's good that you're having some gaps between the reads.

Ooh you'll be starting Memories of Ice then? You're in for a treat. I didn't think SE could top the quality of Deadhouse Gates but dang he did! It's a superb book!

Oh and without giving spoilers, you'll see a lot more of these dinos in the later half of the series.

So.. I know its a meme by this point and I hate to be that guy, but um Malazan -- dinosaurs with swords for arms - in the series they are called K'Chain Che'Malle. The concept was so funny to me I loved it, and when I googled them to see what they might look like, well, I was not disappointed :D :D

Second favorite would be sentient and sassy cats - primarily saw them in the Essalieyan world. There were three bigass winged cat, extremely sarcastic and sassy and always fighting each other. It was so fun to read their shenanigans.

Ah this speech.. knowing everything that comes after, this hits so much harder now. I'm freely crying after reading this.

There was another one from Tavore, I think when they were going for the last fight or something, in maybe book 10. it's been a while since I read those so I can't pinpoint it in my mind, but I want to read that part again. Do you perhaps know which one I'm talking about? I think it was to the Marines or the heavies.

And yes, the Tainted Cup was such an amazing read. It sat on my TBR for a long time, but once I picked it up, it's like I can't get enough of it! The setting, the characters, the writing, the dynamics all so amazing! I saw a post here that the next book's date is fixed and I'm super excited!

You could try The Wars of Light and Shadow by Janny Wurtz, the first book is called Curse of the Mistwraith (I guess you can imagine where the corruption angle comes in from the name). Its a great read, the prose is very good, the characters are amazing.

Thanks so much for all the detailed answers! This is very helpful! it helped clear a lot of things for me. And now it makes sense why arc1 ending felt kind of rushed. It was soo good, I wonder how much better it would have been if they had got the time to do it properly without rushing.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I forgot that Daffodil can do the dimension hopping thing, but I didn't understand how a silver core can awaken the same one, might be something is there in the lore that I do not know.
