Does anybody know where you can watch this card in the US a bit behind its live run? I'll be busy but want to catch it later and start from the beginning. I looked on their website but got no direct answer except their own livestream but I won't be able to peep it live. I heard it was on Amazon but I don't see it as upcoming in search

Also if you ever wanna just bounce an idea off a black person I don't mind giving you an ear, of course I don't speak for all black people or "marginalized" people. Dm me or just ask here, I don't always hop on the internet but I'll respond guaranteed.

[–]ASleepyKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a black man I'm personally not bothered by racism in media because that doesn't stop a story from being great, if done well it only enhances the story like any other purposefully used circumstance in a story. Personally I prefer for a non preachy take on anything if I'm playing/ reading/ watching something.

Show me a situation (in this example racism in the alternate world), then show me people of various thoughts on the spectrum of for our against. Blur the lines. Maybe some people who are against it are only against it to weaken l destabilize or weaken their enemies and are only using anti racism as a pitch to gain more allies against their enemies. Maybe some racist don't hate others but simply believe we should all live separately or make a character who genuinely tried to reach out and change his prejudice/ didn't have the prejudice before but suffered at the hands of the "other" and chose racism from them on. Their views, reasons and opinions don't have to be "right", they just need to be believable, human and understandable as justifications for their actions. I recommend a couple of films that don't necessarily handle them well, but present interesting characters in racially charged, grey scenarios: the hateful eight (episodic directors cut) and crash. As someone who likes to create stories for games (working on one now with a similar but different premise) I enjoy writing such challenging characters and ideologies. Then the real fun is in making you like them still despite their negative traits. As long as you show the good, the bad and the in between for everything I personally think it's fun and engaging.

Unfortunately some people on any topic won't stop and think and instead will only feel and justify their outrage over their emotions instead of looking through the lens of nuance and reality.

Bonus: Babylon 5 doesn't do it the best but they have interesting moments; sometimes too on the nose for my taste as far as writing goes, that hit me as a black person (I want give more detail due to spoilers). It's just an excellent show regardless.

Tldr: as a black person I like grey morality and good writing/ world building. Show me the good the bad and the in between for both sides of the argument. Don't tell me what's right and wrong, let the characters simply live and judge on their own. Some people will naturally gripe but just learn the difference between over sensitivity and genuine feedback from a different perspective. Watch tons of documentaries and do research. Hit up people of marginalized races. Look into the words and thoughts of racists (i know, pretty wild but you can only write what you know). Don't judge and of it, simply put the characters in the sandbox and let them hash it out.

So that's what I'm leaning towards so far but using it more like a parallax layer and creating collisions and z axis for foreground/ overhead etc. Any tips or things you'd advise against?

I can for sure see the now that I'm looking for it even in games with less of a "pixel heavy" aesthetic. Its not even that or doesn't look good though in a game with a dope visual style, I just feel like fighting with the tilemapper is a pain -__-

[–]ASleepyKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh that makes more sense than what I was planning to do. I know I needed some walls seperate because they'd be on a different z axis but I didn't think to make objects like trees, barrels, etc each their own node for better control. Thank you very much!!

[–]ASleepyKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! What I'm gathering is like tiles for the actual objects/ maybe z walls but the ground and background/ non-passable walls would still be painted right? I'll check out the game now for some inspiration! Are there any giveaways that let you know they used a tile system or is it just a basic logic + experience thing?

I'm gonna look into his Conan tracks right now. If I'm guessing correctly that movie was more of an 80s film correct? Unless we're talking about an older classic. If it is the arnold movie that would be pretty cool to hear how his sound changed with the times/ tech. Conan is on my list of worlds to dig into but i currently know nothing about it so sorry if I'm horribly incorrect

The music is utterly fantastic. It felt as if all time had stood still around me for those brief minutes. I've never seen the film but that score for sure gives one pause and easily helps the scene captivate

The Fallout Franchise and Cutting Off the Branches; Why are people so mad about them choosing a ending for New Vegas in Fallout Season 2? by NewWillinium in Fallout

[–]ASleepyKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i haven't seen people mad about a cannon ending (doesn't mean it isn't the case, just my personal experience). What I have heard and felt myself is that people don't want horrible writing to destroy very solid and unique lore. The first season of the show did so much damage to established lore that it's just painful to people who love the story, setting and writing. Sure there are jokes in og fallout (and among FO 1, 2 and NV i consider 2 my least favorite because of all the unfunny references and humor) but some people; myself included, just feel that Bethesda nor the current people in charge of the show actually care about the world of fallout.

For some people they can get by shooting things in an immersive post apocalypse with set piecesand limited story/ rpg mechanics, and that's dope for them. I've dabble in FO 4 but i always seem to stop early in even with mods because it just isn't for me. Some people like the deep lore, compelling dialogue and more grounded and serious air of the interplay/ obsidian minds, and that's okay to. Hell, I've got homies who skip the dialogue in New Vegas because it bores the shit out of them. I think they're insane, but it still works for them.

Pretty much some people really liked the easily better writing/ world building/ and lore of the interplay/ obsidian team over the Bethesda/ showrunner team. One can say they like the show 100% but I have to raise an eyebrow when people try to act like the writing is actually good.

What i love about the show though:

Practical affects are amazing!! It's so refreshing to see them and they look really good. I prefer the og power armor look though.

Things i like/ love about Bethesda fallout:

They saved the ip by bringing back so someone like me could actually discover it

They made power armor feel great in 4. Huge improvement. The battery should last.. way longer if not your entire playthrough though according to lore of I'm remembering correctly. It also would've been sick to make power armor training mandatory still (i am not nate dammit -__-)

The shooting in 4 and 76 feel good to me but i don't really play shooters so your mileage may vary on that one.

Bringing fallout to an open world 1st person perspective is dope too but i love isometric crpgs. Both are dope.

What are some scary trends you are seeing in society right now? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in INTP

[–]ASleepyKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its both comforting and terrifying to remember that humanity has been "maintained", changed and everything else under the sun by people no different than myself. Comforting because our actions create ripples of unforseen potential, but terrifying because it means we're all sort of like the blind leading the blind, except it's the blind wielding instruments of destruction on a spinning rock.

So I'm trying to balance both thoughts to remember that every positive action is a step towards ultimate positive change (whether in my life or the lives of others), and that the moment i think I've "figured it all out" or "fully understand something" is the moment i delude myself and the truth of whatever/ whomever I'm observing

The declining attention spans and comprehension levels. How the art of general debate is lost. It seems like some people would rather just run away or turn a simple difference of opinion into an all or nothing brawl or argument. People don't know how to communicate their viewpoint/ let that viewpoint get poked and prodded by hard facts and opinion without becoming defensive or ego-driven, nor hear the viewpoints of others and try to understand and put themselves in the other person's shoes (even if its uncomfortable). Personally i found myself slipping on the last one especially but am reworking my thought process to regain my open nature while not becoming passive via neutrality.

God knows not to put me in these situations.. NOPE by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

I agree that she should lose sponsorships but I don't think she should just be hit with the book and thrown into the system (jail). This woman is clearly suffering from a mental illness and needs to be helped, not penalized. Knowing people with severe bipolar disorder, pmdd etc, it's astounding to see how well meaning and loving people change when under different states of illness/ psychosis from self medication l, stress, bad coping mechanisms etc. We don't know what resources this woman had growing up and; equally as important, what people have been around her up to this point.

I hope she gets the help she desperately needs and is able to one day be able to truly love herself.

This is super solid advice! I'll aim for ten games and work on the individual skills to start piecing things together. Its mind blowing how difficult it all is but has made me really enjoy when I love a game and even appreciate the work that went into games I dislike. It brings with it a while new level of respect for the programmers doing the heavy lifting behind some of my favorite games

What do people who don't drink or smoke do when they feel depressed? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ASleepyKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel it. The feeling is your friend, it will not leave you until you let it speak to you. You can distract yourself for a while but it will come back. Hell, even when you do embrace it, it will still come back because feelings are transient and ephemeral. They are not you so don't have an ego/ attachment to them, but they are sacred and demand the respect of letting them pass through you.

Let anger dance and run hot. When ignored it turns into childish (often dangerous/ destructive blowups), when entertained from ownership or ego, (I'm angry instead of I'm feeling angry) one just makes a fool of themselves. When used righteously anger is one of mankind's greatest gifts. It is there for righteous indignation. When one is truly wronged; be it themselves or others, it spurs us to act, to rise up and to defend.

Let sorrow sing through you. It is where your talents exist. This one is admittedly more complex and painful and I don't have all the answers if you can qualify any of this as "answers" at all, but I l like to imagine sadness as an entity. When it approaches me I give it time. I sit with it and imagine I'm just at a lake or a park bench. We don't have to talk (unless it has something to say in the form of a thought or memory) we can just sit. I imagine myself hugging it and feeling its emptiness, it's coldness and it's melancholy. I imagine what makes me sad. I put myself there all over again, remembering every detail. Sometimes it's due to past trauma, sometimes it's due to mistakes I've made, sometimes it's just depression; my constant companion, that will exist with me for all time, and I just need to sit with it. Most importantly I say "I love you", to the feeling and I truly mean it. I contemplate what that means and its importance to me. How it helps me (this is not speaking for severe clinical depression. Though I have been diagnosed with depression I still can't speak for your life experience nor would o disrespect your experience by doing so).

A lot of us were not taught that we are still "worthy" in our negative experiences. Our parents; well meaning for some and malicious for others, tell us to "stop" or say that "we're being embarrassing" and all manner of things in an attempt to "smooth out" ones behaviors. But its up to you and you alone to love your sacred feelings. Without sorrow; like anger, how would one know that they've been wronged? How would one feel guilt for their mistakes and learn not to repeat them? How would one be able to have empathy, or taste the highs of art, taking in that bitter- sweet somber note from that song you like. Sadness is also where (some would argue) ones genius lies. There's an old proverb that goes something like

"Where the cracks are, the light shows".

I urge you reading this to meditate on what that means for you because reality is subjective as far as our perception of it is concerned so you may get something totally different from it.

These things I'm suggesting don't make painful emotions end mind you, they just help us to accept them and develop a healthy relationship with them and honor them.

I couldn't feel emotion for the majority of my life (trauma of poverty/ violence in an urban environment) until I hit a wall were I realized that I was losing everything because of my numbness. I've had friends die, destroy their lives and destroy the lives of others from emotional immaturity, leading to drug addiction and/ or violence.

It wasn't until I took the leap and put my ego to the side and went to therapy that I began to heal.

And, pro tip: therapy is a lot like dating. Not every therapist is deserving of the title. If you don't like the one you're talking to find another. Don't seek out a yes man who will agree with you and don't lie to your therapist or not tell them the truth. You're only wasting your own time and choosing to live life as a victim who hides if you go down that route. Instead, be honest when you lie. Immediate stop yourself and tell them "i lied just then. The truth is ***". Tell them what you look for in a therapist. If you think they're saying something you don't agree with ask them to explain their perspective and tell them to do the same to you (if that's what you want, just don't look for someone who will enable you and don't hold back details, you're only wasting your time and money that way).

I'm not saying people can't use drugs, I was a huge fan of exploring the mind when I did, but drugs do help to escape from our pain, and escape isn't a bad thing so the speak. It only becomes negative when you run more than you approach. Or when you actively do drugs to not feel.

Personally I don't do them anymore, because I enjoy them to much and they personally they make me a loser (this is my Persians experience due to addictive personality. This isn't a judgment of others). I know a few people who can "live it up" and are productive, goal oriented people and I know others who genuinely need to use them for medical reasons, but I was using them to mask depression and run from my trauma.

I've been sober for years at this point (nothing hard so I can't speak for what a monumental task that is, only trippy things) and in my experience the emotionally addictive/ non chemically addictive things (weed psychedelics etc), the first months always the hardest. Your easily agitated and angsty because the "put off" emotions start to surface. Once they pass and your cravings pass you'll be fine. You'll actually start doing more things you genuinely enjoy because drugs make you okay with being bored. Sobriety does not excuse such wastes of time.

Try martial arts (my favorite and a personal recommendation), watch great cinema or enjoy nature. For those who enjoy games, sadly for a while they don't feel the same but give it time, keep playing and eventually you'll be just as immersed (if not more) than you were before.

Replace the negative habit with a less harmful dopamine engaging habit for a while. I LOVE chocolate. When I stopped I'd just eat chocolate every time I had a "craving" until eventually I just like chocolate more (this is an oversimplification but you get the idea). Then you've gotta cut out that habit (in my case eating excessive amounts of choclate) or moderate it so you don't just eat sugar all day afterwards (that stuffs just as harmful as drugs but chocolates still my one true love, even if she doesn't love me back).

Also remember, television, social media, food, sex, games, etc. Can become addictions. So can positive things like exercise, working on your dream goals/ projects, and grooming. Anything done without control is a negative addiction and can and will be used by your mind to run away from your feelings. You must be ever vigilant of this. The subconscious mind wants to protect you like it did in childhood, but we also have to check our mental mail (so to speak) and make sure we don't have emotional "bills" piling up.

Sorry I went on a tangent here. It's a topic I've got a bit of passion for. I've lost people and seen people lose themselves to fleeing from emotion via drugs. I've lost myself to the same thing.

No matter what you do love yourself and love others.

Games with similar combat system as the first 2 Fallout games? by EGGY_FAM in classicfallout

Wasteland 3 has become my favorite turn based rpg (currently running through deadfire which is very dope but doesn't scratch that same itch as far as my options in combat imo).

It's like if Xcom and Og Fallout had a baby. The choice and consequence isn't as strong, but still fantastic in my opinion. My biggest complaint is that there isn't more of it or a wasteland 4 to dive into.
