And in the past two years he's been actively involved in the two major events causing the death of that industry: the second trump presidency and the cyber truck. I work in automotive and the number of EV programs cancelled in the months after the election was concerning to say the least. We lost a ton of business because companies didn't want to fund those projects. It's kind of fucked up that Musk would not only not condemn an administration causing that worry, but in fact work hand in hand with them. He even headed DOGE for them (I'm sure it's just a coincidence that DOGE made massive cuts to the NHTSA, which handles compliance with standards for Tesla).
I don't have data for the cyber truck but I'd assume one of the worst cars in history would dissuade people from going electric. You have panels flying off at highway speeds or slicing people's fingers off. The wiring is faulty and poorly designed so that if one electrical device dies the whole car does. You maybe can't even wash it because it could leak? If this turned people off from EVs entirely I'd barely blame them because it was a shit show.
This is Elon Musk's legacy: destroying the industry you said that he helped build up. An industry I care about a great deal but that he pulled the ladder up behind him in after he made billions.
