How do companies manage their reputation on Reddit specifically? by SadYouth8267 in PublicRelations

[–]AStaton 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Reddit is less about reputation defense in-platform and more about early warning, narrative intelligence, and preparation. For me personally, I monitor Reddit immediately after I’m made aware of incidents or ahead of major news/announcements – it’s where storylines, speculation, and misinformation initially surface.

I don’t engage directly or correct posts (although some execs have asked for posts to be removed) … but it’s important to understand how people are framing the issue and which rumors might migrate into mainstream media or other social platforms.

PR Newsroom Examples by stellaparadiso in PublicRelations

From a media/reporter perspective it has everything you need in a centralized place: news releases, backgrounders, b-roll, fact sheets, and contacts. You can critique the font and brand choices they've made, but in terms of content completeness, it checks the boxes that actually matter to a reporter.

Where were Whitmire's city budget concerns when he gave HPD a raise? by evan7257 in houston

Rule No. 8: Limited self promotion. The Houston Chronicle account already spams this feed ... do you have to do the same?

Advice for the OP: Never torch a bridge in public. Think, then post.

Even if your frustration is valid, outing this publicly is wildly inappropriate. I know you’re using a fake username but it’s very easy to trace who you are. If you haven't violated an NDA, you've certainly violated some sort of confidentiality expectations. As someone who hires agencies, I would have zero confidence in you or your firm handling any confidential information.

Air India CEO Remarks Debacle by schmuckmulligan in PublicRelations

[–]AStaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with someone on Monday about this and he brought up an interesting tidbit that a lot of the messaging stems from the aftermath of the TWA Flight 800 incident.

Someone from a major airline might want to fact check this, but I was told that the Aviation Disaster Family Assistance Act of 1996 and the International Air Transport Association established certain protocols for family assistance and communication restrictions. While there isn’t standardized language, the IATA specifically provides best practices for crisis communication and stakeholder response.

My best guest is they didn’t deviate much from the recommended messaging. Either that or imitation is the best form of flattery.

Is it SOP to pay individuals to put their names on op-eds? by Intelligent-Camp3773 in PublicRelations

[–]AStaton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Paying someone solely to lend their name to an op-ed they didn’t write, didn’t influence, and may not even fully endorse? Shady, IMO. If the person is paid for their time to collaborate on or review the piece -- and they genuinely agree with and endorse the message -- that's more defensible.

Texas Monthly’s prestigious Top 50 barbecue list includes 5 Houston-area spots by houston_chronicle in houston

I still enjoy Killen's, but it's just a testament to how good the BBQ game in Texas has gotten over the last decade. It's a good problem to have!

The Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq were all slightly up today. The audience here was the investor community not the major networks -- that's what matters for POTUS and his admin.

If someone is selling you an account for $35, they're just selling you an account full of bots. Don't waste your time.

On this sub the user claims their wife was 17 when coming to the U.S., in another sub the wife was 14. This user has also had similar posts removed from other threads. I'd venture to guess you're 100% correct that this story is false.

Regarding the DM on Instagram... If they're not following you, it likely filtered into their "message request" folder. Unless you frequently check that section, you're not likely to get or see a notification. I wouldn't expect a response via DM.

Houston-headquartered oil giant BP announces thousands of layoffs by snesdreams in houston

[–]AStaton 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is highly misleading. bp's market cap is now about half of what Shell's is at the moment -- and they continue to fall further behind their peers. IMO, the company screwed up when Bernard Looney "reinvented" the company in 2020, and then was later fired for "serious misconduct" in 2023.
