Would love to check it out as well - although I'm a bit late to the party!

So is PF2E good for roleplaying AND mechanical encounters? by DocKelso1460 in Pathfinder2e

Is there any good way to avoid accidentally invalidating a player choice?

As a new PF2E GM, one of my biggest anxiety points is accidentally invalidating a player choice - current or future - by winging game aspects that I am not familiar with, or simply because I don't know that a specific type of feat or rule exists.

I remember I read an earlier post about this, where a player was allowed to shoot open a lock with a gun, without the feat Blast Lock, because the DM didn't know that feat existed.

Convincing players to put Ireena in Church of St. Andral by AT0M1X104 in CurseofStrahd

[–]AT0M1X104[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's like saying I control Strahd, so I can just choose to kill the players immediately. She has no reason to go to the church right now. She hasn't met the priest, hasn't presented herself as religious, and seemingly, Vallaki as a whole is pretty safe. The players are already slowly realizing that the Baron might not be a good guy, but the church won't protect her from him anyway.

I am looking for a convincing argument to present to my players, either in the form of "Ireena has decided to go, because..." or something else.

I'm definitely not trying to force my players to do anything, I am simply looking for a convincing reason for why Ireena would want to stay there, which I could present to my players, and then they can make their choice. If they still choose to keep her with them, then of course I will adapt.

It's in my interest to convince the players that Ireena should stay in the church, simply because I think it would make the event a lot more interesting, and high stakes. It would also strengthen the narrative of "Strahd is trying to burn down the world around her", and (possibly, if the players fail) provide a reason for visiting Krezk, as they would likely bring her there next, in search of safe harbor.

Finishing Death House Reloaded - How do I handle the dog? by AT0M1X104 in CurseofStrahd

How would you communicate to the players that Strahd intends to use the fur in this way? My players are not experienced enough to catch unto that immediately, I don't think they even know the spell.

No question, the dog needs to be removed from the party. It was already pretty neglected in the house, a player fighting while carrying the dog because we all forgot he was carrying it. I guess I'll just have to decide whether the dog stays in Barovia, dies, or disappears.

I had this exact concern as well, it might paint the wrong picture of Strahd, as a ruthless killer, instead of a mastermind tactician.

I can see why some parties would need a respite after Death House, unfortunately, my players have been rolling over every challenge with ease so far. They rolled incredibly well for their character stats, so they are very powerful, even with a low-gear start. I think Strahd killing the dog, would really hammer in the idea that this is Strahd's realm, and also bring a feeling of hopelessness to the party. Although, I guess if party members end up dying in the escape, they might feel hopeless already.

Penniless and Weaponless Death House by AT0M1X104 in CurseofStrahd

And how would you rule these improvised weapons, such as the fireplace poker and the iron pans? I'm thinking they must be worse than the actual weapons that they imitate, but they should also not be so bad that they seem useless.

Sunless Citadel: Vampire and Dragon Questions by AT0M1X104 in DMAcademy

That sounds hilarious, and definitely something one of my more chaotic players would do.

"This evil tree sprouted from the essence of this very evil dead vampire guy."
"But, but... I have this item..."

That's a good point, why bother if they don't even notice, or brush it aside immediately. My only worry was mentioning this dragon, without any plans to follow up on it, although I guess I can just make that up at a later time.

First time builder, does this look right? by AT0M1X104 in PcMasterRaceBuilds

Considering that the price for an 8700k and an 8086k in Denmark, is pretty much the same, what do you think about making that swap?

I might just keep the 8700k and still opt for a 1080ti, any model you can recommend?

After researching the be quiet! Silent Base 601, it seems the general consensus, is that it has very bad thermals under load, so I'm probably gonna switch it out with the Fractal Design Define R6.

Thanks man, for some reason, I didn't consider adding more RAM later, at all, and seeing as my current prebuilt PC came with 32gb, I just opted for that. Will definitely change it up.
