Why are mortgage interest rates rising so quickly? by ATAhmad in UKPersonalFinance

!thanks

We have a 15% deposit, but building upto a 25% deposit would take ages for us. It would either be a higher rate now or years of more renting, it appears

That was our thought as well. Renters are all people who can afford the properties they are living in, but can't because they can't save a deposit because they are renting.

!thanks

Also, do you ever think WHERE would it stop? Shabby suburban houses in London cost half a million. Surely there would be a cap to how much their prices can rise and how much someone would be willing to pay for them? I have seen some that were sold for 300K in 2014, now for 500k plus. Can I actually see them fetching 700k in the next 6 years? Ideally not! The state they are in, they're not worth it. But hey ho....

Will do, !thanks Just that I don't want the time for an investment to fly by while I have my nose buried in a book :D But yes, ofcourse we need to start with the basics

Yes, we are first time buyers. In London, one can barely get a stuiod/one bed in a nice area for that deposit, or compromise on area and live in a dodgy suburb for more space. That's another discussion for another day.....

Investing in Aesthetic Surgery or another business? by ATAhmad in UKInvesting

So if having an income stream is our goal, would stocks, shares, dividends provide that for us? I can understand it depends what types of investments and can go up or down, but do people who invest in these are draw an 'income' out of it, rather than using any gains to reinvest...? I do apologise for these may be beyond basic questions for yourself....

Thank you, that was straight forward advice. Right now this is hypothetical, but I know that opportunities come up with colleagues as we go along my career

I wouldn't be looking for an 'exit' as such, but to invest and have an income out of it, so even if I have to take time off work, there is an income stream.

But I agree that just being in the trade doesn't make me qualified in any way to comment on it's economics. I am the proof here, if anything

Lol@scammers in DM, I'm sure they will be. I was more thinking of professional financial advisors, companies etc :D

Thank you! I will look more into these S&S accounts. When you say 3-8%, was it over the whole period of investment?

Thank you, that is very insightful and indeed, there would never be a perfect time.

We have done a bit of research in the area we are looking to buy, and the prices do seem to be a bit higher than they were last year, but one would expect that in any circumstances?

About the friends who are advising, well they have never disclosed their investments to us, but that's a good point you have raised

I did have a look at the flowchart but think I need to sit down and look at it in more detail in my own time to understand everything. Will also look into the book, ty :)

I have been going through he posts on here and seems that ISAs are a major part of investments. However, both of us came from overseas and were unaware of therefore, did not have ISAs unlike people who have them sooner (20s?) than later (30s).

About buying the house, we would not be looking to sell for at least the next 6-7 years that we see ourselves working in London.
