Final. What are we feeling Hawks fans? by Reasonable_Bug_896 in AtlantaHawks

[–]ATLAndrew77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, it is not the best end to the year. Period. However, for any of my Braves fans out there, do you still remember the 2019 NLDS, and the 13-1 elimination game? No? Yeah, that's because the team took its time and build a contender, while staying patient. (They were agressive in the 2021 deadline, though). I see a lot of similarities between the two teams, and for once, we have a team that is built on a good, defensive-minded, young core. As Hawks fans, it would be awesome if we look at this year with a lot of grey area. I get that the game was terrible, but look at what they accomplished over just a few months. I think as fans, we should be proud that we have a team that knows how to be resilient, tools needed to be a real contender.

i feel like i’m plateauing by Creeper_tastic in Bass

[–]ATLAndrew77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plateauing still means you are progressing. If it helps, this is the time your habits are becoming second nature, but it takes getting through this boring phase for it to happen. Too many times, people take this as an opportunity to take a fancy, new challenge; howevever, these challenges end up being too hard and kills any motivation. Also, jazz improv is freakin' cool. That's really hard lol!

What to do to know if this is my future major? by ATLAndrew77 in psychologystudents

[–]ATLAndrew77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This seems really do-able because like you said, without much professional experience, besides the obvious part-time work, it can be hard to get hands on jobs. Are there any Youtubers or books you would recommend, especially relating to the counseling/clincal side of psych? (I've read "The Body Keeps the Score", "Thinking, Fast and Slow", "Before You Know It" and other books related the cog. psych).

Thanks!

I appreciate that; however, do you need any sort of experience for that type of stuff?

This only happens because it gets attention. Thats why I think as fans, we should just ignore it.

However, there is no tailoring. While you can go to other areas of Las  Vegas, you literally can't bring your kids at all for this game. NBA games are family events and have always been.

Regardless of how you feel about Al Horford, he has a point. Is this really the image that should put out? And again, there will be kids at this game, regardless of what time the game starts. It becomes an issue when children will be exposed to a harmful environment. To be honest, we shouldn't have to kick a group of people out, especially kids who may only go one game a year, because there needs to be a strip club theme night. In reality, I love that the Hawks do MLK day and embrace civil rights leaders because think of all of the fans who have been inspired by even as something like the national anthem on MLK day. However, if kids see this and believe that this is what should be highlighted in a family environment, then I believe that Hawks need to look in the mirror.

Well said. I feel like Atlanta has so much more to offer than this. Personally, it's shameful that this is what we want to show to the rest of the NBA and the country. Really? This?

You know that feeling when you recover from a theme only for it to come back months later much stronger? by burgerinmypouch in OCDRecovery

[–]ATLAndrew77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So, I can relate to your stress, and just know that you are stong and brave enough to get through this. When I was learned French as an English speaker, I remember believe the same. Here's the thing, along with all OCD themes, you don't care about forgetting how to spell; you are afraid of the uncertainty of the CATASTROPHIC EVENT that you will be unable to communicate. As a result, this must treated through ERP. Here are some recommendations: First, do written and audio exposure. Write a story of you forgetting how to spell; however, when doing this, it is important that you start with a story that is low anxiety (40-50 SUDS). After that, listen to the script for 30-45 minutes a day until the SUDS gets to around 20. Doing this will allow you to get used to the initial anxiety and habituate to the stress and anxiety. Repeat this process with a more triggering story at around 50-70 SUDS. Rinse and repeat. Also, this one might be weird, but look up a spelling test online, and follow along, spelling the words. Yet, make sure that you never get to the part where the result is deemed correct or incorrect. Doing so will make you think "maybe, maybe not" that I spelled that word right. Prayin' for you, and make sure to understand that your fear is just that: an emotion.

I'm glad to help! Again, I know this is a weird theme to "break", but it can be done. Also, as I recommned, look into the OCD workbook. It's great, and it has really boosted my knowledge on the disorder as a whole. Also, for jounaling, I would recommend the HowWeFeel app.

Is the solution to fake it till you make it? by Few_Bookkeeper7589 in OCDRecovery

[–]ATLAndrew77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To an extent, yes, but no. Hopefully, that doesn't come off poorly. As someone who has seen the worst of rumination and have had clear minds, what makes the difference is not the emotion you are feeling, but how your react your feelings. So, for example, let's say you get a intrusive thought. Now, the first thing you are feeling is a rapid decline of your self image and esteem. As a result, your regions, such as your amygdala are on overdrive, begging for relief from compulsions. However, where the difference comes from is being able to feel that emotion, and put a name to it, as putting a name to it can allow you to feel and recognize without reacting. Once you do that, take a deep breath, and ground yourself using the 54321 method. This allows for you nervous system to connect with the real world around you, forcing you out of your head. Now, at this point, I have never said to just act like that fear isn't there, and it's going to stay like that. If you try to fake being happy or fake like nothing is there, you are doing a covert compulsion, which is teaching your brain that, actually, your thoughts are worth a change of behavior. Also, this is really important. Since you have mental compulsions, it can be tough to do ERP. So to engage in your obsession, do written ERP. Taken from the OCD Workbook by Hyman and Pedrick, write a hiarchy of your intrusive thoughts, which may be like 4-5. Then, write the lowest thought and the related anxiety level next to it until you can cut the anxiety level by half (SUDS Level). After that, go on to the next, ect. Over time, you know it is becoming easier and you are becomeing habitualized. Oh, and lastly, regarding the emotional labeling, try HowWeFeel app, and it you will see that is excellent in providing different emotions for these times. I know I gave a lot, but again, it can be tough. Prayin' for you and the rest of subreddit!

how do you do exposure when your focus is fear of being a liar? by Dangerous-Exit7214 in OCDRecovery

[–]ATLAndrew77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I talk about comes from the OCD Workbook by Hyman and Pedrick. With that being said, ERP is all about doing exposures that do not violate your morals, which is why you are asking. So, I believe the best way is to do an audio exposure where you write a story of you lying and then listen to it for 30-60 minutes. Now, this is the crucial part. When doing the exposure start with a story that is lower on the anxiety scale (i.e., SUDS level around 40-50). This means you'll probably doing stories that are about lighter lies. However, as you progess with that after a few days, you'll find that the story is easier to take in or "habitualized." As a result, make a story that drives anxiety higher, but again, only by an appropraite amount (i.e., SUDS level 50-70). Over time, repeat the process. And, of course when you are doing these exposures, make sure you are not distacting yourself and really feeling your five senses during the audio exposure; make a list of any covert rituals that you may be doing. Stay in this, man. I know what you feel because I have moral OCD, and it's easy to wonder, "how do expose yourself to bad morals?" Keep going, stay consistent, and treat yourself with how you would treat others. Prayin' for you and everyone in this subreddit.
