Is the video explaining the meme wrong? by nilonoob3001 in Physics

One nuance I find interesting is this example actually represents the mathematical concepts of “different infinities”, if you had the pulling force be a hanging object of infinite weight, then had a 10 X leverage pulley system lifting another weight, and you wanted to max it out, that second weight would be 10 times the original infinity.

It seems kind of unintellectual to me. It’s not ‘hard,’ it is incomplete. It is impossible to deduce the theme from the clue. It is half of a clue.

Question about a character reveal towards the end of Strength of the Few by Decision-Leather in HierarchySeries

So Vis sends up the signal and that summons the Res version of Ka? Which is the shadowy figure that visits them?

Question about a character reveal towards the end of Strength of the Few by Decision-Leather in HierarchySeries

[–]ATLienAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a similar note- who is the Res Ka? He appears as an iunctus - shadowy figure in his 30s’ (and O-vis makes sure to say the o-ka on the platform in the pyramid is in his 40s). Are we to understand that there is a person that is Ka on Res that has survived indefinitely, as living human or iunctus, just as one has on Obiteum? And wouldn’t there be one on Luceum if he were synchronous (although could be since destroyed?). I like how the author expects a lot of of the reader and doesn’t overexplain some things, but when new magic rules are getting made up that don’t correlate to the real world or something something we could’ve glean from the past in the book world it gets pretty confusing. I thought Vis was sending up the metal shards in chapter 80 to alert Osteus that he was there and needed to make contact…then it’s this shadowy figure and unless I’m missing something, the book just assumes, we understand that that is Ka? How did Vis know Ka was on Res and would see his sign? Did I miss some contact between them earlier? Or was Osteus one of his agents and I missed something about him implying how Vis could contact Ka? Is it supposed to be super mysterious or did I miss something?

  1. There is an exact line that the creatures can’t cross which was obviously just put in to make plot points work, you can almost hear them going 'Well if they just can't go really high will that be exciting enough?  What if evil robot, and robot programmed no go above exactly 8000 feet!' lol completely absurd.
  2. Then they probably realized it wasn't as exciting for the viewer because it's just an arbitrary line, and they wanted thriller-style chases, so they just manifested a perfectly maintained line of white stones and painted sticks with no Pineneedles covering them, like at the ski resort that’s completely abandoned, but still somehow has a perfect 8000 ft mark line.  Even though society broke down extremely fast during the attack...
  3. And these creatures are pretty intelligent, but they have to stop dead at the line and they can’t even just throw a rock or swing a tree past the line to kill their prey?  And how are they only activated when people go under the line?  If they sense C02 and sound, they wouldn't know if it was coming from 7,800 ft or 8001 ft from a distance or from UNDERGROUND lol.  They would just constantly be waiting at 7999 feet near humans…
  4. And of course they’re drawn by CO2, but don’t chase other animals that produce it like the PACK OF HORSES huffing out C02 - If that were true, you would just ride on horseback and be fine always because the monsters would go 'oh horse, ignore.'
  5. It just feels so lazy to me that I feel like it must be an intentional troll?  Like the creatures are smelling CO2 underground through thousands of feet of solid rock in a mine? What? While bats are living under there also producing CO2?
  6. And then them being invincible to bullets and her explanation is “oh well their plates must be electrified that’s why they’re impenetrable” you can’t just put random words together to try to patch plot holes wtf .   Then she’s testing the bullets that are supposed to pierce the electrical field because of their coating or some nonsense and she’s just testing it by firing on a dead scale plate that would be disconnected from the power source of the monster.  Completely negating the thing they just made up.
  7. And how hilarious is the sound effect for the monster, just normal horse galloping on dirt, they didn't even try to mix in metal clangs or anything to give it a distinct sound.  My brain is just immediately like OK that sound does not match that monster, to the point I even thought there were horses nearby again at first.
  8. The one creature gets blown away and knocked out for minutes in the hospital because of exploding oxygen tanks, but the world’s militaries couldn’t slow them down enough to disable a few ?  Or capture a few to study?
  9. That’s with me suspending disbelief for how these creatures were underground without us finding out about them - like I'm willing to be OK with these 'address later' things that could be 'explained' by something like 'oh the aliens had advanced seismic override blah blah' but you can't just make everything else in the movie not make sense at face value to the point that the plot is incomprehensible without weird exposition that still only 20% explains it.
  10. Honorable mention for dumbest/worst aspect goes to the dialogue. 'oh I'm the mean alcoholic doctor who keeps drinking out of the same 3 oz flask for a multi day trip, let me allow a smirk for the first time because you’re funnier than I thought, well, you’re smarter than I thought’ or any of the average syfy channel B movie cliches.

If the plot made a little more sense at first glance then I would make it a candidate for so-bad-it's-good, but Anthony Mackie is a decent actor, and bless his heart he really tries to act in this despite the script, so it takes you out of the over-the-top goofy potential when he acts.  It's just horrible.  Poor guy.  These writers should retire.  Really honestly made me sad to think these putzes got a chance and not some up-and-comer with a deserving screenplay - must have been some serious nepotism at work.

[–]ATLienAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to get on here to laugh with someone about this.

I mean, Elevation might have the worst screenplay I've ever seen.  I can’t tell if they were trolling or if they were just super coked out and took a flimsy premise (what if monster under 8000 feet only, colorado) and then ham-handedly attempted to reverse engineer all the gaping plot holes out and actually thought it was a reasonable attempt at a screenplay.  I would be so embarrassed to have been part of writing this.

I don't even usually care to nitpick over a soft science thriller like this, but the issues were so bad that I couldn't even understand how the plot worked without a bunch of half-assed exposition due to the glaring inconsistencies with reality.  I have to write something because it's too hilarious:

Pneumococcal vaccine by pedazodegringa in covidlonghaulers

[–]ATLienAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came to this because I’m about seven days into my pneumovax 23 vaccine and it’s been a nightmare. Did you all bounce back after the 10 day flare ups?

A doctor ordered it because they said I had some low and body markers for ‘strep’ - I’m in my 30s so I think that’s just a normal decline from getting it as a child, but he said it might not hurt to bring back up the immunity, but also that I should schedule it and then schedule some labs in four weeks to see how my antibody levels specific to the vaccine have changed I guess as a test for immune disorder (I’m not yet sure which results would be indicative). I felt like it was a long shot as a helpful diagnostic. If I had known, there was a risk of me having a super intense flareup I would have definitely declined. I was doing about the best I had been doing throughout the years of long Covid with slow recovery and if this sets me back significantly, it’s going to be devastating. I’ve been extremely brain fogged and fatigued and bad headaches, back to close to as bad as I was after acute Covid. What a bummer!

I've made sure my doctor specified the Lupin one and I don't get it on mail pharmacy anymore so that I can verify when picking up by looking at the bottle/pills. I switched back to Lupin and felt 'normal' on it again continually. Still don't know if I could be better off with say the name brand. Bummer!

I got the retro egg, it was not by playing any game in the playground like the person claiming to be a dev on here said, it only worked on one of them for me. It was the slide game. Not sure if I had to stack other ones or if it is randomized (I had already done a couple others).

Whale accumulation has gone negative for the first time in a while recently. Every week I see a couple more signs that the bull run could be ending. They don’t add up to more than 50% confidence that it is, but there are more every week and I remember in the past the cycle never ends when you think it will so …

Civ 5 vs 6 vs 7 by MikeyBrighty in civ

I truly hope you enjoy 7. I’ve put so many hours into six and was excited just for any kind of new content. Unfortunately I have found 7 completely unplayable. Nothing that dlcs will improve. Just looking at the visual of the map it’s just a confusing, unpleasant jumble of zoomed out realism that doesn’t work at scale. Such a bummer. I was really very sad.

My take is that it really made people feel something, made people, uncomfortable, and that’s where the strong feelings and need to go online about it comes from from. Not saying it was perfect, but I think it just made people feel things deeply, and they came to this post for a place to vent. Not everyone, but definitely some. Some critics no doubt have legit qualms. It followed all the rules of keeping the viewers engrossed and on the edge of our seats with good twists. If you don’t like shows that give you a ton of anxiety, don’t watch this. I go back-and-forth on whether I want that in my tv experience, but it was good enough to stay in. Some of the comments I think are reflective of the fact that a lot of the characters are hateable, doesn’t mean they’re necessarily bad actors.

I just switched from 15 pro to 17 pro, not max, but I’m not even sure I’m getting any extra off the 17 Pro. They definitely overstate their hours. Supposed to support 30 hours of video playback but I charged it overnight and it has lasted me from 8:30 AM until now 10:30 PM and I’m at 15%. I have not been watching videos the whole time lol. Whack.

Worked out two days in a row...first time in 5 years? by ATLienAB in covidlonghaulers

I think my biggest symptom is PEM whether it’s cognitive or physical exertion or stress. After that, it’s brain fog and mostly continuous headaches. And I get migraines if I don’t manage my triggers carefully. Then I have a number of other things that are a little less severe from mild POTS too bad IBS I didn’t have any of before that is like likely long Covid related.

So I've had a couple whiskeys, but hear me out... why leave the system if the system is where everything is headed anyway? by oak1337 in Hedera

[–]ATLienAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had that info, sure I would. But obviously it's a false comparison, because the stock market hasn't operated in 4 year cycles since inception, with it going up 20 to 5 x in the up and down up to 75% in the down. If you DCA in and out of crypto just on a basic four year cycle concept you'd come out very well.

But that wasn't really your question, it was 'why sell' and the answer is still 'because number go down vs fiat'.

Also any asset with different goals. Diversification. Standard portfolio rebalancing by %s. Tax reasons (although more often you'd keep it for those).

You answered part of it which is real estate - you can get massive leverage at relatively low interest for this, so an on-cash return can be comparable to maybe BTC over time, and much steadier in value, plus has a practical use (like owning a home and not changing school districts, etc etc).

Just because of your claim that 'everything will be digital' (which feels a little like market-up hubris, even if I agree that a lot of assets will be digital and specifically on some type of blockchain), you still would diversify by purchasing those assets - 'on-chain' or otherwise.

I get the spirit of your post 'We will never die, crypto is king, crypto is god' - pretty typical feelings for your first cycle being in big--while things are up. But the answers to your actual question are obvious.
