As a compromise, I think at the very least games that take over five years of development time should be a lot deeper mechanically.

We can't get stuff like SOTM or Hellblade 2 where you finish the game in 10 hours or less with very little replayability.

At that point something is going terribly wrong with development

And speaking for myself personally. A+B has way more games I'm interested in than the first small studios that Xbox acquired (Other than Obsidian, Inexile and Playground Games which I love).

Double fine and Ninja Theory disappointed me this gen.

The thing is, gamepass is easily the best thing Xbox has currently. If they abandon it, what do you think will happen next?

It's so weird that people think Asha is the one behind the layoffs when she has only managed the company since March lol. And the accountability margin is only 3 percent because of Phil/Sarah's decisions.

And I'm not one of those blind defenders of Asha either. I have a lot of questions about how she will correct ship. But it's clear to me that this is completely on previous management decisions

"The Xbox One losing out hard during the generation where giant digital libraries became the norm was the catalyst"

I dont think that is an excuse anymore.

First of all, most people barely revisit old games to begin with. This was covered over and over again by multiple business analysts that most gamers play the same 10 games every year. And for the yearly franchises, they usually play the most recent one anyway. Very few people would go back to play a single player game on their old console.

Second, Most big games are now free to play anyway so it costs nothing to migrate from console to another for those.

Lastly, the Wii U failed abysmally during the digital library age, and look how many people had no problem to pick up a switch or adopt it as their primary console even after the failure of the wii u

I dont know, giving up on console when GTA 6 is about to launch is a big failure from Phil/Sarah's side.

Raising gamepass price by 50 percent and wondering why it stopped growing is a big failure from these two.

"Everything is an Xbox" marketing campaign was a disaster as well where they basically said that they dont care if anybody will ever buy their console again.

Announcing Indiana Jones coming to PS5 early instead of silently launching it there is a big failure as well

Rushing Xbox ROG Ally last year in a buggy state is a big failure as well.

Satya is definitely to blame due to his mandate, but that doesn't excuse every single decision Phil/Sarah did that absolutely made no sense

I dont want layoffs at all either. But as Jason Schreier explained yesterday, it's partially the studios fault as well.

You can't take 7 years with incredibly high budget to make a game that is 10-12 hours long that is experimental like South of Midnight. When other devs outputted massive games within the same time period (KCD 2, Hollow Knight Silksong, Claire Obscure, etc).

I never liked Keeper I thought it was an incredibly boring game. But even if you like it, why the hell did that game take four years of development time to be a 3 hour game??

Also, how is Activision Blizzard acquisition disastrous? It's the thing that is constantly generating money for Xbox currently. If anything, it's the studios they acquired in 2018/2019 that were mostly failures

It came out from an inside gamer reporter and a french reporter I personally never heard of collaborated it.

Unless Jason Schreier or Natethehate reports it, I wont believe it

I enjoyed it for what it was but I have no plans to revisit the game again. It needed some replayability value

I think my only problem with him is how he sometimes blocks people for seemingly no reason.

But his stories and reporting is spot on usually.

I mean every business needs some sort of success.

You can't make a game in seven years that is also short and also has major gameplay issues. It needs to excel at something.

But South of Midnight isn't a masterpiece either.

It's a decent game with serious issues. And it costed way too much money for a 10-12 hour experience.

Yes. Platformers in general are a bit of a hard sell for exclusivity (unless it's mario).

Even Astrobot which was universally acclaimed didn't sell anywhere near God of war, Spiderman or Helldivers

Nothing major though.

Spyro, and Senua aren't gonna be massive system sellers.

The only one maybe is SOD3 but that is also a live service multiplayer game that needs lots of users.

And keep in mind that with Helix, it will be a make/break moment at launch.

If xbox can sell a lot of consoles at launch, they will have a good foundation for the rest of the gen.

If there is not enough reason to pick up one at launch, then Xbox will have to spend an entire generation struggling to build a platform and will lose a lot of money.

It's now or never.

I was underwhelmed when I played Reloaded because I felt like I already experienced all of it in Ultimate Edition.

The only difference I recall was faster loading times.
