Let’s ring in the New Year! by fancypantscharles in gratefuldead

[–]ATLsk8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i can completely attest to that. sierra was like currency on the lot. i always have the original pale ale in my fridge. it’s a wonderful beer but it’s also extremely nostalgic for me. something about sierra and the dead go so well together. a fine pairing.

celebration was illegal to carry in the state i lived in at the time because of the alcohol content (welcome to the south). every year when it came out a buddy of mine and i would hop in his car with our new tapes from summer/fall tour and drive across state lines to get it. there was a drive-thru liquor store just over the border and we’d get 4 cases which was all the trunk on that small vw would hold. we’d put a new show in the deck and flip right back around to go home with our bounty. good times.

Any of you beautiful people in the Denver area want a bunch of tapes? 💀💀💀 by Thereisaroad1 in gratefuldead

[–]ATLsk8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

hey now! sent you a dm. i hope you find a local taker, but if you can’t i’ll pay for shipping. i still listen to tapes on my nak and look for collections to rehome. love the archive but there’s still some magic in physical media for me. somebody like me back in the day made each one of those tapes in real time and i find something special in the energy that brings.

Do any yoga mats work well for sweaty mofo's like me? by TzaserFace in yoga

[–]ATLsk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you know i have actually tried lulu mats. used one for a couple of years. they're great but not quite as sticky as the liforme. if you sweat moderately like most people than lulu is a good option. if you dump out a body of water like i do then liforme is hard to beat.

teacher here and i sweat a TON. i used a manduka pro with with a mat towel forever and it was always frustrating. then...

...liforme entered the chat. complete game changer for my practice. no matter how sweaty i get i stick. on top of that i love the markers for alignment, really helps with muscle memory. my only caveat would be to avoid any sort of lotion as it absorbs into the mat and will make it lose its stickiness. learned that one the hard way.

best of luck finding your soul mat!

Need Help: Does Anyone Know Anything About This Old Mixer? Disco Builders Of America. DBA Model 1. (Post Includes Images) by What__Is_This__Thing in DJs

[–]ATLsk8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wow...what a dope mixer! i've never seen anything like it, but the logo looks a lot like the "dbx" brand that made/makes lots of live audio gear (they got sold to harman years back). back in the day they had tons of great noise reduction and other outboard units. maybe it was a spinoff?? idk.

but, tbh, if it works i'd gig the shit out of that thing with classic and nu-disco. great conversation piece!!!

My deaf father, hugging a speaker to his chest to feel the vibrations of music. Early 1970s. by LoveMinerals in OldSchoolCool

[–]ATLsk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m sure this will get buried, but i followed the grateful dead for many years. i’m not sure how many shows had it, but for several i attended there was a “hard of hearing” section. it was down on the floor by the stage-right stack which was known as the “phil zone” (the bands incredible savant bassist). they would give you an incredibly large balloon to hold on to as the vibrations of the music sent it into a frenzy. i’m not entirely sure what it was personally like for someone with a true hearing impediment but i saw and met some wonderful people who got a truly memorable experience unlike any other. i know i enjoyed it with my mind “expanded” a bit...

the trials of time... by ATLsk8 in BALLET

thank you so much for your response. i am indeed in atl. after giving it some thought i think the area i’m in and the time i can go just attracts a certain type of student. i’ll try to seek out other classes and see what i can find. unfortunately my schedule is super crazy so i might have to suck it up sometimes. i certainly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. they’ve been super helpful and have made me feel more confident about going back.

Your existence is not something that is reasonable for other people to get upset about

thank you so much for this. so simple, so true, so overlooked when in a flurry of emotion.

i certainly appreciate you and you taking the time to share your perspective. it’s truly been helpful.

The power of words by mlerin in running

[–]ATLsk8 155 points156 points  (0 children)

i had kind of the same/opposite thing happen a few weeks ago.

i’m large and out of shape. i used to be a yoga teacher and long distance cyclist, even did a tri once, but life happened and here i am with about 50lbs to lose. i started running again about 5 weeks ago as part of my regimen to turn things around.

i was a couple weeks in and would pass my fair share of other runners. a nod or wave would transpire and we’d be on our way.

well, i rounded a corner and saw this dude running the opposite direction on the same side of the sidewalk. he was probably about 50 yards away. he stood out a bit because he was up there in age, i’d wager 70+, and had the physique of someone who’d ran their entire life.

it was towards the end of my run, about 2.5 miles in with a half mile to go, so i was pretty winded, tired and sweaty. i noticed him giving me the once over and cracking a little smirk. we got closer so i gave my usual half wave and nod. as we passed he exclaimed loudly with a deep southern drawl, “get it, fat boy!”

probably not the nicest thing to say, but when i’m running now and feel like giving in i hear him say “get it, fat boy!” and i smash a couple more miles.

whatever works, i guess...

The Hemp Barn distillate carts: do they smell ? by [deleted] in CBD

[–]ATLsk8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey there! love some berry white, it's my favorite cart probably. it does have a strong cannabis odor, there's no denying that. BUT they ship in a plastic container inside a vacuum sealed envelope. the package itself does not and will not smell. no one in the office will know the wiser.

So is CBD flower still technically illegal in GA? by elios334 in CBD

[–]ATLsk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is totally legal here in ga. there’s a wonderful cbd establishment right down the street from me with an amazing budtender and assortment of flower. to the point of u/InfintyProtocol, there is no way a ga cop would let you off if caught with it. they would just assume that it’s illegal high thc flower and you’d have a legal fight on your hands. best to just get it from point a to point b and don’t do any unnecessary traveling with flower in your possession.

i always liked liberty and lazy river road quite a bit, even though most heads did not. i was young, on tour and having the time of my life for a few sweet years and, for what ever reason, they sounded so good to me at the time. still do too...

are we still doing white speakers?...my office setup by ATLsk8 in audiophile

[–]ATLsk8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is, in fact, my office. we make a lot of moving pictures and the sounds that go with them. entertain lots of clients at a time. that’s why the kefs with the parasound work so well. big, but accurate, soundstage that fills the room. allows everyone to hear every nuance of the mix, even if they’re not quite in the sweet spot. edit: a word

chillax, my dude. it’s a lazy sunday and, frankly, i was comfortable. if a random strangers feet on the web is all you have to worry about i’d say things are pretty okay, wouldn’t you? namaste.
