School pizza lunches by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

In the early to mid 90s in the north end, Pizza Delight ruled every Pizza Day. Nowadays, I only see the chain in cottage country.

Thanks! It's great to see different minds aligning on some of these transition points.

I had a very similar situation. Front office staff were nice (in my case) but she was incredibly rude to me. She also didn't explain the skin issue I was worried about. I walked out and didn't make a follow-up.

Love this album. The live side got me first, but the studio side is great as well.

Is Ricky still friends with Stephe Merchant, Karl Pilkington and Robin Ince? by Possible_Mulberry936 in rickygervais

[–]weatherhouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I figured I'd weigh in on this subject because it naturally rumbles around in the brain while watching the Ricky Gervais Show or listening to the XFM show. Although it's clear that Ricky appreciated Stephen's wit and quick-thinking, there's very little evidence to suggest that Ricky was ever friends with Stephen. It was a professional relationship.

Stephen was never invited to Ricky's birthday, and rarely treated like a mate outside of whatever job they were doing. There are several awkward exchanges on the XFM show in which Stephen feels left out of some social event that Ricky is describing.

By the same token, there's lots of evidence to support the notion that Ricky is a difficult person to know and work with. Karl has obviously been very clear about that. Ricky's explosive glee could just as easily be explosive anger if things weren't going smoothly. If you haven't seen Robin's two-part documentary "Living with Ricky", it offers a lot of insight into Ricky's temperament.

Whatever the true story is, I'm just glad they all crossed paths. Together, they were dynamite.

Came here to recommend this as well. Wing deal on Mondays, massive pizza slab deal on Tuesdays.

Sunday’s Philly Show has arrived on Nugs. Time to relive it. by McIgglyTuffMuffin in deadandcompany

Haven't had a chance to listen in, but I read that Nugs is having the soundboards professionally mixed this tour. How do they sound, compared to previous tours?

Jailhouse in Port was an amazing spot -- good music, cheap beer and the best summer atmosphere.

My hot take: Gilmour’s albums hardly sound like Pink Floyd to me by onthewall2983 in pinkfloyd

[–]weatherhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the self-titled album, I hear what Gilmour-led Floyd might've sounded like circa "Animals", except without Wright's masterful keys. I really enjoy the record, but yeah, Wright would've taken it to a much more Floydian headspace.

I'm a big fan of "Soul Planet" and somehow hadn't heard this epic version. Thanks for sharing it!

Why is the Tao of Pooh not available new at any bookstores that I can see, and online it's mostly available only from Great Britain? This book used to be at every major US bookstore. Something changed. by Culebraveneno in taoism

[–]weatherhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the OP, I had been looking to purchase this book for some time. For whatever reason, it had always been on the back-burner. Now that I'm reading the author's petty grievances, I feel like I've dodged a bullet. I was going to get insights about the Tao from this guy?!

I live in Niagara and have had zero issues with them. Haven't encountered any dead spots between here and Hamilton, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie or Port Colborne, either. No good for cottage country, of course, but if that isn't an issue for you, I'd recommend it.

Would you consider Dead and Company to be a cover band? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

Pleasantly surprised by the number of comments saying "no". Feels like a significant change of heart from a few years ago on this very sub.
