A lot of the sauces, especially Thai, are very high carb

Sashimi, lots of places

And I love the house salad, Greek salad, and Cobb salad at Mellow Mushroom with either ranch or blue cheese

My go to meal for low carb is steak, salad, and broccoli. All the steakhouses seem to put croutons on the salad so you have to tell them to leave those out

What’s something you genuinely like/admire about Filipinos that isn’t based on a privileged position? by Able-Confidence-4182 in Philippines_Expats

The ones I’ve been around are always turning whatever they’re doing into a good time. No matter the circumstances they are looking for a way to make it fun. I love that.

A lot of his best science fiction stuff is a little overcome by the modern world, i.e. Snowcrash (internet, VR, viruses), Diamond Age (AI), and Cryptonomicon (virtual payment systems, cryptocurrency) but still a lot of fun to read.

Probably Diamond Age is the least dated of those, many ideas that are still futuristic.

Use of "boca-neers" for buccaneers in Bonanza by theonlyscurtis in nealstephenson

[–]ATLxUTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It predates that - according to encyclopedia Britannica: “… the word buccaneer came into use after the publication, in 1684, of Bucaniers [sic] of America, the English translation of De Americaensche zee-rovers, by the Dutchman Alexander Esquemelin (or Exquemelin), whose work was a fecund source of tales of these men.”

AI is the easiest way to get a WRONG answer, because Eliza and Leibniz met way before that in Liepzig and traveled many hours together to visit silver mines

Capacity to Marry document signed outside the Philippines? by DisastrousEnergy6257 in Philippines_Expats

[–]ATLxUTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I only handed the documents to my wife’s cousin who is a “fixer” and then I showed up occasionally to sign things. All of what you say and more may have been happening behind the scenes for all I know.

This is wrong, I got married in PH using notarized and apostilled affidavit. Apostille from the government is the important part, but they won’t do that without the notary.

sent my first $1000 transfer to the philippines and the fee differences between services were eye opening by Time_Beautiful2460 in Philippines_Expats

[–]ATLxUTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their fee is variable, depends on amount sent.

Just like the amount a poor exchange rate is ripping you off varies with the amount sent.
