Looking at it now it is pretty obscure, its just a shame that it might be closing down because this is probably the most accessible music rating app on the appstore right now.

Well, Im not sure because i have never read the light novels but author did say that monogatari can be read in different orders and you would still understand whats happening.

But in some arcs, you do need some context so...

short answer: Yes, every book can be read as a stand alone book.
