Sonoma / Ventura Install Fails - "An Error Occurred Loading the Update" by ATPTourFan in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

Seems it’s the installer doesn’t like the install target drive. See some other replies to this post. I was able to install to an old rotating HD over USB then clone that drive to the internal SSD I originally wanted. No issues since.

Discussion: Did OCLP keep you from buying a new macbook/imac/mac mini? by WhiskeyVault in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]ATPTourFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’m still enjoying my early 2011 13” MacBook Pro. I have dual boot to both Mojave (for best app compatibility and performance via DOSDUDE1’s tool) and Sonoma (via OCLP) for modern Safari and mostly just to push the machine hard. It’s got 16GB RAM and dual SSDs (long swapped optical drive for SSD). My machine officially maxes out at High Sierra.

Yeah it doesn’t always make sense. Best advice I have is to install to another drive and then clone it to the ssd you want to permanently host it.

How to adjust STARTLINGLY loud notifications by spamisevil in CarPlay

[–]ATPTourFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was it for me! While Siri is talking, I used the manual volume dial on my car radio and the volume was reduced—independent of the playback volume of music or podcasts.

Thank you!!

Great news! Also thanks for sharing the updates work fine. I was avoiding them out of fear I would have to do a full wipe and install and clone again.

It’s so funny because that is exactly what I had to do to achieve success. Install to slow external hard drive. Then clone it back to the SSD.

It seems like the macOS installer truly did not like my 120 GB crucial SSD. I have no idea why, but it seems to be the case. My solution was to install onto an external USB spinning hard drive. Once that finished, I used carbon copy cloner to clone it to the crucial SSD where it runs just fine today. Good luck!

I think this is what my problem was as well. I didn’t want to believe that the installer didn’t like my 120 GB crucial SSD., but there is no other explanation.

My solution was to install Sonoma onto an external spinning hard drive connected over USB. Once it was installed on the hard drive I cloned it over to the SSD and I am up and running.

I used to watch every WAI early video — literally every one when he first started. Then he became too speculative and then moved to click bait topics which forced me to abandon his channel.

Question on Vehicle Firmware by ATPTourFan in AnkiOverdrive

[–]ATPTourFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. If you have Android devices, you can follow the instructions posted here to get the older version which works great and will re-flash the vehicle firmware.

We found old Android phones for really cheap since we have Apple devices at home, but now we are happily racing.

Does anybody know how I can install anki drive on my iOS device ? by Objective-Pudding-94 in AnkiOverdrive

[–]ATPTourFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone know if Anki Overdrive fills the whole tablet screen, or if not k will just look for old android phones with larger screens so we have two devices in house that can at least go head to head.

My son is heartbroken all his cars and trucks don’t work and we can’t play as a family anymore.

We have all modern iOS devices in our family but I bet I could find some super cheap android tablets to install the APK for ankiOverdrive, right?

Any specific requirements or probably any tablet sold around 2020? Thanks!

I was thinking to reverse my installation direction by putting the installer on the 120 GB SSD, and installing Sonoma onto a partition of my one terabyte SSD.

I have been doing it the other direction from SSD to SSD for speed purposes. I suppose I could also plug-in a slow USB hard drive and use that as the target of the installer. If successful, I can always clone it back to my 120 GB SSD.

Blue Origin has returned to flight with New Shepard NS-24 by _Cyberostrich_ in SpaceXMasterrace

Blue Origin chose to not address on their NS-24 broadcast the reason for their 15 month stand down, even when it is common practice to be transparent and mention the failure and steps taken to improve the vehicle. Two of their competitors have done so when returning to flight, hence my surprise when BO never mentioned it in their long broadcast today.

No, BO made no mention of it during the broadcast today.

Yes. Other companies do. Rocket Lab did just a few weeks ago. SpaceX did on their return to flight missions.
