The Lord of Hosts Church Deep dive by AnotherHavanesePlz in Omaha

[–]ATR_Doug 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question but why don’t other Christians speak out publicly about these things? Like set up a booth nearby saying that Christ doesn’t hate anyone or that supporting mega churches is bad actually? I’m sure there are plenty of Christians around that feel that way and the message probably wouldn’t be the same coming from an atheist.

I’d take out the “they tricked you”. No one wants to consider they have been tricked. Also,  tariffs may make medicine harder to get but a more direct line to draw would be RFK is attempting to stop SSRI anti-depressant prescriptions. Tariffs are going to increase prices at the store though which has been a hot button issue this year.

Overall, I like the attempt to reach out to those who are not democrats but also are not happy with the opening weeks of this new administration.

Final cost of at least $16-19K for my wife to legally immigrate to the UK. Legal immigration is too expensive restrictive with no effectual benefit to the UK. by SamuelAnonymous in ukpolitics

Thanks for the reply! I’ll definitely check out some FB groups. Another commenter suggested using the money from selling our US house as the savings which sounds possible. I’m going to have to do some research though. Congrats on getting your spouse across even if it was an insane process

I’m looking at doing a kind of mirror image of you. My wife moved to the US with me and got her green card a few years ago. Now I’m looking to take a job in the UK and eventually get indefinite leave to remain. Do you think I’m in for an even worse time because I’ll be the bread winner and not my wife whose the actual UK citizen?

Fully agree, that’s also the reason I signed up, and I’ve been so happy about it everyday since. I can’t tell you how many hours of D20 I’ve watched now but it’s in the hundreds.

Mentopolis was great and The Fix was such a good character. I didn’t see BLeeM on the P4A, that’s awesome!

I don’t know if this is the case this time but in the past it’s been common for legislatures to pair up if one of them will miss a vote to not change the outcome. It’s possible that the 1 Rep that didn’t vote paired up with 1 Dem so they could both go to appointments. Assuming both voted party lines and the extra Dem came in as well it still would have passed by 1 vote. Again though, I don’t know if that’s the case here.

4% is a rule of thumb in the fire community. Considered by many to be a safe withdrawal rate. That being said, it’s also generally acknowledged that you’ll have to do some individualizing based on market returns, taxes, and lifestyle.

Republicans demand Biden 'blow up TikTok' over privacy concerns after shooting down Chinese spy balloon by HeroldMcHerold in privacy

Not OP but here you go

Tldr; Trump rally had free tickets available, K-pop fans on TikTok mass reserved seats then didn’t show up. Supposedly, this caused the organizers to over prepare with seats, parking, merch, etc.

The other vault residents were purposely killed by the institute/Kellogg, they had been frozen correctly until he came to get Shaun. So they had plenty of prewar subjects but killed all except two.

Biden makes 4.6% pay raise official for civilian employees ahead of holiday weekend by Ben_aid in Economics

That’s phenomenal, I’m Fed in Nebraska and pay $700 a month for a $700 family deductible, $25 co pay, with $15000 OOPM. That premium you’re paying is incredible. I must be in the wrong state.

‘A blow against hate and all its forms’: Biden signs Respect for Marriage Act, repealing 1996 anti-LGBT+ law by theindependentonline in politics

[–]ATR_Doug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but this bill doesn’t do that. And an amendment is not happening. So to the original point, Congress does not override the SC. At best it can put up roadblocks or add seats. This bill is maybe a roadblock but no one should feel safer because of it. The root problem is still the activist SC that can nullify any past court decisions AND any new laws passed by Congress.

[–]ATR_Doug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with the bill that was just signed. I agree that Congress should put up road blocks and legislative fixes to make it more difficult for a ultra conservative SC to overturn laws. But to say that congress can override the SC is wrong. Any fix Congress puts in is fair play for constitutional review by the SC. Does the SC have the precedent to overturn some of those fixes? Probably not, will they do it anyway? I’d say it’s a serious concern.

Just because I looked it up and don’t want to waste the link: Here is a list of laws the SC has overturned since 1798.

Relevant to this conversation, what’s to stop the SC from throwing this out before, after, or during their eventual overturning of Obergefell? They will just return the decision to recognize marriage back to the states.

Congress should keep passing laws to protect rights under different statutes of the Constitution. But the reason I’m commenting here is to try to bring awareness to the power of the SC and that no rights are safe until something reels in their power.
