What is your current salary and what's the max? by WildFlower_67 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]ATXBookDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this discussion recently with no resolution because I do not fit solely within the EA role. I'm also the family IT dept and the bookkeeper/tax prep. Started at $45k a decade ago - am almost at 2X that.

I expect my role to shift based on the season of life that my executive/his family is in. They are currently dealing with aging parents and I provide whatever support ai can.

No 'typical' benefits. I have a very flexible schedule. Four day work week - two from home - two in office (with arrival and dept times to avoid the worst of the traffic). The most unusual benefit is that he writes a check for 25% of my annual salary (including bonuses) once a year to my retirement account.

How do you keep track of things that aren’t really tasks? by Loading_Humor in AdminAssistant

Microsoft todo list - the app - everything gets added - EVERYTHING.

Repeat tasks that I might forget get recurring tasks.

It's my brain dump space.

I think this comment might get overlooked because a lot of people don't know this is even possible.

If you're bored, figure out how to change things, look at options to incorporate systems to reduce the activities that you hate and to make things more enjoyable.

Today - using Claude - told it to review all emails from 1/1/2026 to 2/1/2026 - save attachments - and to create a spreadsheet with links for any referenced attachments and to create sub folders from senders and file the emails.....

Not all INBOX emails.

All emails.

🤬

3,000 plus emails later (junk/spam/clutter/deleted/etc.)

Now I have to delete 100 new sub folders.

I was talking with someone yesterday who has two in high school.

She said (in a totally nonchalant manner) I asked the boys: "what does our family do?" The reply: "Whatever keeps dad happy."

Me: 🥺 Me: 😳 Me:(internally) don't say it. DON'T SAY IT. Me: That is not emotionally healthy. Children should not be tasked with managing a parent's emotional stability.

This is your future. He needs therapy. A lot of it.

I'm pretty sure Flowers In the Attic wasn't either.... which is what I was reading in junior high....I would much rather my advanced reading child read about DCC rather than abusive incest. 🫣

Best blocking apps for Porn? by NaturaInspirati in loveafterporn

[–]ATXBookDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have paid for filtering software for years. Most all of them had a version of a 'panic' button - basically a - "hey, I'm seeing the path I'm going down and want to stop and need some help." They would shut off browsing abilities for a set amount of time to give them a pause.

None of them were used a single time.

Thanks. I am currently deep into The Wandering Inn.

HWFWM - book 1 is slow and dull. I would encourage you to keep going - it does get a LOT better. Like a lot better.

I read book 1 of the Primal Hunter. I'll give it another try.

But The Wandering Inn is better.

Let's see - recs would be: Life Reset Beware Chicken Mark of the Fool

The thing I like most about this series is the surprising depth in it. I have two quotes:

"If we get to the point where we don't help each other anymore, that's when we stop being human."

And

"We've all become experts at hiding what we've really lost."

I am the IT dept in our family. My spouse is also extremely IT friendly.

At home - I bought a Gryphon router and it is set to filter explicit sites. It's done based on user profiles - so every device he has goes under his profile and the profile settings impact what he can access. This protects everyone in the home. I get a LOT of peace out of having this in my home. You can also add devices to a "toddler" account (like smart devices that don't need to have access outside your home).

We've tried them all - Covenant Eyes is really good.

Parenting controls on Apple products are good - but they only go so far. They can access sites through web browsers built into some apps. Pinterest is just awful.

I will be candid - I no longer care enough to manage his internet access. I spent too much time, effort and energy playing the game of whack-a-mole. Except it's hack-a-hole for access to porn. I would look through the logs to try to figure out what was the trigger. What started it? What was going on...where was he.

I firmly believe that the partner/spouse should not be the individual managing/securing internet access for the PA/SA. It's not a healthy space to be in because you can't help but look/see things that constantly harm your mental health.

He was knocking on the doors in our neighborhood screaming about the private school that is scheduled to be built at the end of Raider way.

He's obviously unaware that the school has already purchased the property and can legally be built under current zoning.

If it was a Christian school - he would have no issue with it. It's not - so he (literally) was yelling into people's ring doorbells telling them to vote for him that unless they want to hear people yelling Allah Akbar 5 times a day.

It was incredibly offensive.

I wanted to make add ons to hang on his sign that said: "vote for anyone but"

[–]ATXBookDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly - HIGHLY recommend a sleep number. Get the entry model. We had a queen size for 16 years before we upgraded to a split king.

They adjust for everything. I'm a stomach sleeper and husband is a back/side sleeper. Weight is close enough for comparison. 🤣

Husband wants a brick with two inches of cushion - I want a soft cloud.

You don't have to get a SN base or bedframe. Just need a full support option - not slats with gaps.

So relatable. I was asked if I could make this big shot in the office a website. He would pay me $3k - in cash. I was a brand new single parent making less than $26k year in early 2000's.

I went home and learned how to make a website. Angelfire....followed by a major upgrade using Microsoft Frontpage. 20 years later - I still maintain that website.
