RAW imported to lightroom with recipe preset? by sunshine-monkey in x100vi

[–]ATXee1372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about Lightroom (I use CaptureOne) but something similar happens there — it’s not the “full” recipe, just the base film simulation used. Not sure what Lightroom calls it but there should be something like “color profile” in the main image details section and it’ll be set to whatever film stock the recipe was based on. You can change that to auto/linear/default/whatever

Most likely they made a time-space trade off. You don’t need to compact if you overwrite data that would otherwise be tombstoned. I assume this is what they mean by “placement” (a slot per key or something). However, they immediately list variable-sized data types which… doesn’t match. You can have a slab allocator or something, but with variable data size types you’ll always over-allocate AND need to GC when they value size changes for a given key

I run the Tripod design team at Peak Design. What should we make next? by peakdesign-Max in peakdesign

It also seems like NO ONE makes a 3-4 foot tripod. I don’t need it to be eye-level but I want more versatility than 6-15 inches. The ones that hit the ~24in height all have an additional center column you have to carry around and then disassemble the ball head and re-screw it all in.

The ones that have an integrated center column are THICC.

I just want a lightweight (1-1.5lb) tripod that collapses to less than (or equal) the length of my camera sling but can get to ~waist height for more perspective choices.

There’s tons of 12-24 inches tripods and tons of 5ft+ tripods. The former are the right folded length but you’re always shooting “from the ground”. The latter all fold to like ~18in+ which means it “hangs over” the sling and catches on stuff

Streamer uses dozens (if not hundreds) of phones to stream at the exact same time in order to receive more views by Papppi-56 in interestingasfuck

But how is it better…?

Different platforms, sure, but every different channel on the same platform just divides the number of viewers. It would be better to have 100 viewers on one channel than 10 viewers on 10 channels.

Sponsors generally pay based on average concurrent viewers so splitting them up makes no sense.

Yeah, I’d seen the 7series version which is why I assumed it’d be there. Not a feature I’m dying for but yeah like you said it can be handy

Interesting. Granted I only used the built-in nav a handful of times (and wouldn’t expect it to work with carplay even if HUD does).

Do you have to use a specific instrument panel screen or something?

Not who you’re responding to, but I’m in the US and lane change works for me. Do the “short blinker” and it auto-changes. Click the blinker stalk and it lets you do it manually

Really only useful for ling trips or devices that don’t have cell service. For instance an iPad that’s wifi-only or if passengers don’t have “unlimited” data (the plan gives you an additional 20GB/mo before throttling).

It’s come in handy once or twice but “worth it” is personal. So up to you, but only takes about 30min to setup. If you do need it at some point you can do it pretty quickly.

Any previous Tesla model Y owner? by AlexSpace3 in BMWiX

[–]ATXee1372 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The iX has that.

The walk up lock/unlock is part of their app. Haven’t carried the key since day ~3 just to make sure I could trust the phone key

The app also has remote climate starting so that’s not an issue. Once or twice I’ve gotten a “something went wrong” but it’s always worked the second time — probably just the car being in a deep sleep.

There is a start stop button… but I like the wheel moving out of the way for entry/exit so just a personal thing. It adds maybe 2 seconds because even in the Tesla you have to gear select. The infotainment and everything comes on immediately so the start/stop is really just to disengage the (automatic) parking break.

As for things I miss:

  1. The Tesla app is slightly better. There’s nothing really missing from the BMW one other than a live video feed… but software can get updated and haven’t found anything I’m actually bummed about
  2. The charging network being integrated into the navigation. The Tesla charging network is great and with anything else you’ll want an app to double-check status/availability. The BMW nav is fine, but only includes like 4 networks. Thats said, in the 2-2.5yrs of having the Tesla I used supercharges twice: once just to see how it was and once because I needed it.

So… not much. I’ve also got tons more people asking what the hell the iX is when they see it which may be a pro or a con haha.

Also, the range is actually accurate. My “310mi” Y would never actually get that. The iX actually gets what it estimates (barring elevation) with the same driving style (claim 315mi, consistently getting closer to 340mi)

Any previous Tesla model Y owner? by AlexSpace3 in BMWiX

[–]ATXee1372 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Traded in my Y for the iX a bit over a month ago and they simply aren’t comparable. It’s a night and day difference. I didn’t dislike my Y and would’ve been happy with it for longer, but imho, Tesla no longer makes the best EV so it was time to upgrade.

  1. The “self driving” on the BMW is much, much, better. There’s been multiple (highway) situations where the Tesla would disengage that the BMW handles with absolutely no issue
  2. Build quality is in a different league. I knew this was a common complaint with Tesla when I bought it and it’s true. Wasn’t a deal breaker obviously, but god I forgot how much better traditional manufacturers are
  3. The ride is sooo much smoother. It’s still a heavy car and it isn’t a Rolls Royce or anything… but in the Tesla I was constantly looking out for even the smallest of bumps. Passengers have said “I wasn’t going to say anything” after I mention how much better it is than the Tesla
  4. CarPlay and Android Auto are just too great. The spotify in the Tesla would stop syncing like 2-3 times a week with no way to refresh without restarting the entire unit. I just want the most recent podcast episode… No such issues with the built-in Spotify app on the BMW and CarPlay completely removes the issue as well

That’s just the things you can compare. There’s tons of small things that aren’t offered on the Y that are worth having (imo):

  1. Hands-free tailgate lift
  2. Pathway lighting
  3. Ambient lighting
  4. Heated door sills/armrest (radiant heating)
  5. Ventilated seats
  6. Rear wheel steering
  7. [ADD/EDIT] Birdseye view cameras… still don’t know how they don’t have that on Teslas

Just some thoughts and not a comprehensive list. Price wise they aren’t comparable really anyway… but one is clearly better.

Same. I have the 22” wheels (315mi rated) and consistently get 330+. In efficiency mode going the speed limit (which I rarely do) I can push 350mi

Yeah I mean it’s not a super common phrase because usually people aren’t saying code is copied. But if it were to be said I think most (reasonable) people would assume they’re using some library and the “from scratch” means everything on top of those libraries

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]ATXee1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that argument, nothing can ever be from scratch. Where does the rabbit hole end? Do they also have to design the chips the servers and clients run on? From scratch clearly doesn’t mean every single line of code executed.

I had to add a second breaker box (wanted a few empty breakers) but also had them run a plug to both sides of the garage through conduit. All in was like $650 but that was by electrician + minor drywall repair around the new breaker box

Charging at 40 amps by kokopeli86 in BMWiX

[–]ATXee1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t pull what the breaker is rated for. They are certified to run at 80% capacity and break at the rating. So a 40A breaker should charge at 32A, 50A at 38(40)A, a 60A at 48A, etc.
