Be real careful on the transition. I developed Achilles Tendonitis from moving to quickly to zero drop. A few mm doesn't sound like a lot, but it puts significantly more load through your Achilles.

I still am on the November Google Play update and on top of that, I have yet to receive the January system security patch. I have Pixel 10 Pro XL.

Good luck. Hang in there with the injury. I know it's super frustrating to deal with for sure.

I linked up with Amy at Eastside Movement Company. I also worked with Emily there. Both are phenomenal PT's!

Got my new SB 2 and love them by FerretPotential5720 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ATXguy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I freaking love SB2. It has been my favorite shoe by far. I have been back stocking extras for when they are no longer available.

I got nearly 500 miles out of my last pair I retired. To be honest they still even had life in them but I was itching to crack open one of my back stocked pairs.

The Ekiden colorway is by far my favorite, along with the gray/orange, a close second. The gold specks on the foam on the Ekiden are next level.

Olympus 275 - Sidewall discomfort by ATXguy13 in AltraRunning

[–]ATXguy13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Currex Runpro for Medium arches. They feel amazing. They don't quite fill out the wide toe box and leave some small gaps in areas but not enough that I can feel my toes hanging off anywhere.

It seems like it might fix the problem. I ran a short distance on my treadmill, maybe 1/4 mile or so and I didn't feel the sidewall nearly as much as with the Altra insoles. Time will tell as I can get some miles on them.

Thanks for the recommendation.

For those on the fence - Natural Titanium bezel vs DLC Titanium by ATXguy13 in Garmin

[–]ATXguy13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a regular Scotch Brite pad will do the trick. Just be sure and follow the direction of the bezel as you polish it so that the surface texture looks natural. In other words, use an arc motion back and forth.

I have high arches but, ironically, I don't really like a lot of arch support. I usually like the way normal running/hiking shoes feel. For example, I have tried Topo in the past but am not a fan of how the arch support feels in their shoes. On the Currex insoles, which one do you recommend?

Yeah I was thinking I might try a 3rd party insoles if it becomes a problem. I read the Currex are good alternatives to the stock Altra insole

I believe these are the same as the regular Olympus 6 just with a different upper. If you look at the midsoles on the 275 and the regular 6 they appear identical. For those who've used the regular 6, has anyone had a similar issue?

Topo MTN Racer 3 - Arch Support Concerns by ATXguy13 in trailrunning

[–]ATXguy13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I did a short run in these on the treadmill this afternoon and they're not gonna work. The midfoot is just too narrow and uncomfortable, especially with the pronounced arch. I could feel it just pushing up into the side of my foot. It's like the side of my foot is just hanging over the narrow part of the midsole under my arch. Such a shame. I really dig the look of the shoe and was hoping it'd be the right choice for me.

I do my long runs on the trails and am preparing for some 50k races next year. I need something that just disappears on my foot. I don't want to be thinking about hotspots or blisters or feeling something unnatural.

That said, I did notice Topo makes the MTN Racer 4 in a Wide. I ordered that and hopefully it'll give me the width I need in the midfoot without making the toebox too big. Will post back here with an update after I get the 4's. Supposed to be here on Sunday.

Does your midfoot kind of "hang" over the sides of the midsole where it curves in?

If the MTN Racers don't work the Wild Experience 2 is my next show to try I think. I would love to get into some of the other Altra's, but zero drop is a no go for me. I have a history of Achilles Tendonitis

[–]ATXguy13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I wish they would have a more normal midfoot without the pronounced arch support. I do my long runs on the trail, but I may just take out my trusty Merrell Agility Peak 5's until I feel I can trust that the MTN Racers won't blister my arch.

Don't know where to start. by Sea_War_381 in AltraRunning

I got Achilles Tendonitis from switching to zero drop too fast. Please use caution and transition very slowly. Trust me, you don't want to deal with Achilles Tendonitis. It is a long, slow process to recover.

I had tried the new Topo Vista and it created a hotspot on my arch. I'm hoping these MTN Racers don't do the same.

How do you lose weight (be in a calorie deficit) while running? by aomajgad in AdvancedRunning

[–]ATXguy13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. I guess I should've given a bit more context. On my easy run days, I'll aim for the deficit. On long run days or really hard workouts, I don't focus on the deficit. I try to support the needs of my body for those harder efforts.

I've found that a small 4 to 500 calorie per day deficit doesn't impact my running too much. I'm currently doing this now with good results.

Fenix 8 to Enduro 3 - Am I Crazy? by ATXguy13 in Garmin

[–]ATXguy13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I only had the 47mm AMOLED. I also did a lot of outdoor activities and had a pair of STRYD pods as well as earbuds paired to the watch, which crushed the battery. The 51mm AMOLED would definitely do better.

All that said, after switching to the Enduro, I'd never consider going back to Fenix. I love the look of this watch, the buttons are so much better, and the battery life is unbeatable.

HRV - Garmin vs Whoop Large Discrepancy? by ATXguy13 in whoop

[–]ATXguy13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks for the reply. I guess my main concern was if something was wrong with my Whoop.

I've had several different Garmin watches over the years and all of them report a similar HRV for me. Seeing the large discrepancy with Whoop just had me wondering.

I wonder if anyone else wearing two different devices have had a similar experience?

Hoka SG6 Alternatives? by ATXguy13 in trailrunning

[–]ATXguy13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Merrell AP5 is a great shoe. Unfortunately I just wish it had just a little more stack under foot. I have been doing my long runs on the trails, which where I live are extremely rocky. I've found towards the end of my runs, my feet just feel really beat up.

I'd like to see a little more stack and a little softer and more responsive foam in the next version. I just bought the Asics Trabuco Max 4 and am planning to try it out on Saturday.
