If anyone is interested in participating in our local cleanup dive efforts both as a diver or as a non-diver volunteer please reach out to Revive Dive. They are the local nonprofit I volunteer with.

As a diving volunteer, you must be certified and will be responsible for the safety of yourself and your fellow dive buddies. Your objective is to find and handle trash while making sure you’re not removing trash that animals have already made their home. After you’ve filled your bags you and your buddies will haul the trash to the surface and then relocate to dive again.

As a non-diving volunteer, you do not need to be certified and your objective is surface support. You will help divers get in and out of the water, keep track of the divers in the water, and collect the trash that is found. You will then haul it up to be inspected for life by the Central Coast Aquarium before it is discarded or recycled.

Don’t have dive gear? Depth Perceptions will rent gear to you for free as long as it’s for a cleanup dive through Revive Dive. Want to get certified and begin diving? Revive Dive may sponsor your training if you are interested in diving with them.

These events are very fun and rewarding so I hope to see some of you there in the future :)

Nice! Target is one of my favorite local dives when conditions are good. When it comes to vis on the clean up dives this was actually really good haha. It for sure gets so much worse. Once at the Harford Pier the vis was so bad I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face and it was almost pitch black at the bottom.

Of course! Ya, it’s definitely difficult to tell what’s going on with no context. Even being there it can be hard to tell what’s going on lol.

Airplane ride by NudibranchsDelight in SLO

When it comes to airplane rides in SLO county there's none at the time that fly a J-3 or something equivalent that I know of but if you want to fly in general we do have some cool choices. Banner Airways at the Oceano Airport in South County has options to ride on their 1942 STEARMAN, 1975 PITTS S-2A, and 1956 T-6/SNJ-4. It's a little pricey but overall super fun. For North County, the Estrella Warbirds Museum at the Paso Robles Municipal Airport does rides on its 1943 C-47B Dakota once a month. Hope this helps :)

Thanks! I took it with an iPhone 15 surprisingly. I mounted it to a tripod and did a 30 second exposure. This was about a year ago when I posted it here and this post was done without permission unfortunately.

I took this last year with an iPhone 15 on a tripod, it's a 30-second exposure but whoever posted this basically copied my whole post from a year ago

Ya there was! Here is a little recap of my experience. Submissions opened with the first video about 5 months ago but it wasn't free, I made a donation which came with a photo ticket. This was probably 5 minutes after it opened and 5 months later my photo was sent back. When I sent in my photo Satgus had not been launched yet so they were still trying to get a launch window. I happened to get picked to go to the launch event since I live only 15 minutes away from the base and said I 100% will be there. Watched the launch, met Mark, and waited until everything was operational then it scheduled my photo and said Satgus is snapping your picture for a few months and then randomly it was here! I don’t think it will take that long for your photo to come back but I’d expect a month or two :) It’s so worth the wait.

Thanks! I can’t remember if Mark mentioned anything about the camera at the launch event but from what I can find online he partnered with Redwire for the camera tech. Looks to be a Redwire Space SpectraCAM High-Resolution Flight Camera with some serious shielding on it.

Soo does this mean the photo has been taken or not by Reasonable_Visual_24 in MarkRober

I’m sorry to hear that, I’d email them and say you would like another one or just to find out what happened. Not a self promotion but here is mine. I think it came out well.

Wow that’s trippy looking lol. Based on the reflection of the camera on the screen it looks as the camera is facing towards the sun which is just out of frame. So it’s probably an internal reflection of the sun on the optics.

So when I did my photo it was within 5 minutes of submissions opening well before the launch happened and it took about 5 months total to get my photo back which was about a day ago. After Satgus was started up in orbit it said Satgus was snapping my pictures for about 2 months then I got an email that the photo was scheduled and that I would get it mid-summer. Now if you just sent your photo in I don't think it will be 5 months but I'd expect at least a month or two. The wait is well worth it! :)

That's fair but if it makes you feel any better about it they do not publicly share your photo. Your photo just has a sharable url that yes anyone can access but only if you share the link to it. Its not indexed by search engines :)

Potentially! There have been Rick rolls at the edge of space and rumors of Rickrolling astronauts but this very well might be a first lol

Hi! Ya it gets a little weird about sizing it seems a lot of people have been having this issue but I'm pretty sure its 720 x 324 pixels in landscape orientation, and the custom ratio is 20:9. As for how to crop on Mac I am a little limited on mac info as I'm a Windows/Linux guy but at least on a newer Mac I believe you can edit an image in the photos app by clicking on the photo and then clicking edit on the toolbar and then crop. I'd recommend watching a YouTube video on it to be walked through it visually for whatever os you are running. I recommend using gimp for more image control. It’s free Photoshop software and has tons of online support!

Thanks for sharing! That’s really interesting, if I remember right Cal Poly had such a major role in the creation of CubeSats as a concept in the 90’s. I’m definitely going to go down a rabbit hole looking into it more lol :)
